In my experience some of the cheapest tyres are the strongest and most hard wearing but also the heaviest. I was disappointed with some Schwalbe tyres which may have had good grip and been light but were expensive and short life so avoid the brand now. Some of the cheaper tyres actually have the steel reinforcing of the walls which is really good. I'm a heavy rider so have a different outlook to riders who are more concerned with weight.

Halfords have been selling some contis in a 26" for a fiver recently, very good they are too :stuck_out_tongue:

Looking at the tread pattern definatly not a tyre for nipping to the shops., good buy for next winter.

Yeah, ??? unless your nipping to the shops means riding through soft mud of course , large nobbles & small contact area in corners riding tarmac or concrete.= pain in the rain.

Lower the pressure then. If you're only popping to the shops etc its not going to be far no? or maybe having a MTB or off road tyres aren't the way to go.

Yes I realise that I understand the theory and its been my experience in practice too generally. However for me the denser, heavier tyres actually seem to hold their shape better so sometimes can seem safer compared to very light tyres. Also the low profile tyres with low rolling resistance have less surface in contact with the road so can offer less grip despite the more grippy rubber.
