Under a quid for a 10m CAT5e (Gigabit) cable delivered to your local Maplin store (pay online with click and collect). There are also 1m and 3m lengths for 90p available as well. You can use this crossover cable just like a patch cable to connect your PC / network device to your router.

Most modern devices are auto-sensing.

Sorry but I thought cross over was for connecting two of the same devices together for example PC to PC or Switch to Switch. If you used this between a PC and switch like a non-crossover then I think you would get abnormal issues. Your write-up explains a standard Ethernet cable

Crossover cables are not used anymore really. All standard nics can switch nowadays.

You have to choose collect from store (almost certainly oos) and there is then a button to pay online and collect from store on the right of the web page.

Worst case scenario I'll have to cut it open and crossover the crossover if it doesnt work, and make it back into an ethernet cable... 96p, cant complain though...

Not if it's PoE. These are almost certain to be CCA - nasty, brittle and high resistance.

Last two item I've done that withhave ended up out of stock. Something amiss with their inventory system.

Gigabit Ethernet has to be auto, it's in the standard.

What's in the standard is that auto speed and duplex must be used, but mdi-x is optional...

Wow learn something new every day  I apologise for my reply and thank you for the correction, does anyone know if there is a loss in performance that takes place for this?

Not flat and not Cat7.

Pray tell, under what circumstances do you consider CAT-7 necessary for short-run (10m) Gigabit Ethernet networking? Even CAT-6 is overkill unless you have to route your network cable tight against high powered electrical cables or RF sources (e.g. inside your microwave oven). I bet you buy gold plated HDMI cables too ;-) I do agree that flat cables can sometimes be useful though.

Is this any good to connect a router to a tv?

Only if you never move the router or the TV. As I've said, it'll be CCA which is brittle. Do some research if you are unsure.

Will be off to Maplins to get one, cheaper than 99p shop.
Cross-over is for pc to pc.
Straight-thru is for pc to router etc.
These cables are very easy to make yourself. You just need the crimp tool.
Used to do loads when did Cisco networking.

Don't think it is, I got a few and I've taken a section of one, stripped it down, taken out one of the cores, scraped it, chopped it and bent it - solid copper for sure.

Also, professional managed switches are a world apart from what's found in the home. If it's unmanaged it has to have all options enabled all the time.

Few months ago I ran a new 15m straight through patch cable for my brand new PC to a virgin superhub3 router. Did not work at all with new comp but seemed to work fine with 3 year old dell laptop.
After lots of head scratching/googling found that you need a crossover cable for longer runs. So cut one end off, rearranged to crossover configuration & bingo. Never had a problem since.
