You're only hurting yourself really. Besides, you're likely wasting cash in other areas which negates what you're trying to save here - and you're also adding a wait time to your gameplay. Sure, you can play one of your 600 other games - but they aren't this one.

I'm with those who are struggling to see those recommending buying a Wii U for BOTW. Yes, don't get a Switch if you've got a Wii U but to suggest to those who have neither to buy a console that is now last Gen for 150-200 is ridiculous.

Buying a second hand Wii-U for BOTW is the only way to go right now. You get to enjoy all the great exclusive games and, most importantly, BOTW. You can sell it on when you are ready for the Switch and recoup most of your money. I'm just glad i bought mine 3 years ago and got to experience a great little console. BOTW is the cherry on the top and will make it a very easy to sell later on in the year.
Anyway, buying a Switch for BOTW is NOT the way to go. It might feel good but you are overspending by a large margin. The time to jump on the Switch bandwagon is when it drops in price, much like i did with the Wii-U.

Breath of the Wild is worth paying £300+ for, IMO. But you're not paying just for Zelda. There's also Specter of Torment, Fast RMX and Snipperclips - three amazing smaller games which are exclusive to Switch (for the time being). And then before Mario Odyssey at Christmas you have Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Xenoblade 2, Skyrim, Fire Emblem Heroes, and a stack of indie games. So there's plenty of content, but none of that can bring across the pleasure of using this thing. It's a beautiful piece of tech.

I'm not sure they're going to make a new cartridge just for some DLC. Honestly the game game is fully complete as it is, a cave of trials in the summer and a new bit of separate story and dungeon 'Winter 17' are not going to change your experience and you can do without them.

Unfortunatly for Nintendo i have one simple rule in gaming, if a game comes with a season pass, DLC, microtransactions, i don't touch it until i can get the whole thing in either a GOTY or on massive sale, i don't support and never will, paying for a game in bits, but that has never stopped me playing said games, it just means i wait and get them for a fraction of the price at some point later down the line.
But i will enjoy it at some point in the future when the new redesigned Switch is launched with a BOTW deluxe console bundle for a fraction of what they are asking at present.

I didn't know the Wii U was still that expensive but I still stand by that if you have a Wii U, don't buy a Switch for Zelda. I don't recommend getting a Switch yet at all, unless you're willing to put it away for months for the next decent game to come out or you truly have no other consoles or a PC. 3rd party multi-console games are a lot more expensive on Switch than PS4/Xone and PC. As for the Wii U being a 'dead console', it has more first-rate exclusive games than the Xone, PS4 and Switch put together so it's worth investigating at some point if you haven't.

I bought it for the wii u. Runs great. There's a lot of comparison vids on youtube which show it to be a similar experience graphically across the two consoles. You do get some frame drops in big areas on the wii u but it's nothing to ruin your experience.

I have and do a bit, but I think it's more withdrawal from the new console period.
I miss spending most of my spare time playing any game, and a new console launch is an excuse to do it.
As for the game itself I had a very similar feeling playing it that I did with Far Cry 4, so if anything i'd say it's a bit overhyped especially the open world aspects.
The shrines are great though, best part of the game and some of the best puzzle rooms in Zelda. Dungeons are short and disappointing, bosses are the worst in the series.

I'm 30+ hours in and haven't even attempted the first dungeon/divine beast yet. I've got there but decided to go and do some more side quests instead :-)

I personally loved Ocarina on the N64 and haven't enjoyed another Zelda game as much since...until now! This game brings back all of the emotions of 14 year old me and has the same kinds of puzzles/character but with the added joy of open world and freedom to explore (and by god, there is so much space to explore!).
I'm loving Zelda once again. This game is awesome.

15 Mar 17#45
No it does, but I think these guys mean you can take it further away/out of the house etc. The wii u struggles if you take it into a room too far away from the console, for example. But you can play it on the gamepad just fine if it's within range to receive a signal.

15 Mar 171#44
I finished it and was quite disappointed with the main story and quests. They were epic, just not twistingly epic enough
But I still have an absolute tonne of stuff to do and have started to enjoy exploring more than I did, mainly because I don't have the nagging impulse to find out what's gonna happen. I took a journey to a new zone last night and spent the entire evening running around there doing stuff.
It doesn't have to be over when you finish
However, I'm not buying this expansion pass. Once I'm done with the base game I'm getting rid of the console (wii u)

I mean.. The Switch literally only has 2 games worth playing right now that are original to the system past the Wiiu, Snipperclips, and Zelda. It's such a good game you have to play it somehow. If you don't have a Wii U then yes, maybe? Though buying a cheap Wii U would be a more sensible option if you're just going to play at home because that has a ton of fantastic exclusive games and the only exclusive for now that the Switch has is Snipperclips. If you do have a Wii U, just get it on that because it's identical.

I took it to my in-laws last night to show her brother, etc. When waiting for dinner I literally put it in table top mode and carried on from where I saved it at home.

Totally worth getting a Switch just for Zelda, I haven't gamed on my Xbox One since getting it, despite the fact that up to the launch of the Switch I was putting in serious time on Skyrim. I can't remember the last time I was as immersed in a game as I am in Zelda. There is so much to do, such a big world to explore, and you can approach it all however you want. I also bought Snipperclips which is well worth £15 of anyone's money. As someone who is yet to play Shovel Knight, that will be my next purchase, along with Fast RMX. Whilst there is criticism regarding the lack of launch games for the Switch, the fact that Zelda is one of them not only means you'll not be short of stuff to play (I can't stress enough how large the game world is), but that it has (in my mind) the best launch title of all time. As a few people have said already, the Switch is a game changer.

I cannot stress enough how wonderful the Switch is going from TV to handheld mode. I can pull the thing out of the dock, go to the crapper, and be playing again within five seconds. I've waited my entire gaming life for something like this.
Quite a game though!
I'm loving Zelda once again. This game is awesome.
:stuck_out_tongue:
Got the Switch with Zelda last week. No regrets.
Besides, said Switch investment will not just be for Zelda alone. Many games are already announced due this year, retail, indie and the like.
I'd recommend the game for switch but get for Wii U version if you have one already.
If you really want to play Zelda on the move, get the Switch.
If you're happy playing it on a TV, Wii U is fine.
I tried playing on the Wii U pad and found it too small for such a big game.
Nice find OP
I don't want to lock myself in the bedroom when the wife wants to watch a bit of tv so bringing this downstairs to sit with her is great.
I took it to my in-laws last night to show her brother, etc. When waiting for dinner I literally put it in table top mode and carried on from where I saved it at home.
Was on the train back from London last week and the guy in the seat in front was reading a Switch article. When he walked past me to go to the toilet he did a double take when I was sat back with the joycons out playing Zelda.
Excellent bit of kit.
It's pretty small right?
He was spamming multiple threads :man:
