Used to expand my connections further where the TV is sitting.
Maybe someone else need it, too.

Sorry for being basic but how does this work? I currently have an Ethernet cable coming from a power line wall swtich internet adaptor, which i switch from being connected to my tv and my xbox, if I had this would it effectively act as a splitter allowing me to then have a cable running into both my tv and x box?

You don't need a Gigabit switch for this - you can buy a much cheaper 5 port 100Mbps switch such as the TP-LINK TL-SF1005D for under £7.

Cheers, this is really useful info, will look to get one of these 5 port switches, thanks for the suggestion on the TP Link, will probably go with that considering I already have some TP Link products. Thank you

Of course it needs to be powered so another power socket needs to be found for it.

Just bought a tplink metal 108 to add more ports to my router.
Different coloured leds for the speed of connection was the main reason for this one.

Note that you can get the plastic case version of this for a pound less.

If you already have 4 ports on your modem and 8 on this, you connect both with a cable (losing 2 ports) but you then gain 10 usable ports
You also need a spare plug socket.
it's just like and extension lead/splitter really

Please excuse me being thick but will me adding this item as you detail above and then using all the 10 ports to hard wire all my equipment mean that I will weaken my supplied Broadband signal significantly ie the signal was split 4 ways and now using this unit it will be split 10 ways?

Your broadband signal/performance wont change having this switch hooked up in your house. Splitting the connection like this doesn't deteriorate anything
Your broadband performance will obviously deteriorate if you have 10 devices all using the internet at the same time of course
