Your 1st comment and your WRONG. I have 3 Sony Android TVs and I installed Showbox/ Mobdro, Kodi etc... on all 3 of them. ALOT of Android apps work but they are not listed in the TVs play store so you have to side load them using esfile share and they work fine with update notifications.
Strange you say no itv catchup as I have just opened the app on my TV and its also on YouView as that's the point.
OP ignore westerner comment.

discomans comments are WRONG,there are only a handful of android tv apps, they are different from smartphone apps very few work, apps cannot be loaded from outside google play store so no mobdro or showbox etc. Sony say it is up to app developers to make tv apps, not Sony, they do not care.good example is ITV Scotland,no app so no catch up tv.only useful app is kodi.by all means buy a sony 4k tv picture is great, dont fall for android tv hype,it is a waste of money.i wish i had sent mine back when i had the chance, save yourself £2-300

OK so looks as if you are not up to speed on this but the good news is you can do things with your Sony that you thought you couldnt, so that should mprove your options and hopefully cheer you up about your purchase.

I've got this exact TV and can categorically state that this is indeed wrong - I've got all sorts of apps outside the store installed and all work fine! (the odd one benefits from a mouse/trackpad input but all are usable!)
The TV itself is great imo - good picture and the Android O/S works nicely! Only downside is the sound (obviously) but with a decent soundbar/soundbase it's great!
