I know it's early, but for those who are going to a wedding that day, it's time to formulate your sick note.
On Saturday 3rd June 2017 the UEFA Champions League Final ( finalists yet to be decided) will be shown free on Freeview BT Sport Showcase @ 19:45 for those that can get the channel.
There have been many posts about BT Showcase in the past indicating some people are unfortunate not to have the channel available. I hope you are one of the lucky ones. All I have is a bog standard freeview capable TV and I can get it on channel 59.
And to those who have commented in the past, yes, I know technically it's not free as you have to own a TV and pay for electricity and a few cans of lager and pay for your partner to go to the pictures etc. etc..

normally answer would be no
you need Freview to get BT Showcase
one way to get it is via the NowTV Smart box, normally about £35 on offer with (say) 4 months of free Sky Cinema included - it has about 100 Freeview channels which are pumped down your terrestrial aeriel (not down the internet) so the picture is perfect and doesn't ever lag

With regards to Sky users. I'm a little confused still as this subject crops up on every BT Showcase post... If you have a TV capable of watching freeview channels, forget the Skybox, use the TV to watch the channel. Surely that would that work?

Only if you have a Freeview compatible aerial connected in/to to the room you want to watch the football in.
e.g. I have an aerial socket in the dining room which is good enough for Freeview, but not in the lounge or bedroom, which is where I watch Sky.

Same here. Don't have an aerial, only sky dish. I do remember watching a free champions league game on BT sport 2 on sky this season so just wondering if this one will be free too

Last year...
BT Sport will show the UEFA Champions League final free-to-air, having also done so for the UEFA Europa League final.
Absolutely anyone can watch the showpiece game on Freeview channel 59, on BT.com, on BTSport.com or via the BT Sport YouTube channel (youtube.com/btsportofficial).
The Madrid derby takes centre stage on Saturday, May 28th, as Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid compete for the most prestigious prize in club football.

As above, I only have Sky, so ended up using YouTube last year where this should also be broadcast live by BT
