Interested to know how you get on, I tried similar instructions to no avail. Chromebook now off to nephew at uni though I may have another try, assuming it comes back.

Anyone managed to get Google play store running using the dev mode?
Bought, typing on it at the mo. 4GB still on Amazon - new from £290.00, used from £263.98. Bought the 2GB version last week for £200, the two were identical in condition, obviously taken it back. Cheers OP!

I've got an ASUS chromebook which I love and use daily for browsing the interweb. Got 4gb ram and I can easily have several tabs open. I don't use it for more than just web browsing though, there aren't many great killer apps on the platform that I've found. Even video playback apps are poor and struggle with MP4/MKV which is a bit disappointing as it'd be great to use on a plane to watch stuff.
Been waiting a looooong time for that update that'll allow Android apps though which I was hoping to use an android video app.

I bought the R11 4gb/32gb about a month ago. I'm using mx player pro (was on offer here for free a few days ago, may still be free) for watching vids as I travel. Prior to mx pro, I used mx player for several years on various tablets. Both played every format I tried, including mkv.

I have the money to buy this laptop I just choose to use a credit card for the protection they provide and the additional warranty i get from my card provider. I pay off in full at the end off the month thus incurring no interest.

That's a good point. Forgot about the CCA protection.

Many people myself included prefer to pay by Credit card for the extra buyer protection it affords. Its also a LOT less hassle if card fraud occurs to just get a new credit card than it is If you suffer card fraud on a debit card attached to a current account.

Cold fees for using a credit card and Paypal

Not really. PayPal charge ridiculous fees. And if you can't use a debit card because you don't have the cash, you're better off avoiding using a credit card.

Thought I'd leave it until this morning to purchase but now OOS. Shame!
This is what these chromebooks should be selling for anyway, anything more and you might as well get one with a proper OS

I've bought two of these for my kids, and for homework, email and general browsing, they are great, with absolutely no administration problems, problems from viruses, updates. They have their work on the Google Drive, so its available at home or at school. You can do that with Windows, but you can also end up with files on a USB drive which gets lost, or that are only on the home computer, when they are at school.
One downside is that you need to choose a printer carefully. One that supports Google cloud print is best. I've got a Samsung SL-M2026W.
It is cheap, lightweight, and with good battery life. It does that by having a relatively slow processor, and a speedy operating system, which doesn't try to do big calculations. The 1080p screen means that you can view two A4 documents side-by-side. Windows laptops with a 1080p screen will cost quite a bit more.
I paid £280 a year ago for a brand new one of these, and £180 about 6 months ago for a refurbished one.

Thanks for the post - just ordered one. This is a great deal.
urgh...even more reason not to bother thinking about this one for a Win install then. Shame as the chassis looks nice.

This is an absolutely fantastic piece of kit.
Got one for the parentals at Xmas and have had to borrow it for a few weeks since. It is phenomenal value and IMO unbeatable if you are primarily browsing.
The battery life is ridiculous too, like 10 hours I got of constant browsing / YouTube etc before having to plug in.
It's a steal at this price.

You have to install some new drivers for the touchpad and keyboard. But other than that everything works 100% brilliant wee machine now and even before.
I bought a Lenovo 100s and was about to sell the Chromebook but I missed the touchpad gestures on the chromebook i.e simple things like two finger scroll which to my surprise the lenovo didn't have? Also windows 10 runs great on it just as quick at browsing etc... than Chrome OS and you get more freedom with windows.
Check these links out its about all you need if you want to try it out.
This doesn't have an m.2 connector. The 32GB looks to be eMMC or at least soldered. http://imgur.com/a/85mEL
That's the only real downside because if you could get Win10 working on this with say a 128GB SSD, that would be one hell of a machine for only £150 plus the SSD cost.
Does everything work post install?
This articles suggests that "You won’t be able to change audio or screen brightness settings". Does the trackpad work? Or power on/off key?
Are you able to format a chomebook and install windows 10?

With 32Gb storage I wouldn't bother unless you plan to increase the m2 card as well.

why would you want Windows on a Chromebook, I think your missing the whole point of a chromebook. most people only use the internet and people like me use it for the internet and to remote into my i7.

Same reason work gave us all chromebooks as we can browse etc and use google documents on them and if we need extra power we just use citrix to stream from a beefy PC which would beat down any overpriced laptop anyday

Even for an 'open box return', it's a good price.
