I think the Note 4X naming is only for regions that have the Mediatek Note 4. The Indian version is also known as just Note 4 but is Snapdragon. There appears to be 4 different versions of the Note 4 with identical hardware (SD625) but with different band coverage.
China Note 4X (no B20) Taiwan Note 4X (has B20) India Note 4 (no B20)
and the one in this deal which I'm guessing is Indonesia version and is named Note 4 with SD625 like India version but has B20 like Taiwan Note 4X.
Taiwan and China have the Mediatek Note 4 so I assume they called the Snapdragon version as Note 4X to differentiate the 2. India and Indonesia don't have the MTK Note 4 so their Note 4 is SD only and not named 4X.

Thanks, finally gone with Dreami for the grey one with black panels on the front. Used Revolut card to get good exchange rate and via topcashback for another £10 off. Bought three phones in total from China before for the kids, 2 no fees, one was picked up by customs . At the end of the day these are a bargain. Had been thinking of a Mate 9 or the 10 plus but this is so much cheaper couldn't really justify the significant difference in cost i.e. £400/£500 cheaper. Dual SIM will be great for getting rid of the crap work phone. Losing the SD card slot is no real pain as everything is in the cloud anyway now.

All devices with batteries are potentially dangerous.
I believe the reason people are worried about 'cheap Chinese tat' is because consumers keep buying it and suffering failure and injury(usb chargers 'exploding'). The dangerous tat that is produced in China is produced because cheapskates keep buying it. Xiaomi is not part of this market.

You definitely won't get a good camera on a £100 phone - they have cut costs somewhere to bring it within this pricepoint and the profit margins on these phones are already wafer thin. The cameras on the 3 and 4 are 'okay' in good lighting but no more than that. iPhone 6 and Galaxy S7 are on a different level entirely (though those are £600+ phones). Personally, I'm not too fussed - I'd rather spend £100 on a phone like this and use the saving to buy a 'proper' compact camera which will be superior to the iPhone/S7 snapper. Still, each to their own...
It's a terrific phone for the price. I really like MIUI 8 as well (I have the Redmi Note 3).
If I had to quibble, I wish it was a fraction thinner and had a better camera module but then that's a bit churlish given the price.

I don't think it's anything to do with privilege. Xiaomi just have different models tailored for a specific region. Most Aliexpress sellers are based in China and are likely sourcing their stock from local supplier which will be a Chinese variant with no B20. The stores that offer B20 variants are probably just ones that don't operate out of China only and have a wider network where they're able to get stock for different models so I wouldn't say it's a case of the Chinese thinking we're not privileged enough to get their better models.

Guys, can you recommend a comparison website, or better still, is there a site where you can put in what you want from a phone and it makes suggestions?
I have a Nokia Lumia 925 which I love the camera on. I'm also not that fussed on going bigger. I'd like better battery and I use it for email, basic web browsing, info on the move (trip advisor, weather, trains) - no real gaming or heavy ap usage.
The camera and battery is important to me. But, I'd like to go back to android. And not spend more than about £100. And not get a contract. And keep it at 5" or less.
If you don't want to take any risks, (From what you've said, sounds like you like to play it safe,) consider the P8 Lite from Vodafone for £150. You may have to pay £15 to get it unlocked but if you have a problem, you have a shop to take it back to.

The Redmi Note 4X Taiwan release has B20 and is Snapdragon. However this listing says Redmi Note 4 on the box. I have a feeling it may be the Indonesian SD model. Unboxing video here, showing the same packaging as shown in the Aliexpress listing. "Global Version" sticker at the side and CE1317 certification. The India Redmi Note 4 has a "Made in India" mark at the back and no "Global Version" sticker. No info on the Indonesian MI site, however the page for their Redmi 4A version supports the same bands (incl. B20) so this model is likely an Indonesian version that is named Redmi Note 4 like the Indian variant, but supports the same bands as the Taiwan Note 4X.

Besides, if you read today's news, the CIA in conjunction with GCHQ have been installing spyware on TVs, phones, and millions of other devices for many years now....
I've been told there is no option to set UK as your region in this phone and also concerned that spyware could be embedded in the software by the seller not Xiaomi. Do I have any reason to worry?
I agree it's a good looking phone with great spec though but with this problem I am not too sure if I am going to keep it.
Is it just me ?

No black or grey though - only gold... :disappointed:
Going to wait for the other colours but will still give this deal a HOT.
probably worse screen on note 4 (non amoled)
lower battery life on note 4 but still good.
worse camera on note 4 i assume?
any comments?
any other sites people would recommend, I'm keeping an eye on Geekbuying/Ali/Flosmal see what offers come up
I have a Nokia Lumia 925 which I love the camera on.
Am I better sticking for the time-being?
Wish they made the MI models with band 20. Obviously the Chinese think either we are not privileged enough to get their better models or we are too skinflint.
Also likely to get better aftermarket support
Note 4 has a better screen and battery
Both have mediocre cameras
Both have the same fingerprint scanner
Redmi Note 4 is more premium, unibody metal
If you want insane battery, get the Note 4
If you want better performance and custom roms, get the Note 3
Both are very good
Love the phone but not without its little frustrations.
So frustrating that they have so many versions of phones without any real clarity of what phone you're actually getting.
better battery life
likely to receive more software updates
day to day usage will be comparable performance wise
slower GPU so won't be as good for gaming, sure it'll be ok though unless wanting to play high end games.
Any recommendations for a decent phone I could pick up at around £150?
