All av amps have a "music mode" which is basically stereo - it's the best way to listen to MUSIC. So 2.0 or 2.1 if you have a subwoofer. You can of course use 5.1 anytime you wish. Just typically, 2.0 or 2.1 is best for music to most people. But yes if you want, you can use 5.1 - if you have enough speakers. I don't know about equalizers that much as I've never had use of one. If you have the celestion f3, they are floorstand speakers, get a subwoofer like this...

with the amp - set it up and tell it you have a subwoofer (set your speakers to small remember) and you're golden.. plenty of bass. You seem like you should know more about this stuff than you do if you've been changing speakers in cabinets... if you want more information I can try and answer your questions but you are probably best going into richer sounds yourself and talking to the people there, in my experience they are always friendly and helpful.[/quote]

At the moment I have 2 tower speakers (Celestion F3) but I replaced the speakers myself. Each box has a 5" speaker, 5" woofer. and a tweeter. Current setup only has good volume but not so good bass. In stereo mode? does it mean it won't have the 5.1 sound? I also have an old 10 band equaliser, but does not have any big effect.

There will be AV input and sound level knobs on the amp, I don't see a particular need to have more, the remote can do quite a bit. Changing to this amp to get an increase in Bass probably won't do what you are after, the system will have some setup options for speaker assignment and size, but what you probably need is a subwoofer. This will plug into the amp and give you the bass you require. There are EQ settings on the AMP as well, I find most of them useless, your mileage may vary, above all, it depends what speaker setup you currently have, crappy speakers and a £10,000 amp won't make them sound any better.

For music specifically, you'll want to set the amp to Stereo - regardless of your speaker setup, with a woofer, the sound will come out your left and right speakers and the bass part on your woofer. One thing to check in the menus of this amp is the "crossover frequency" this tells the amp at what sound frequency to send those signals to your woofer, instead of to your speakers. Always set your speakers to "small" when using a woofer.

Hope this helps. the TL:DR is if you want bass, get a subwoofer. Or tell me what speakers you currently have.

I not only listened to an RX-V1067 receiver, but I owned one for quite a while on an old system. no complaints, just needed more power for bigger speakers, great sound actually.. not a massive difference in output imo on my more expensive amp; not for the money spent, I'm guessing you already know twice the money doesn't mean twice the sound. For the price point, I think you're getting a decent amp for a small system. I'd rather spend the extra on better speakers, but it's just subjective opinion isn't it, you have yours I have mine, no one is wrong or right - just make sure you have a listen before you buy, if you can get a demo, RS usually are quite accommodating.

I guess my point is yes - spend more you'll get something better but this won't be terrible at the price.

Bought this off amazon for £219 a month or so ago. Been really impressed with it. Already had a yamaha RX-V577 but couldnt get 4K streaming through it, and sold that on to fund this.

This was the same receiver as their Christmas VIP offer I think.

Am tempted to go for it but would only gain the direct HDMI in over my existing setup. At the moment all HDMI goes to the TV then optical out from there to my receiver.

Have you heard this AV receiver? Just wondering. I know higher end ones do, but this? The Aventage range is great.
Example. The elite Pioneer range sounds great. But the VSX, ugh, nowhere near as good.

An extra £70 gets you a AV Rec with Dolby Atmos. Much better sound quality.
