While these torches are indeed surprisingly bright compared to your average Sainsbury's incandescent, and cheap too, they are no where near 500 to 1000 lumens. Absolutely no chance. For one, a Cree XPE emitter is not even rated that high and so you're looking closer to 100-200 lumens (which is still good), it's doubtful the emitter is even Cree brand and most likely a cheap knock-off like Lattice Bright with an ugly cool white bluish tint, and lastly the beam distance will most likely have a usable distance of 10-20m and not the 50-100m rated.
With all of this being said, the torch is 2 quid and is good for what it is, in my opinion. It's just the claims are flat out lies, and I have an urge to let you know this.

There a clue in "Battery Type: 14500,AA".
But a word of caution : although this one will happily take a 3.7v 14500 battery, not all of them will. In many cases, putting a 14500 battery in a AA torch will result in a small puff of smoke from the electronics, and a paperweight instead of a torch. Or, if you're really unlucky, the battery might short out and enter a state of thermal runaway, colloquially known as "catching fire". Things that catch fire in small, sealed metal tubes can be nasty.

People relax It's just a cheap torch.
For the money these torches will be perfect for keeping in your car, bag, coat pocket, dog walking.
Although I don't own this very one, I have many LED torches like this, they are all very bright. The more they cost the brighter they seem to get, but even the £1.49 ebay ones are great. They will work on AA battery's or be even brighter by getting the self igniting rechargeable type from china (no I don't know what type they are do some research your self)
If you want one get one, if it's no good throw it away.

Looks like if your lucky, you get one that works. Loads of poor reviews with same problem as I had with gearbest.
Well. rechargeables have their price premiums, and kinda lose life per cycle.... and well, those eneloops are £16 for 8 on Amazon, compared to my dear Kodak ultras which are £16 for 96 at poundland - and they perform better than most batteries on the market.....
really good. got one a few months ago, i use the Kodak ultra AA batteries from poundland.. it eats away too quickly at other batteries, but all round great torch

Get yourself some Panasonic Eneloop rechargables - best battery on the market, they hold their charge when not used and last longer than other brands, and also have plenty of power.

What you are buying here people is the bulb - in this case a Cree XPE Q5.
The output will vary depending on the current provided. (i.e. not pound shop battery's).
This is not a fake LED is just a few years old and now sold off to factory's to produce bargain goods. As somebody else mentioned Ultrafire is a good budget brand of cree emitters.
Just because it's from China, doesn't mean they are trying to cheat you. In this case they are doing you a favor, as you will be provided with a torch that will outperform most torches available on the high street sub £10.
The bulb remains the same, its just the housing that's different. This is an older bulb, but the price reflects that. You could easily spend £15 and get yourself a very bright L.E.D torch. Or you could wait a couple of years and buy the same torch at these prices.

Got 3 of the ultrafire Q5 ones and they are great (available at around the same price on amazon). Very bright and the beam projects as far as most people will ever want/need. Certainly the best torch ive ever seen, and for a couple of quid its a gift. Build quality looks good too. If these were sold in a uk store im sure they would be upwards of a tenner.

Ordered 2 never came. they would not refund my money and had to get Paypal to intervene to get my money back. Also £2.11 is very expensive they can be got for 99p on ebay, and 1 week delivery from Hong Kong unlike the 4 weeks from gearbest

The torch claims to have an XP-E Q5 emitter. The maximum output in lumens from that emitter is 249 (you won't get that directly from the Cree datasheet but you can work it out).
Therefore, the claims are a crock of poo.

If you're after a decent flashlight I'd also recommend looking at thrunite's.
If money's no object then Energizer Ultimate Lithium are the best. 15-20 year life span, no leaks, holds maximum voltage for longer than alkaline or zinc (so torch stays bright for longer). If you're an infrequent torch user the battery will probably outlast the torch! They are about a fiver for a pack of four if you shop around.
These are brilliant for completely illuminating your dog's **** when he bends down for a ****, so you know where you need to pick up
