IKEA just released cheap alternative to smart lighting. I have been using couple of bulbs for 2 weeks and very happy with them. They pair directly to Smartthings hub if you have one. Unfortunately, I read somewhere that these don't work with Hue bridge. They don't have any colour bulbs at the moment.
The colour temperatures for the bulbs change between 2200 and 4000 unlike the Philips hue which is 2700 to 6500. These bulbs are much brighter than the hue bulbs. The E27 versions are almost 200 lumen brighter than hue bulbs.
Bulbs start as cheap as £9. They also have cheap GU10's for £12.
The hub is also half the price of hue at £25 if you need to buy one.

How can a light bulb be smart?
Is it silently working on some fiendishly complex problem when you go to bed.
Beware, one day the lightbulbs of the world will combine as one and take over the world.

If they're linked into Smartthings then yes? Else I don't believe they have native integration yet.

Do you know if the sensor also works with ST?

I don't think there is a device handler yet for this. Xiaomi motion sensors are cheap and work well with smartthings.

I saw on a YouTube review you have to buy the £15 remote control even if you only want to use the app!

Not sure about the remote, but you will need a zigbee hub. The ikea one or something like smartthings. It doesn't work with hue bridge.

Quick question guys. Is it possible to have smart bulbs from different companies work in conjunction with each other if you have their hubs?
For example can i set a particular scene if i have hue bulbs and this in one room with both the hue hub and smartthings hub? Thanks.

Yes this is possible with smartthings. But you will need your hue hub and other lights hooked up to the smartthings.
I have lifx, hue, osram lightify and ikea bulbs working together.

Don't listen to this person, they are clearly crazy, lightbulbs do not have secret plans to control the universe, please make all light bulbs smart bulbs.
No, I am not a lightbulb, why do you ask fellow human?

They're not smart, they're not as dim as some of the others!

So if I were to replace all the lights in my flat with smart bulbs then control them through google assistant (not got Google Home, so just assistant on a phone) I'd need... a smart things hub for ~£100 and then bulbs for each light fitting (13 GU10s, 4 B22s or whatever the standard bayonet is called) for ~£200, then if I wanted PIR in the bathrooms and hallway there's no way of doing that right now? That sound right to everybody? Any better/cheaper solutions out there?
Yes, replace your light switches with smart RF switches and a Broadlink RM Pro. The switches are about £12 each. The RM Pro is about £25. Then you either control them from the app, or get an Echo and pass the RM Pro config through to it using the Tasker plugin. This way you can use any old bulb you like.

I am hoping they open up to Google Home soon, this is a real Hue killer when it comes to price. £189 for 60% of my house lighting to be "Smart" is a bargain. Just the kitchen and bathrooms with GU10's to complete the house, which can wait a few months for further funds.

So true... the price of the Hue GU10s leaves a lot to be desired, considering most houses will have like 8 in one room! However, having used Google home and Echo to control my lights, it gets very boring very quickly. Other than "all on" or "all off", controlling each room is a real pain - you end up having a 2 minute conversation to turn off the whole house.

Just create a grouup called “everything” in alexa and it will turn it all off
