Many don't know that EE have the contract to replace the current emergency services AIRWAVES handsets soon, and this will involve a requirement for >99% national data coverage - definitely the network to go with if you want signal in hard to reach places.

After some advice. I'm with TalkTalk mobile and love the signal - which network do they use now anyone know? It's changed this year I think for the better and I want to match it.
I have 3GB data, 1000 calls and unlimited texts which was £5.50 a month on a 12 month contract that just finished and I want something similar with maybe more data for £10 a month maximum.

I recently moved from vodafone to ee and have to say i wish I'd stay with vodafone. Even though their cs dept not the best they did pay compensation for all errors they have the best network in my opinion. Well in London anyway.

Been with ee they have excellent cs offered my a booster signal right away. And another one too don't ask how I got it. But still find messages on my phone saying trying to call me etc. Only moved to ee thinking they were the best.

well got there £11 deal last month and now they gave me a surprise this month, annual price rise as 3.1%. so do not expect £140 a year

I had a 12 month contract at half price of £3.90 which was good but after 12 months I had no use for it, and wanted to save my number as PayAsYouGo, they told me they don't offer this service, so I requested PAC Code to take it to another provider for Pay As Go.

On my final bill I was stunned to see a charge of £93.23 as other charges, upon enquires online support they tell me And
The charge is more than contract itself, and I was never made aware of this charge. Someone was going to call me back but am still waiting.

Where do I stand legally to get my money back? And is there a law to stop them from doing these unfair practices? If they can't resolve the issue where can I get further help against these unfair and excessive charges?

I have been a loyal customer for a long long time but this has shattered my confidence in them.

Yes Virgin use EE (they're an MVNO). Before I joined Virgin I did some homework as I thought there was no way they would be half the price of EE for the same service. Turns out you get the full SIGNAL but you won't get the full speeds that EE customers get (supposedly). I can stream HD video on my Virgin sim on 4G, so I don't see how that isn't fast enough for anyone.

They can tell from the MAC code of the network device sending/receiving the data whether it's not from the phone from a tethered device.

Well you learn something every day :smiley: I know that I've never been charged more for doing it on Vodafone or Virgin. Guess some must still do it then, but I wouldn't personally sign-up with anyone that charged for it.

I can speak from personal experience on this (although it was over a year ago so things may have changed). They sent me a very blunt text saying stop it immediately or we'll cut you off (and that was on an unlimited data deal - also 3G).

Point being, if you intent to use a significant portion of this data allowance for tethering, best to make sure before pulling the trigger on this deal.

With regards to the new EU law which allows us to use the inclusive mins + data in Europe, does anyone know what the fair use policy on this is? e.g. Three only allow 90 days (I think) whereas EE do not limit how long you spend abroad.

I get about 125Mbps with EE 4G on the South Coast (not major town or city).

EE has several different tiers of 4G, each with different speeds. Most of the MVNOs use the lowest, cheapest tier. EE reserves its fastest speeds for its own customers on premium tariffs.

It is little annoying that Virgin appear to very inconsistent with offering things when cancelling. Some people report they have obtained great deals. As I understand it, Virgin are currently going through approval process to run their own network rather than MVNO.

I had to leave Virgin as they couldn't unblock automated calls and texts from 2 step authentication services and basically told me to tell lloydstsb that they are doing business wrong by having an automated call ring me when a new payment needs authorisation.

I get a solid 80mbs on Three 4g.... plus the added bonus that they never overcharged me, unlike vermin - who seem to employ the variable goalpost ploy every month.

Ok so i went for this deal and got all the way to the direct debit screen and then when it got to delivery option it flashed that i declined credit check(even though i can remember you get a check done ealier on in the form) , so called virgin and had no record of any order. I'm in shock - 1.5 minutes on phone to EE & got my PAC with no offers even made!!! What is going on? I was prepared to listen, but probably wouldn't have bitten. Now to look at my options; so many things to consider - EU roaming changes, needing less data except when roaming, so this rollover is interesting...

I recommend using Rootmetrics for all areas you go to often, to see who will provide the best coverage for you. They generally have EE down as best for coverage.

Worth noting the price is increasing by 3.5%% RPI in July- that's what it says on the order screen. And says they give you one month's notice. I know O2 raise prices annually but can't help but think they've timed this offer deliberately so that shortly after you join, you'll get a price rise notice from July. Still a good deal but not so impressed at the way they've timed that.

They are seriously accurate too and produce reports on a quarterly basis I think. Problem with EE has always been the prices of their tariffs but with some useful offers and cashback I think EE could work for some. Many people I know, jumped onto the 16GB offer last year.

TCB says it includes tethering whereas 3's website says not. Also note three charges for MMS at 40p, which strikes me as an old fashioned approach.

I've had Virgin since January. No "throttling" issues, infact it was slightly faster at both work and home. I could also tether my data despite Virgin saying you can't. The deal isn't as good as the the 20gb deal for 15 in my opinion but good nevertheless!

I've never managed to get tethering to work on even on Android via my Virgin mobile so be warned if this is important.

Does the roll over of data only work on one month or continue through the contract - for example if I only use 2GB in month 1 and 2GB in month 2 does that mean they roll over the unused total of 6 GB to month 3 making 11 GB available for month 3 and so on?

No, they will only rollover a maximum of 3gb pm, so in total the most you will ever get pcm is 8gb

Talk talk use Vodafone network. You'll have a much greater experience with this Virgin as they use EE. Superfast and cover most of Britain. Let us know how u get on with your phone data when you switch. I guarantee you'll be amazed :wink:

I currently get unlimited data with Virgin for £10 a month and 150 minutes. It's 30 day rolling which is better but it's 3G not 4G.

Is it worth me swapping to this for the 4G? I have never gone over 5G before with unlimited so 5 gigs would be fine. Not sure if 4G really is worth it as doing this would tie me in to a year with potential price hikes.

I've used three in just about every big city in the UK and in almost all, as soon as you enter a decent building the signal goes ultra-weak or vanishes entirely.

Please be aware, Virgin Media Mobile do not allow "BILL CAPPING", so you will be charged if you phone certain numbers and go over your usage limit.

currently in a uk city, my 3 sim gets 40mb through my phone and 37mb from my laptop when I tether. my virgin sim gets 47mb through my phone ans 0.2mb through my laptop when I tether. tried this on two phones. not sure how but are Virgin limiting tethering?

Just got my first bill through, covering the period 29th to 30th May... for £10.
That's right. They're charging me a full month's line rental for 24 hours.
And I still haven't received the SIM card. But they're very quick to take the money!
