Getting a diesel for 5,000 miles a year is absolute madness.

Nope, funnily enough Peter Vardy did not call back when they said they would, so I got annoyed and didn't bother. I have been looking at the new Mustang now, but unsure what to go for. Like you, not alot of price quotes have stood out to me recently. Hope you get a good deal!

Did ever go and see the car? I have tried a few price quotes and they have not come close, so will be going on to see about one on Sunday.

Your right better to have a Jag badge to impress the neighbours than a Ford badge but mpg is still a massive problem on all cars.

Sorry I didn't know you had to stick just to the title,
It was just my opinion on people buying diesels in general.
Shock horror someone is now mentioning VW on a jaguar xe r sport diesel leasing site !! Ban them

I'd gladly buy a Japanese car, however I do a lot of long travel and they I doubt any Japanese car can give ride comfort and luxury like a flagship Mercedes Benz.

How much does a 2 year lease on a Mondeo of similar spec?
I can't find a Mondeo deal cheaper, so surely your argument makes this hotter - or don't you think a Mondeo is a good car either?

11 Apr 17#41
Why? Just curious as was looking to buy a 13/14 plate XF as they've got into my price bracket. What's the reliability issue? Why problems with a used Diesel - my 4 year old used Diesel Citroen hasn't given me any problems.

I should add, 238,900 miles to the moon, so between those 2 I did manage it, only without wings and rockets.... and spacesuits.... space food.... etc.

2nd gen
If it helps, apart from the problems it was a great car.
Mine definitely needed the odd bulb or 5, but they're serviceable parts I felt. I realised, my Passat did eventually develop a common fault at 130,000 miles with the drain holes blocking and causing the footwell to leak. Cleared it out myself, let the car dry out and put another 30,000 miles on it before my wife commanded me to get something new for once. I must've been the lucky one with my VW's it looks like.

I've seen it all now. A HUKD car thread where someone makes a sensible and factual comment about reliability. Most just repeat whatever nonsense VW marketing department come up with.

If I had a pound for every 'my VW went to the moon and back multiple times and didn't even need a bulb'...I used to be a Service Manager with them, I have first hand experience of what they are really like.

Whereas my experience of VW has been ultra reliable. My last VW went to the garage twice in the 3 years I had it, for 2 services. 2 previous VW's racked up 280,000 miles between them without a single issue. Ford Galaxy was nothing but problem, including 2 new drive shafts. My Kia is some 5 months old, 3 visits to the dealers so far.
What I can conclude from this, every manufacturer has problems. Although I would still worry about owning a Jag

Lol, jump into the F-Pace if possible, sitting higher on the road is a definite bonus. There were some good deals on the XC90's last week if you fancy one.
Has your XF started rusting? Mine had its cross members start to rust at around the 15k miles mark.

I did have a conversation via email this afternoon, and they did say they could work out a similar deal for petrol, but I did not take it further as I don't need mine till September, so I have no prices.

Surely better off buying one 18 months old at £18k on a 5 year loan, got to be around the same monthly cost and no mileage limits?
Quite a few 65 plates on Autotrader from £18k and a loan of that amount over 5 years is about £325/month.

If you are thinking about it but want to go for the higher mileage option - there is no benefit to going for the higher mileage options. The cost is 13.08p per mile so if you go under, you'd save on the 5k miles package and if you go over, you'd have to pay anyway.

They're not BAD to be fair, much better than their sibling, Land Rover, and I'm sure better than German and French stuff.
The Japanese and Koreans rule the roost though in terms of reliability, but many people just have to buy a badge - everyone gets tired and learns the hard way eventually though.

Hi, this is my local main dealer rather than an online presence, so may be able to negotiate something locally with here as a back up.
Best I could see prior to this was around £1,200 down and around £360 a month.

Thanks for the information, currently have 64 plate XF 2.0d with lease ending at the start of September so just beginning to have a look around at prices etc. The only thing I don't like about it is the engine, the 1 - 2 seconds of heart in the mouth when you get to the first couple of roundabouts in the day when its pick up is so slow.
Ideally was looking to switch to a petrol, but was hoping the R Sport had more about it, will just have to take one for a test drive - although once in the dealer will have to resist the F Pace at £499

5000 miles is only 13 miles a day. I don't think you'll see much difference in fuel savings over such a short limit, go for the petrol if you do shorter journeys. I had the XF r sport last year as a company vehicle and it was too loud for my liking.
Whitedot
10 Apr 17#9
Yeah it's not as bad as a lease but even so it'll be doing so few miles it'll barely get warm, meaning the economy will very likely be pants and I wouldn't like to guess at how clogged up the DPF will get (which presumably will be the driver's problem).

Is that in regard as to the purchase price being higher versus savings, or that the actual running costs over 5,000 miles is more? All articles I can find seem to talk about higher purchase price, depreciation etc all of which are irrelevant with a lease, like the article below. Am I missing something about the daily running costs?
PS this deal is priced on 5,000 miles but you can have any amount as long as you observe the 13.08p excess mileage.
