Cheap formal shoes are a bit of a false economy. One pair, you wear for one year and look crap, vs a half decent goodyear welted pair you can use for years and years and that will look great if you take of them. Actually I think older decent shoes look better as they get older. Anyway, rant over, just my opinion.

It's alright saying that.... I wear Barker's which cost me between £200 & £300 but not everyone has the money to get maintainable shoes and at a mere £16 these shoes will suit a lot of people. Heat from me.

Agreed. I wear formal business wear everyday and walk 2-3 miles a day.
I start off buying £40 formal shoes which wore out in 4-6 months, and even when re-healed looked old.
Then I finally spent £160 on a pair of Loake goodyear welted shoes in 2013 and I've replaced the entire soul and heal once in 2 years (£40). It will take a while to break even, but they are incredibly comfortable, and the calf skin leather has got a nice crease to it.

The only issue with these will be the quality and comfort in the sole, but good value nonetheless
Edit: Actually, from reading that thread, quite a few speculated whether they were "Genuine Leather" but it seems Matalan made a boo-boo with the website description - they plainly are, as you can see from the stickers/labels.

There's no soul (sic) in Loake but it might have soles!

The explanation is in evident from exactly what he wrote.
For £16, I don't think you can go wrong with genuine leather shoes, even if they only last one season.

Got a pair of Kurt Geiger boots for £60 in a sale , originally £250 in 2005, still going strong, but for £16 these look ok and will probably last a season ,seem much better than others

I just posted a pair that was like 62 quid! You can get plenty of deals on sales, don't need to spend £200 at all if you shop around.
I don't think you understand my comment. I want Barker's. I don't want the makes you have very kindly suggested to me. I was merely saying that if you only have £16 or so to spend then the post is ideal. I hope I've made it clear enough for you.

Wow these are small sizes. I am an eleven, occasionally ten, but I bought size elevens and can't even get them on my feet, Back they go!
