THIS WILL NOT CREATE A MULTIZONE SYSTEM FOR YOU. IF YOU DONT HAVE A MULTIZONE SYSTEM OR DONT KNOW, THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE ONE. THIS PRODUCT WILL BE USELESS TO YOU The recent Hive no installation post has gotten a lot of heat, at £133 for the Hive system, I wanted it for multizoning and found this deal. Maplins have an offer which is £5 off £40 spend, and £10 off £75 spend. This offer applies only INSTORE. This deal applies to all sales. Offer is only running till store closing on Monday The multizone unit is £79, which is the same as everywhere else currently on offer, and this is bought down to £69 with the current offer. I also purchased the Hive system at Maplin for £133 as it is on sale at £143, but as this would be the same price as Amazon, I won't post it separate.

Ordered the Hive system this morning from Amazon for 133, great price, what's this extra single unit used for then?

Multizone, so if your system is set up to provide heating to upstairs and downstairs on 2 different thermostats, you can use this device. If you don't know about it, your system isn't suitable for it.
If you are planning on doing a new system, you should look into getting a zoned system as it can save you on heating bills.

The temperature is pretty stable throughout my home so I'd guess this is not for me.
Hardly used my thermostat to alter things preferring my laptop or mobile phone app which is more quick and easy

A thermostat measures temperature. if you don't have this you can't control the temperature through your app in the first place.
also this isn't to balance the temp through the house. it's to make it so youlll can set a higher temp downstairs in the day, and lower upstairs in the day, as you don't use upstairs. so it prevents you from heating areas of the house that don't actually need heating at times you select

Anybody know if it's possible to add more than one multi-zone yet (or will it never be possible)? When I bought I was told limit was main unit plus one multi-zone (I had three thermostats to replace just downstairs in a house I bought!!).
Also if you have have multi-zone fitted make sure they send the right engineer round or can fit MZ!

good question. googled it, you can use 2 additional zones.
is it that much different to fit multi zone than single? seemed pretty straight forward to me lol

So, I have the hive v1 system installed for water and heating. Would I put this upstairs and how would it know how to differentiate from upstairs to downstairs?

no.
this is hive 2, I doubt it would be compatible to begin with.
secondly, you need a multizone system. the pipework is completely different.
if you don't have a multizone, or don't know if you have it or not... you don't have it
this product will not create a multizone system for you

How does Hive support a zonal heating system?
Hive Multizone will support up to 2 additional
heating zones as long as you have a zone valve
that the Hive receiver can control in your zonal
heating system.
What is a zone valve?
A zone valve is used to control the flow of
heating in a zonal system so you can heat
different parts of your home separately. For
example, when one zone needs heating , that
zone’s valves open and guide the hot water to
the radiators or in-floor pipes in that area. Ok I get it now

To British Gas it was. First one said you needed to be 'gas registered' for MZ rather than just an electrician. Next engineer came & was gas safety qualified but just dealt with electrics!! That's
big corporate bureaucracy for you...
Thanks for answering additional zones. Would be handy if I could get another so I'll check that out again

Hive multizone is no harder to fit. just one extra receiver and one extra room stat to fit. Same principle applies. Install always depends on current set up (stats/clocks/locations etc)
