No, it's not just for benefits. You get one if you have a hearing impairment too, you just send in a copy of your book they give you that has your hearing aid details in it, it's called a 'brown book' at my hospital. Audiology told me about this 'perk' when I first had my aids.

Yes just send NHS proof you have a disability, like a copy of an NHS disability related card/book or a copy of your specialist/GP letter confirming your disability. If in any doubt give National rail a call and check what they will allow. I've had to call for someone before, they were really helpful.
