Headline specs are "look" okay but build quality and component quality is garbage. I used to have a very similar Medion model to this. Screen was crap, keyboard bounced like a trampoline, trackpad was a joke, motherboard was cheap junk, fan signature went up and down like Brilly bouncing his bunkbed, BIOS couldn't be updated, SSD was slow and real world battery life was terrible. Hinges on the screen eventually the broke the cheap plastic bezels on the screen. Brilly thought it was great though but then he reads Which? :laughing:

still the shiny patches on the screen and the fact the battery will 'hold a charge' is reassuring indeed

It would be nice to see some evidence that these Medions are not very high quality - most of the critics are using emotive language and demonstrating little/no proof while professional reviews (not inc. Which!) suggest that they are good machines. I imagine Lenovo X1 Carbons are better built but you'd have to get an old second-hard or refurb to get anywhere near this price - surely a brand new machine with 7th gen processor and warranty is a better bet, especially for under £400.

14", 1.4kg, IPS screen, 1440p... you can get i7 / 8GB / 240GB SSD versions less than 500 apparently

You'd be far better off trying to track down a refurbished Lenovo X1 Carbon. Even a refurbished one will be better quality than this shonky Medion and the X1 is one of their top of the line business ultrabooks with high end component quality and build as well as 14", 1.4kg, IPS screen, 1440p, vastly better keyboard etc. You can get i7 / 8GB / 240GB SSD versions for about £500 or less and there were i5 versions going a few months ago for around £429.

My dad had a Medion that he bounced off the floor, smashing the screen, but it worked as a small factor PC via a screen for many years after with no issue. I think every maker has their detractors.

There should be no problem with 4GB provided you don't want it for gaming. You would want a separate graphics card to game anyway. Rarely see mine go above 2/2.5gb, its my 3rd gen i5 processor that runs at 100% that i think limits my laptop not the ram.

Per Amazon specs (where it's the same price as found by Winchman yesterday) - weight is 1.4kg, battery life only 4 hours.
Heat added (best <£400 laptop I've seen for ages) but it's not really an ultrabook as they claim with these specs. So it depends whether you want to pay another £100+ for a bit more portability (and maybe RAM).
