Looks like the deal was posted a month or so ago but had been expired.
I'm no expert so wanting to see some opinions, very tempted to bite at this price.

Nice price. But that GPU? No thanks.

The RGB KB makes it 1060 speed.
Not a bad build but you could have gotten it from the 20% warehouse deal that ended this week for cheaper.
Worth checking PC Specialist for what they're charging on a similar spec.

it's a decent everyday laptop I'd get if I didn't order the alienware laptop which came on Hotukdeals the other day

You can have a laptop, or you can have a gaming pc. But not both together.

Do a little bit of research into the mobile 1070 and 1080 and you will realise how very wrong you are. By the way this deal is pretty rubbish if you are buying it as a gaming laptop, 1050 isn't that fantastic at this price.

Decent price. 17.3 inch is definitely on the larger side though - not easily mobile. I've got a 17 inch laptop and I mainly use it as a desktop.

Guess it all boils down to what games you intend to play, not everyone has the money to pay thousands for a top of the range system and not everyone needs one. I won't be using it just for gaming but its nice to have the power to play most games at a decent enough level.
I didn't really think this deal was rubbish, not outstanding but I spent a fair bit of time looking at other deals that had been on here the past and this stacked up fairly well imo and I prefer Asus to most other brands in this price bracket so it made sense to me.

I've researched it. £1700 minimum for a decent specced GTX 1070 laptop (if you are lucky with a deal)
£2200 for a GTX 1080 and more like £2500 for a decent spec, add a 4k screen and add another £1000 on top.
Top end Laptop gaming is quite simply horrendously overpriced for what you get for your money. Not to mention the very real issues with thermals that inevitably becomes an issue with them over time and the complete lack of an upgrade path.
It will never, ever come close to a desktop.

Not really. I game with a 290X which allows high frame rates at high/ultra and 1080p. The 290X is equal to a 970gtx, which is equal to mobile 1060. Saying a 1070 or 1080 is there he minimum needed is crazy. A 1050 will be enough for some at 1080p and a 1060 would almost be perfect.

hi guys can anyone point me in the right direction for a gaming laptop or desktop for a 10 year old?

For starting out, I'd go with something like this. ASUS is a good brand, it's a fairly good price, good hardware, spec should be more than enough, and comes with a couple of freebies too. As a starting point, this is what I would look at
Opening post
12 GB RAM
128 GB SSD + 1TB HDD
NVIDIA GTX 1050 4 GB Graphics
Full RGB Keyboard
Windows 10
The 15" is also available at £799 with 8gb of ram
