Offering you additional variety and value in your handheld gaming options, the Nintendo 2DS is a streamlined version of the Nintendo 3DS that will play games available for the Nintendo 3DS, as well as the Nintendo DS in 2D.
The Nintendo 2DS retains many of the same hardware features as the Nintendo 3DS including the same Nintendo 3DS gameplay controls, backwards compatibility with the vast existing library of Nintendo DS games. It also offers wireless connectivity, giving you access to the Nintendo eShop with StreetPass and SpotPass functionality. However, the console takes on a new distinctive fixed, slate form design, and will play all packaged and download Nintendo 3DS games in 2D.
The 2DS console is a great introduction for those unfamiliar with Nintendo, and it is also a fantastic new way to enjoy the handheld experience for those already a part of the DS family.
ive been watching some of these on ebay and the mario kart bundle has been going for this price second hand. I don't understand why people fail to look around a bit before purchasing...

It's a lot better on the New 3DS / XL in fairness - the head tracking makes it a significantly easier function to live with for sure. I was in the same boat as you, but managed to buy a New 3DS XL from another forum boxed new for £125, and am glad I did - it's decent and the back catalogue is ample enough to keep me going until Switch bundles are more to my liking.

For those considering a 2/3DS for adult use, I'd highly recommend this 2DS. I've held the clamshell versions and this is far more comfortable for any length of time, and is surprisingly well built for the price.
Finished OoT on it recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience (both the game, which is much improved from the original, and the console itself).
