Avoid Laganas unless you're after a "fish n chips at the Old Red Lion" kind of holiday.
It's the Blackpool of the island and full of lairy British teens acting up.
Argassi is lively if you're after a bit of nightlife but it's not dominated by Brits.
Tsivili, Alikanas and Alykes are nice if you want a bit of quiet.
You can get boat trips out to the shipwreck from pretty much anywhere on the island.
I recommend you get some transport and head out into the mountains, you get a piece of real Greek culture and a you can pick up a Greek salad for peanuts

The "British" which is often used as a substitute for the more accurate "The English" are the worst people to be near on holiday. Its amazing how just one English couple can ruin a whole hotels peace and quiet.

Er, isn't that racist? I mix with all sorts when I go on holiday and take people just as I find them. There are obnoxious people of all nationalities, easily spotted and avoided.

Stayed at this hotel before. It is set back from the hustle and bustle so it is quiet by Laganas standards. Run by Tony and his wife. He is the chef and cannot do enough for you. Best food I have ever had.

I was there last year with my son, filthy place with drugs and gas openly sold in the hotel, I paid 300 extra to get a flight home for us as we couldnt stand it

Agreed. Kalamaki is also a great resort, close to the airport and close to Zante Town. It has a lovely beach too.

Agreed its an awful destination. There were more cigarette ends on the beach than sand too!

We took one of these holidays to Alykanas last summer and I disagree. Alykanas is every bit as Blackpool-ish as the next. It's basically all fish and chips, burgers, horse-and-cart rides and tourist tat. But that's Greece these days, sadly.
However, as a holiday it was what we made it - very relaxing and the beach is just 30 minutes walk away. There are some nice places to eat if you are willing to search for them.

the OP's acc is 8 years old so does seem odd

The link has been changed to the direct link I posted above. Previous it was going to another site and you had to click on that to get to the thomson site.
The other site may have been a referral type one which got them banned.

She can't do enough for me Eh! I'll visit her, even if I have said I would never set foot on Zante ever again. Worst holiday I have ever had.

I agree with hamsterpig! Its perfect for a young couple but if u want a more grown up holiday Agassi would be more for that age group. Rent a quad if your young and travel around the island. A tank of petrol will do u all day but make sure you get a good powerful one for the hills. Btw Bannan beach is the best one if your looking a great beach but make sure you go further up it as there is a beach pub and loud music an water sports on at the bottom going by my memory. Its a great place zante to visit. Btw make sure you see the bigggest greek flag in the world.

Slaganas is truly awful... Cameo Island and the surrounding beaches are surprisingly beautiful though.
...Go to Kefalonia, it's much nicer.

I completely agree. Used to go to Laganas most years until 2006 and by then most of the strip had been turned into cheap and cheerful kids bars. When the McDonalds arrived I thought it was time to find another destination! There's still some lovely places on the island, Argassi, Kalamaki and Alykes are lovely but we've since moved over to the neighbouring island. Much more choice and largely unspoilt!!

TBF, when anywhere is dominated by one nationally, it can be spoiled.

I find Germans and Russians to be far worse than the British abroad, rude and ignorant spring to mind.
We're going to Alykes in July for the first time but booked direct, looking forward, people who go here are very passionate about it

Use this as a base, hire a car and explore the island! Zante is stunning but you have to venture out of the tourist spots to truly experience it.

We've been to Kalamaki twice...really enjoyed it. Sea is shallow and very flat/calm (I prefer a few waves tbh)
Be aware if ur off to the shipwreck..its a full day trip and u might NOT get onto the beach.....if the water is even slightly choppy they won't pull in...you look at it from your boat then leave! check the forecast!!

That beach photo is actually Kefalonia. it's the most used beach photo in the world. When you get down to the beach it's white rocks that give the sea that colour and not suitable for laying on. Agree with British are arsewipes abroad..well come to think of it even here, I'm one born and bred.

No because British/English are nationalities not races. Prejudiced probably but definitely not racist.
Agree with the second point. Had holidays ruined by Russians/Germans/my fellow Brits/Indians/Chinese/Arabs.
I tend to find if a resort/area targets one nationality specifically. Something about that draws in a lot of the wrong people from that nation. Or for others the fact it almost feels like home overrides the natural caution when in a foreign country.

It might be nationalityist, but it's not racist.
English people are not a race. It's not racist.
