Fair point, but everything I've read online has suggested that 2gb 1050 gets better fps than 2gb rx460, so cheaper yes, but I'm not sure if better?

I really have no idea if its better as so few review low end cards, but at this level not really sure either would be a good buy compared to say a 470/+ etc or in comparison to just using built in gfx .. only if you had splshed out on a new ryzen system. All the low end cards are being eaten up by improved IGPU's .. Im not really sure the VFM is there just to gain ???
The ryzens wit igpu and even the rumored intel + radeon IGPU might be better future bet, or even just the next step (1050ti)... ymmv ...

AMD are refreshing their graphics card range on Tuesday.
RX480 to RX580, RX470 to RX570, RX460 to RX560 and there is a new low end RX550.
The RX580/RX570 look likely to just be incrementally faster base clock versions as the 14nm fabrication process improves. The RX560 is the interesting one as it looks like its got higher base clocks plus extra cores compared to the RX460.
All are expected around the same launch price as the RX4xx series.

none atm, but the improvement of this card over igpu gets you ?? for this money you could afford an i5 instead of i3 or i7 instaed of i5.
incidentally why do am4 mobos have all those video outputs, ryzen has no igpu ?

Yes, currently the Intel HD 580 Iris Pro is the fastest IGP and it's still not even half this speed. HD 580 is also not available on desktop. Intel call the HD 580 config GT4e and according to this: https://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=117799
Its die size is 234mm² with ~71% of that being GPU which is about 168mm². GP107 as used in this GTX 1050 is 132mm² on TSMC's 16nm FF which should be less dense than Intel's 14nm. Obviously memory bandwidth plays a big role (and the EDRAM is separate on the package at another 84mm²), and with something as parallel as a GPU it is possible to go slow and wide (although HD580 still runs at upto 1150MHz).
But basically, Intel do those Iris Pros because they fell they have to, but their area/perf is rather poor and probably doesn't make the margins Intel are used to (which explains why they haven't felt the need to have any more desktop parts since Broadwell even though Broadwell unlocked 'C' parts regular do very well in benchmarks).
The fastest AMD would be something like what's on the A12-9800 which is OEM only AM4 Excavator processor and is only about half the speed of the Intel HD 580 so roughly a quarter the speed of this.
ZEN APUs are going to be AM4 too. The mobile ones are expected later in the year, desktop AM4 later.
What is a better question is: why do some high-end AM4 not have video outputs? Are buyers of the Asus Crosshair, ASRock Taichi or Fatal1ty so sure they will never want or need to use any future APUs that they are willing to give up the flexibility. Those three are all £200+ boards too.

I was looking for a 1050 for a budget build and set £100 as my limit, so this was ideal for what I wanted.
