No charges if you don't use it. I only use my Halifax Clarity card when I am abroad - about 3 times a year. If you prefer to pay straight up then the next nearest thing is perhaps to use the card issuers mobile app and pay off the balance a couple of days after you use the card.

I already have two Barclaycard accounts, but as the Supercard is coming to an end, I need a card for use abroad, so I wanted to apply for this. I used the eligibility checker on the Barclaycard site and was declined. I telephoned Barclaycard and asked if I could change one of my existing cards and the operator told me that wasn't possible, but I could just apply for another card as you could have three. I told him I had been declined by the eligibility checker, so he went away and came back to say the rules had changed and you could now only have two cards. He suggested I pay off one account and close it and then apply for one of these, err, no thanks. So my other half has just applied for one and been accepted and added me as additional card holder. What a faff!

Has anyone who already has a Barclaycard Platinum managed to get this?

Interesting as I have a Nationwide VISa with no charge for purchases abroad but charges for cash. This seems a better card to have for going abroad

I have two Barclaycard platinum accounts.
Might have to see if I can get this after reading the news about the Supercard ending.

Thanks for the heads up on this, bit gutted as I've got used to using it, I'm away with it at the moment.

Thai banks charge all foreign cards between 150-200 baht every transaction so maybe Barclays don't charge fees but it doesn't stop foreign banks adding extras to your bill to pay

True but that is the same for the locals in that country.
We Brits are quite lucky to have a "free" banking system

Reading the terms and conditions on the link indicates no transaction fees for ATM withdrawals or purchases but there are still high interest charges until the debt is paid off. If this is the case the card comes no where near matching the likes of Nationwide.

Yes this card is only worthwhile if you pay the balance off in full every month
The point of this is no fees abroad

It's better to pay off in full within 56 days period, especially for withdrawals, otherwise no point of having it.

COLD - should be offerred with the standard card, to me just another rouse to get people into more debt but spreading over various cards as opposed to one. Yes peeps mere mortals sometimes lose track of these things.

I would agree to a certain extent, but for people who travel and want to get the best rate for their ££, this maybe ideal for them.. Im another Halifax Clarity card user and nothing has come close to over sea spending until now.. I would however need to read the fine print on rates and what exchange rate would be offered.

Pretty sure it's only one Barclaycard at a time.

This is a different card. Not sure on the rules for existing customers being able to apply for the card, probably worth checking with customer service before applying in case they have a policy rule which declines existing customers.

Maybe a stupid question but can't quite make out from the links
I've already got a barclaycard platinum, is this a different card i.e can I apply for it?

Might be worth calling them and as if they'll math the deal - maybe threaten to close the account?
Not sure if you can hold two of the same card albeit with different promotional offers

Question:
I currently have no credit cards as I prefer to pay for things straight up. This Summer I will be going travelling and require a 'currency / travel card'. I've looked at the benefits of all the major card companies and am close to deciding which one(s) to get. Should I now consider getting this card instead if currency exchanges are high to any currency from GBP £ and there are no interest, ATM, or chip and pin terminal fees? These benefits, plus no minimum topup as this is a credit card seems like a good deal to me! Also, do banks tend to charge if cards are unused for some months (I intend to use this for 2 months max)? Sorry for all the questions, I did try research myself but would like to get the opinion of those who use credit cards more frequently!

If you've never had a credit card you may not get the credit limit you're hoping for...
Having said that you can "load" the card by paying money onto it from you debit card and therefore increasing your available balance
I would definitely recommend this for travelling but obviously be vigilant at ATMs for anything suspicious
No charge for leaving the account dormant no

It's good that there is no interest on cash withdrawal abroad. However, another article by MSE re MasterCard v visa rates.
Depends if you want to make cash withdrawals abroad really
Halifax you start paying interest instantly
If not fussed about cash then Halifax MasterCard exchanges rates are usually slightly better

From MSE website => If you continue to apply now, you'll only get fee-free spending and cash withdrawals until August 2018. To get it until 2022 you'll need to apply from mid-morning on Wed 24 May – Barclaycard says it plans to launch the new deal at 9am and we’ll update this page when it has.
So, for everyone with itchy trigger fingers, it goes live tomorrow.
