As a current Virgin customer I can confirm they DO NOT throttle the data connection. I get full 4G access at 30Mbps most of the time. They use the EE network and as my job involves a lot of movement around various geographical areas/hospitals/flats/houses, etc...I can testify to the signal strength, there are many areas where Vodafone/Three have very poor or no signal yet EE is strong.
Many don't know that EE have the contract to replace the current emergency services AIRWAVES handsets soon, and this will involve a requirement for >99% national data coverage - definitely the network to go with if you want signal in hard to reach places.
I don't work for Virgin or EE (_  .

I've just moved from Virgin (3G 2GB Unlimited calls/tests for £12.50 per month) to Three (4G 4GB Unlimited calls/tests for £9 per month with £45 Cashback)
1. Virgin were not interested in keeping me and stated that once my PAC was generated, my contract would be cancelled within 30 days even if I did not use the PAC code !
2. Travelling into Waterloo from Bracknell on the train, and then onto Stratford, East London, I can testify that the signal from EE and Three were virtually identical - poor areas on EE are just as bad on Three. Strong signal areas on EE are also strong on Three.
3. My colleague with an O2 phone got much better reception on the same journey EXCEPT for the notorious Ascot through Staines trainline deadspot.
It's dangerous to generalise too much and say Vodafone/Three are poor!
From what I have seen in the areas where I have travelled and live, O2 seems to be the best BUT then they are quite expensive.

Don't you lot get bored of the battle of the networks every time a sim deal is posted ??
That will add it to your basket, just remove the 1GB boost and go. Not sure if that link works with Quidco £13 though.

I upgraded my 3 household phones last month to this package. When I logged into my account today and went into Manage Addons, there was a £2 per month lifetime discount available which I could apply and maintain my current package. This was available for each of my 3 phones, so 2500 mins, unlimited texts, 5Gb 4G data and rollover for £8 per month. Check in your manage addons area.

Just got my first bill through, covering the period 29th to 30th May... for £10.
That's right. They're charging me a full month's line rental for 24 hours.
And I still haven't received the SIM card. But they're very quick to take the money!

I currently get unlimited data with Virgin for £10 a month and 150 minutes. It's 30 day rolling which is better but it's 3G not 4G.
Is it worth me swapping to this for the 4G? I have never gone over 5G before with unlimited so 5 gigs would be fine. Not sure if 4G really is worth it as doing this would tie me in to a year with potential price hikes.

Virgin customer care are utter jokers though. I spent 15mins on the phone agreeing to a price for two lines only to be told at the final hurdle "just to let you know we can't actually do that price it's going to be X, you're still okay with that aren't you?"
No. Of course I'm not.
I was told I'd go from
£9 a month
2gb data
1500 mins
unlimited texts
TO
£6 a month
24b data
2500 mins
unlimited texts
They then told me that the £6 a month was a £2 discount from their normal loyalty discount for the line which makes it £8 a month.
This would be PER LINE but all of a sudden when I confirm they say that the £2 is total discount and if I had a single line it'd be £6 but because I've got two it'll be £7 per line.
Time to see what cancellations say - calling them back after waiting 15mins on hold to have the call drop.

Does the roll over of data only work on one month or continue through the contract - for example if I only use 2GB in month 1 and 2GB in month 2 does that mean they roll over the unused total of 6 GB to month 3 making 11 GB available for month 3 and so on?

I enquired on the phone about this deal, Virgin just told me you dont get 0800 numbers included and that if I wanted this deal they would (as I'm an existing customer) apply a loyalty discount and give me 100, 0800 minutes for free - I thought 0800 number were free universally?
jnm21 to ohgoodman
26 May 171#141
Technically 0800 numbers are not 'included' [in allowances] they are 'free' [do not use allowances]. Last I knew that was OFCOM rules.
Worth noting the price is increasing by 3.5%% RPI in July- that's what it says on the order screen. And says they give you one month's notice. I know O2 raise prices annually but can't help but think they've timed this offer deliberately so that shortly after you join, you'll get a price rise notice from July. Still a good deal but not so impressed at the way they've timed that.

After some advice. I'm with TalkTalk mobile and love the signal - which network do they use now anyone know? It's changed this year I think for the better and I want to match it.

Talk talk still use the Vodafone network with the long running saga of them moving to 02. Personally I think every network will have areas were the coverage maybe poor or non existent. Can't complain about the Vodafone network although as mentioned prior the customer service is dreadful.

I'm with Talktalk mobile too, was paying £7.50 for more calls and texts than I'd ever use and 2.1GB data. Now I'm at 12 months it's going up to £15 with 700MB data. Needless to say I'm going elsewhere, not just because of the price hike but who needs that much data when you are on vodafone 3G? It's so slow that wherever I am I give up, lucky to get 2G if anything at all. Voice calls and texts seem OK but I was hoping that move to O2 was going to happen this side of the apocalypse.

With regards to the new EU law which allows us to use the inclusive mins + data in Europe, does anyone know what the fair use policy on this is? e.g. Three only allow 90 days (I think) whereas EE do not limit how long you spend abroad.

The link takes you to a 2Gb contract for £11, where you add on 2 extras (3gb free data, and £1/month discount) resulting in a 5gb contract for £10. Is that it? or will it change to a proper 5Gb contract offer later today ? I'm worried that the discount and free data are limited to a few months so you end up with a 2Gb contract
grifo to rjabse
26 May 17#64

I can speak from personal experience on this (although it was over a year ago so things may have changed). They sent me a very blunt text saying stop it immediately or we'll cut you off (and that was on an unlimited data deal - also 3G).
Point being, if you intent to use a significant portion of this data allowance for tethering, best to make sure before pulling the trigger on this deal.

I used to be on Virgin mobile (and still have the tv/broadband package) and ended up leaving because my calls to me would end up getting diverted to answer phone and then I wouldn't even get a message until hours after it was left. This would happen when I had full or very good signal and it happened with different phones, so I'm guessing they are throttling your signal to some extent.
When you're waiting for that important call (call for job interview, picking up car from mot, picking up parents from hospital) it gets so annoying I just left even though on the face of it they deal was excellent.
I switched to ID, whom use the 3 network and all I can say is they have been far and away superior to Virgin Mobile, and no way would I sign up to a 12 month sim on Virgin, not even if they gave me it for free, as actually getting my calls is more important to me.

Yes Virgin use EE (they're an MVNO). Before I joined Virgin I did some homework as I thought there was no way they would be half the price of EE for the same service. I had a 12 month contract at half price of £3.90 which was good but after 12 months I had no use for it, and wanted to save my number as PayAsYouGo, they told me they don't offer this service, so I requested PAC Code to take it to another provider for Pay As Go.
On my final bill I was stunned to see a charge of £93.23 as other charges, upon enquires online support they tell me And
The charge is more than contract itself, and I was never made aware of this charge. Someone was going to call me back but am still waiting.
Where do I stand legally to get my money back? And is there a law to stop them from doing these unfair practices? If they can't resolve the issue where can I get further help against these unfair and excessive charges?
I have been a loyal customer for a long long time but this has shattered my confidence in them.

In terms of the rollover, they said for this contract you get a total rollover of 3gb, so say you only used 2GB from your total 5GB in the first month, the next month your total allowance would be 8GB (5gb + 3GB month).

I was going to get two for the children's phones (currently on ID mobile) but not sure now as they don't allow capping.
To be hones I wouldn't believe what they said on the chat as I got the impression the person on the other end had no idea what they were talking about. I asked several valid questions and they just refused to answer....Weird...

Thanks for points in the right direction.
by the way, wasn't phone locking nonsense supposed to become illegal in 2017?
I've just done a speedtest and got 165Mbps...
Fair enough.
It would be like adding the addition of London's equivalent of America's Wall Street to say Portsmouth or something? (no offense to anyone living them sides like?), and expecting it to perform in the same league (in 100% each and every way) as that of it's London counterpart or something?, and ...
London is overpopulated not just with people, basically?.
I've already hooked up an earlier HUKD Network 3 SIM only offer! (similar to this one ... )
Ahhhhhhhh well?. :-)
Virgin Mobile have piggybacked via T-Mobile since day 1. :-)
Been with ee they have excellent cs offered my a booster signal right away. And another one too don't ask how I got it. But still find messages on my phone saying trying to call me etc. Only moved to ee thinking they were the best.
In terms of the rollover, they said for this contract you get a total rollover of 3gb, so say you only used 2GB from your total 5GB in the first month, the next month your total allowance would be 8GB (5gb + 3GB month).
Edit: Wonder if they'd give me this on my current one if I phoned up, only difference is that I'm on monthly rolling, but the only times I've ever changed the tariffs is during the yearly rises
