The Xiaomi charges 95% in 2 hours. Not sure I'd call that SLOOWW. And if you are charging faster than that, you'd NEED a replaceable battery because it would be knackered after 16 months. Faster you charge, shorter the battery life. Battery in the Xiaomi will be good for years and you'll upgrade before then.

I went from Android and Now launcher without any learning curve at all. Extra options in MIUI are clear and plainly laid out so don't agree with you there.

I just brought one of these and it's been a revelation (and I'm coming from a Galaxy S7). The battery life is amazing which is a major problem with most phones IMO. The snapdragon 625 performs great. I wouldn't go back.

Apparently the included case/film aren't worth it. I'd say you'd be better searching for them separately on other Aliexpress listings rather than Amazon since they'd be cheaper and delivery time wouldn't be much of an issue since they'd take around the same amount of time as the phone to arrive.

Be sure to look for "Redmi Note 4X" when looking for cases. In China, the original Redmi Note 4 is Mediatek and the Redmi Note 4X is Snapdragon, with a newer housing. The Snapdragon 'Global Version' Redmi Note 4 has the newer housing like Redmi Note 4X. However if you search for "Redmi Note 4" cases they'll almost always be for the older Mediatek housing and won't fit this 'Global Version' correctly. Also the positioning of the camera and light sensor is slightly different on each, so you'd have to get a Redmi Note 4X screen protector for the right fitment.
dreadzone101

This is the 'Global Version' and will be sealed with Xiaomi's Official Global ROM factory pre-installed, so flashing the ROM yourself after downloading it from MIUI website wouldn't change anything. Usually the only time sellers tamper with ROM is when it's a China Version because those are pre-installed with China ROM. Since Global Version already has official Global ROM pre-installed they'd have no reason to mess with it.

No the price is still $145.99, approx £116 todays exchange rate.
If you choose to pay in pounds then the exchange rates does fluctuate slightly everyday

Chances are it's her sim card and network not permitted for roaming so call her provider and ask. Failing that tell her to go to...
Settings / Sim cards and mobile Networks ( top option in settings.)
Make sure 'Mobile Data' is on. Down to 'Data Roaming' and select it and make sure it is set to 'Always'
(But it's probably her provider hasn't set her sim for roaming.)

Dont worry guys,I jokingly commented mines been in the air for 3 days, when it did eventually arrive in the UK a day later it then took only a further 2 days to deliver.I ordered on the 3rd May and received it on the 15th May so 12 days in total..not bad.
However I also ordered a phone case on the 4th May,it departed original country on the 11th and is still in the air so I guess delivery times vary a lot.

2.5 day gap before next tracking update London. Maybe they get bounced through multiple flights to get there, then there's customs also.

2017.05.04 07:18 (GMT-7): Arrival at Destination Post (Country: GB)

JayR123

I suspect they are working fine. They aren't supposed to beam out at you but merely show you where they are if it's dark. During the day you would barely be able to see any light coming from them. If you are used to overly bright lights like you get on Samsung phones it may seem dim but that's by design, not a flaw. Both of my different Redmi phones are the same and I have seen as such in reviews.

I added Russia (of all countries!) as so as to avoid additional warranty charges at first but then added my UK delivery address assuming it would automatically be shipped to my home address, so you're probably correct. The funny thing is when I chatted with Aliexpress they said my bank had rejected payment but when I contacted the bank they said it had been approved but no monies had been drawn. Aliexpress have closed the order case number now so I guess that will be the end of it unless I send the appeal details they requested(which I'm loathe to do) or if I reorder. The bank end said they could not actually put a stop on the order since so money has been drawn. The best advice they could give was to keep checking my account online but for how long? At least I have got an email from Aliexpress closing the case so I guess if they do draw on the money I will have a case against them?
JayR123

hotukuser2015

PS: Changed country setting to Russia (instead of Romania as was suggested earlier) and then back to UK at checkout (for free shipping) and tried to avoid warranty charge but maybe this is the reason my purchase was rejected?? Not sure whether to try again or leave things be.

Got mine Monday (2 weeks since order), very pleased. Does pretty much everything needed in a phone.

Battery life is very nice indeed as others have said. 2.5 days of use took it from 100>40%.

Best of all, it was only £115 (with £9 quidco poss coming), so I don't need to treat it like a delicate eggshell. If it breaks or I lose it, no big deal.

Very confusing as the 'new' link has now been removed from the OP, the price went up to £140+ and has now come down again!

When people have been ordering, what currency have you used in the drop-down? I presume if you set it to GBP, somebody else does the currency conversion which might not be as good as my credit card which doesn't charge for currency conversions.

It will be faster and smoother than your G2 for sure.

I still have a Galaxy s5 and my new Xiaomi phone performs better than that.

For the price I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this phone.

bigger screen yes. but it's the same 1080p so ppi will be worse.

you'll only get 1gb extra ram offset by a mid range chip which is built for efficiency not high end performance.

I'm not sure how much smoother UI has to be. it'll do you want without lag.

Liked my G2, but since then we've had an hauwei honor 6, an Elephone p7000 and an LG G4, but if when the note 4 arrives I think it's like having the G2 again I'll be seriously miffed - camera I can understand being better on the G2, but I'd expect it to feel noticeably quicker, smoother, better bigger screen and an awesome battery life. The note 4 is reluctantly replacing the G4, I expect the camera to be the only disappointment. I already have a mi max so have an idea what to expect, albeit the Redmi uses cheaper components than the mi series phones.

Extra comments for the Motorola, not that I have said model,
The G5 has a removable battery (when battery fades, replace battery but the Xiaomi is not removable),
Motorola Security Updates (unconfirmed but in their other devices they seldom do security updates, but,
xda-developers support for Motorola devices is excellent for viable long term custom rom support and security updates,
Motorola Support for device repairs are unhelpful,
no Gorilla Glass protection (ditto as the Xiaomi),
no compass (Xiaomi has compass),
no nfc (ditto for Xiaomi)
fast charging ability & included turbo charger (Xiaomi does support SLOOWW charging),
Vanilla Android on Motorola and running Android 7 with Google Assistant (Xiaomi is still on Android 6)
(compared to MIUI which has idosyncracies and design wise is a Confucious hodgepodge of Cleaner,Antivirus,AppLocker, MIUI memory optimisations, MIUI optimisations (besides standard Android battery optimisations) all munged together in Android Settings and some accessible from Security App,
three independent slots for sim1, sim2, microsd (unconfirmed statement) (Xiaomi has hybrid second SIM/microsd slot)

If you like standard vanilla Android and Google Now Launcher, there would be a significant 'learning curve'.

The phone has a hall sensor which detects magnets. For a case with a magnet, it causes the screen to auto wake/sleep when the flip portion of the case is lifted/closed. That's why the Gearbest page lists it as one of the functions of the case.
davening
3 May 17 #168
That transparent window wallet case looks great and at £2.36 (on desktop, possibly cheaper through the app?) and cheaper than the £8 Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X case (which has a magnet! Wooo, whatever that does).

Suspect the one you suggested doesnt have the maget if that matters to anyone.

Will that fit this global version? I initially bought a wood effect case which was labelled for the Redmi Note 4 and the cut out at the back for the touch sensor and camera didn't match up. That case is for the original Mediatek Redmi Note 4. The Global Version Redmi Note 4 is Snapdragon and has updated housing like the Redmi Note 4X, hence why people should look for Redmi Note 4X cases. If you look at the q&a it says not for Redmi Note 4X. Also someone who got this phone with that official RN4 flip case, commented that the case would not function properly and suspected it was due to the hall sensor being repositioned, therefore it wouldn't detect the magnet in the case for the sleep/wake function. Comments about it here on a previous RN4 thread.

The original Xiaomi cases are good quality yet very slim. Similar to the £40 offerings from Samsung and Apple. You should be able to pick one up for £6 or £7. I got mine from here...http://www.gearbest.com/cases-leather/pp_493105.html
These are proper flip cases and automatically turn on the phone when opened.

Edit...
NUTS ! Sorry. Forgot I got this for my Note 4 Pro version.

Agree with all this - I've never come close to using up all the ram and always about a 1gb + free.

I've let a few friends have a mess about with this phone and asked them how much they think I paid for it - most of them guess around the £300 mark.

The phone feels flagship quality and has performance to match. Only the camera isn't flagship but it's still a match for top mid tier phones and can take some lovely photos.

Like you I'm blown away by the performance to price ratio of this phone.

I am using this phone and I think the average user (in which I include myself!) is fine with this 3gb/32gb version. I normally have over 1gb of memory free and if you ever needed more storage you could get an SD card. I think this phone is unbelievable value for money and far exceeds my expectations (I am coming from a Galaxy S7)......and it's great not to be a slave to the nearest power point as the battery life is fantastic.

In terms of performance, battery life, screen and build quality this will be a step up.

I would expect the camera to be about the same.

MIUI is different than stock and takes a little getting used too but once you do you really appreciate it. It is the most customisable phone I've ever owned.

The only issue for a lady might be that it is a rather big phone. Screen is great though.

Ordered one for my better half, her G4 is lasting well but the battery life is starting to wind her up, let's see how the note 4 compares, the camera will be a disappointment after the G4, but maybe there'll be enough pluses in other areas to help. Worked out at £114 without the warranty, and there's 8% quidco, so something just over £100 delivered  just had the quidco from my mi max paid which was nearly £18 meaning the mi max was £117 delivered - ridiculous prices for top quality kit.

Just order the phone.

I ordered the bundle phone/tempered glass/ flip cover. Disappointingly, although the flip cover was a high quality MOFI one which had smart. sleep/ wake function, it annoyingly didn't have a front window. This means to check the time, something your average human being does at least a dozen times a day, you have to flip open the cover for the screen to come on.

Also the screen protector they sent is not even close edge to edge. There is a gap of 4mm ALL the way round the screen. Other threads on this same phone complain of the same thing.

I have had to order another screen protector & case.
Sandy1012
1 May 17 1 #141

I'm not sure what the flipcase bundled by Aliexpress is like but the silicone case I got was rubbish and went straight in the bin. I got a case off eBay and delighted with it. Remember to buy accessories for the 4x model as that's the same as the global Note 4 version.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201845203681
That's the case I bought.
dreadzone101
1 May 17 4 #136
Apparently the included case/film aren't worth it.

Hi echo06,

Once you connect the USB cable to your PC, tap on the USB Charge icon on your phone notification area and you'll have further two choices; one is transfer photos and another is transfer files. If you tap on transfer files, your Redmi Note 4 will be recognised on your PC. Double click on the Redmi Note 4 icon on your PC and you will be able to access the Redmi Note 4 through your PC. I did it this morning to transfer photos to it. Hope this helps

It's quite a positive review I thought. They score it lower as they go against the MediaTek Note 4 (a bit faster), but they fail to mention that the MTK has about half the battery life, won't get custom rom/developer support and even Xiaomi tend to not bother updating their MTK phones properly. Hell this Snapdragon model has just had an official beta for Android 7 Nougat released, the MTK will never be upgraded from Android 6.

Why do you prefer stock Android? Never really understood this - yes in the early days of Android many manufacturer roms were poor and dragged down performance , but some of the features in miui the Huawei roms are really useful and well integrated. Last time I felt the need to install a custom rom was probably my Galaxy S2. Just curious why folk prefer stock Android?

the p2 would be a worthy choice instead of this if you wanted a UK warranty.

however xiaomi phones are very good build and a good brand.

Are you using two network sims in the phone? because a lot of dual sim phones will only work with 3&4g on ONE sim slot at a time. For instance my Lenovo has a talk mobile in slot one and it makes and receives calls on 2g and my '3' sim is in slot two and in the phone settings it is set as the data sim.
If I try and use two '3' sims only one will pick up a signal because it's not dual 3 or 4g active at the same time on both slots.

I bought one of these phones in a previous deal from Xiaomi. Really impressive phone for the money and TCB has already paid out. Slipped my sim in and everything worked straight out of the box. Really fast and responsive - I tried GTA on it and it performs perfectly. I really like the MUI interface and the fingerprint technology works flawlessly. Decent camera too, although not to be compared with premium phones. I've moved from a Sony Z3 Compact and it's like a breath of fresh air. Initially I was put off by the screen size but now I really like the extra space. The screen is really nice too and overall the phone feels like a quality phone. I added the screen protector and case from Xiaomi for a few extra pounds and both are good quality. I'm never going back to paying stupid contract prices for a phone now. Even if this only lasts a year it's still a massive saving.

How can you guarantee that the box will be sealed? In fact, do Xiaomi boxes even come sealed (my Mi5 did not have any stickers or seals, or evidence that there ever was)?

Everyone needs to remember that buying from AliExpress is like buying from Ebay, not Amazon. Please make sure that you buy from a reputable vendor... check how long they've been trading, what their score and feedback is, and search the web for feedback on forums. I purchased from Goldway, who I can recommend, and I've read excellent feedback on Dreami (there are obviously other good vendors too).

My mi max from an aliexpress seller was delivered to rural Scotland 21 days after ordering and it arrived a couple of days before Christmas. It took 4 days for the seller to dispatch, 3 days to leave the country, 10 days to arrive at heathrow and 4 days for Royal Mail to deliver - using the free delivery option. In my case the seller had 5 days to dispatch the phone or aliexpress automatically cancels the order and issues a refund. The seller doesn't get the money from aliexpress till you confirm you've received your phone so it's in the sellers interest to get it to you as quickly as possible.
There are lots of aliexpress horror stories, but i prefer the way they work.

I have the redmi note 3 pro, and got this for my son a month ago, arrived after nearly 4w with no problems.
The battery life, screen and general feel are an upgrade over the RN3, despite what the specs say. Son couldn't be happier. Haven't got the talk talk SIM working yet, 3 SIM works straight off...
My son has also compared side by side with his friend who has an iPhone 7. He can't believe how similar the quality and feel of the device is for 20% of the cost. Obviously the camera and waterproofing are major advantages for the iPhone, but i think the quality vs cost of this phone is going to be a shock for anyone who picks it up.

If you're looking to get some, be sure to buy ones that are specifically advertised for "Global Version" Note 4 or Redmi Note 4X. If you try to look for "Redmi Note 4" cases, they'll almost always be for the original Mediatek model which has a slightly different housing and won't fit right. The Snapdragon Redmi Note 4 'Global Version' shares the same housing as the Chinese Snapdragon Redmi Note 4X.

Yeah, that's the exact same phone.

Got one of these a few months back. More than pleased with it. Camera is good, dual SIM works well. Battery excellent. No problems connecting via Bluetooth or WiFi. Infrared control of my TV and DVD, etc... No problems with 3 or O2 cards. The Xiaomi Redmi case is very nice and around £6. (Considering Samsung and Apple charge £30-40 for the same quality case, why wouldn't you !) The 5.5 screen is bright and looks excellent and so close to the edge the phone it's no bigger than my last 5 inch screen phone. Fingerprint sensor on back is convenient and very fast. I was seriously impressed on receiving it and I still am 3 months later.

I got the Note 3 a few months back but the OTA update won't work at all, says there are no new updates to install but I'm on MIUI 7 and they're on 8 now so it should be. Anyone else have this problem?
doncoop to Thunderlips69
27 Apr 17 #27
see whether you've got a custom ROM on there, cause that could be a reason why.

in theory you could manually download the update, add it to the phone and then select it manually in the update app.
damadgeruk to Thunderlips69

Probably on a vendor rom, is your MIUI version 7.1.9.0.0 or similar? Official roms have four digits, not 5.

Gary, I had a similar delivery experience. Came in less than 8 days. But I am having a problem getting my internet on £ to work. The SIM works fine on my old Meizu MX2 so I dont see any reason it shouldnt work. I have ploughed through the various support pages and followed them to the letter. Any insights you may have as to what I am not setting properly?

Bought this a month ago at this price, its been fantastic so far, battery life is 3-4 days for me, haven't noticed any difference in day to day performance compared to the s6 I had. I can't see me spending a lot of money on a phone again, as this battery life and performance for the money, along with build quality is outstanding

DopeyDunker
27 Apr 17 #14
I haven't used the camera much but I would say it's 'good' as compared with the S7 which I would call 'excellent'. The trade-off on these type of phones is usually the camera. In my view the excellent battery life and overall everyday performance represents excellent value for money. Not to mention it's £2-300 or so cheaper than an S7
DopeyDunker
27 Apr 17 4 #7
I just brought one of these and it's been a revelation (and I'm coming from a Galaxy S7). The battery life is amazing which is a major problem with most phones IMO. The snapdragon 625 performs great. I wouldn't go back.
