Don't buy a fire tablet then? Or pay another tenner to have the ad free version.

I like the Fire tablets, they're loud, good screens, not laggy. However I don't like that they are covered in Amazon adverts/suggestions.

Because you'll only buy it if someone tells you this is a special price?
People shouldn't judge a good deal on how much 'off' it is but how much you're actually paying for something and is that something worth it.

Owww my eyes, 189ppi.
Only joking, my 8 inch Lenovo is the same and is fine for watching Netflix or Amazon etc. Good price I guess although why it has a huge amount of wasted space round the outside I don't know, makes it bigger than it needs to be.

Not for the uninitiated or the faint hearted. I found before add free versions were available at same price at Argos at same price Amazon was selling directly the one with ads .

Heat added. although I can't figure out why Amazon refuse to use 1080p screens in their tablets

Better performance as less work for the GPU, better battery life and it also allows the units to be sold at a more competitive price. For the slight difference you'd notice in image quality on a small screen and the fact that most people don't watch 1080p media on tablets, 720p is the better option

You can ask Amazon to remove the ads free of charge.

This is true, I've done it on 2 fires and a kindle.

The current position apparently is this is only possible if you subscribed with a non-promo device. Otherwise Amazon now say: "Amazon is able to offer Kindle e-reader and Fire tablet models at a subsidized price by delivering Special Offers and Sponsored Screensavers. If you originally purchased a Special Offers device, you will be charged a one-time payment to unsubscribe from this service. This amount will be charged to the 1-Click payment method on your account, but will not be debited from any Amazon.co.uk Gift Card amounts on your account."

How do these compare to an iPad mini 4?
CrispEditor to Gozer

errrm. slower. worse screen. not locked to iOS/iTunes (thats good or bad, depending on opinion). RAM is smaller - which means switching between apps will be slower, if the two dont fit into memory at the same time. Probably about same battery life. Better for watching videos. And can be rooted or upgraded with google playstore.
Also ipad is not expandable in memory, but certain variants of ipad have 4G mobile ($$$).
But much cheaper than ipad (unless you are looking at good or second hand deal). ipad has limited lifespan (possibly wont run iOS 11).
If you dont want absolutely the best and dont want to pay over the odds, i think these are great value (I dont have one). Paying 3-5x for something which you may not notice any difference is your decision.

Mainly the 2,058 x 1,536 display in the iPad, plus the decent A8 processor but you really have to pay a lot extra for the iPad.

Is this a good upgrade from a Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1

'Buy any 3 new tablets and save 20%' is slightly better, but roughly the same as 'buy two, get the third half-price'.
When would this be delivered, any times they are delivered before release date? Need before 7th really. Anyone had experience with this?

I've had a 7" fire hdx for 2 years now it's been brilliant. I wonder if they have a hdx version coming in this?

Why only 1.5gb of ram. Surely it would of cost pence to make it 2gb.

So if it says with Alexa does that mean it acts like the Echo? I could tell it to turn on the light and it will?
Gozer to tafarrant
19 May 171#29
No, it doesn't start up with voice commands. So you have to have it switched in the first place for it to respond to Alexa commands.

Probably although not sure if it listens for a wake word, Since they added Alexa to the fireTV I was able to ask it the same commands as the Echo Dot but the difference being I had to hold the voice search button on the fireTV remote to activate alexa.

Bah, the TrustedReviews page isn't even a proper review, just a slight update at the moment, similar to the ExpertReviews site.

I'm thinking of picking one of these up for my nephew for his birthday. He plays Minecraft and Roblox. Does the hd8 perform well with both games?
