That said if i wanted a pair of sunglasses to wear whilst riding my motorbike to my ski chalet where ice fishing is also available i'd probably buy.

Any advice for someone who needs these things to keep the wind out of his eyes while cycling but needs prescription glasses? Are there suitable lens inserts maybe or goggles that'd go over regular glasses?

I've been thinking about these, although haven't ordered a pair yet.
They come with a pair of frame inserts for glasses users, so you can take those to your optician and get them to add lenses.

I use these glasses for cycling with the prescription inserts. They are fine for keeping the breeze and insects / dust out, no problems. For the money, they perform surprisingly well. I got the glasses for the inserts from ciliary blue for £15. Ciliary blue are brilliant.
After a month or so I bought another pair of the same. So now I have a dark lens in one for brighter days and a plain lens in one for murky days so I don't have to fiddle with the lenses and waste time.

I have these as a cheap pair to have knocking around for when you forget your 'main' glasses or for a second car, they are perfectly fine for that but lets face it nobody is going to mistake them for a £200 pair of oakleys. I actually found myself leaving the yellow lenses in for night driving and found they do soften the headlight glare somewhat, although as OP mentions the yellows aren't polarised so somewhat limited in how useful they can be.
I found since having my eyes lasered my eyes are naturally more sensitive to light glare at night and these do help a little bit, but if anyone can recommend better night driving glasses i'd appreciate it...
