Takes a 200gb Microsdxc though so capacity is no problem.

Do these go louder than a Samsung s6 phone. I have paid 190 for bose headphones that I love. But I don't think my phone is best for them. many thanks.

How loud do you think you need a personal media player and a pair of headphones to go? By the way I don't know what pair of Bose headphones you are using but on my QC15's you can pull the cable out from the headpiece and slide the switch from 'Lo' to 'Hi' volume level. Perhaps you have a pair that is set on 'Lo' and you haven't realised? But seriously, loud volumes aren't so great for your ears, either in the short or long term.

Do high res audio players sound a lot better than CD? Also where do you purchase your music in high res from? I've been transfering CDs to iTunes for years. :smiley:

It's debatable. Most people can't even distinguish between 320kbps MP3 and CD quality and those who can need to really concentrate on the music to notice.

I was thinking of purchasing this a long time ago, but the volume limit put me off. Shame as i think its designed really well. I will stick with the superior NWZ-A818.

There's a hack to beat the volume limit on Sony players available now.
You can switch it off under AVLS in Common Settings. However, always worth using an amp anyway.

Thanks. My iTunes audio rips seems to be around 44.1 khz (sample rate) and between 256 and 320 kbps (bitrate). I play iTunes through my iPod.
If I ripped my CDs to iTunes on the highest setting, would there be a notable uplift in audio quality via this player vs my iPod? Many thanks!

Kind of interested in what setup you think allows you to hear how Hi-Res is better than CD as the ones I have auditioned tells me otherwise.

I switched from my iPod Classic to this and added a microsd card to it. Volume level is high enough for me and believe with a update/settings change it can be upped.
Loads easier to put music onto it then having to use awful iTunes.
You obviously have to have the high res music to benefit for this function. Loads of software and sites out that that can rip/buy high res quality
John Lewis had it on clearance for £99.95 but no idea when the offer was running. Actually the reviews indicate it was Feb/March 2017. The ability to order is greyed out so must have been an old deal.
I have an iPod I would like to replace within something non apple. This looks like an interesting piece of kit. I used to have a walkman minidisc and loved it.

I would suggest you rip CDs to flac if likely to buy something non apple in the future. Or apple lossless if sticking only with apple stuff..

Funny that, I blind tested the Sony NWZ-ZX1 , AK Jr, AK 240, Cowon P1 and Onkyo DP-X1 with various IEMs/ headphones and couldn't hear the supposed x7 more detail compared to CD, but if you can then good on you.

That's an interesting test. I'd like to test my hearing like that:)
While hi-res audio does make a difference in my experience using my home setup I can't imagine a portable setup could match that.
Ambient noise would cancel out all the nuances I imagine.
As for a player itself it does make sense if you have a decent pair of headphones that only shine with good amplification. Decent DAC is another great feature. But for most people iPod classic will be more than enough.

I didn't realise it could go up to 200GB. I bought this almost 2 years ago with a 128GB card, which I've almost filled, and was sure it said 128GB was the max. So does yours work fine with the 200GB then?

From my own personal experience owning Sony NWZ-ZX1 and £300+ IEMs and headphones there is no noticeable difference between high-res and regular lossless. However there is a noticeable difference in some high-res releases of older albums, sometimes extremely noticeable. However this is because they remastered it for high-res which improved the quality, when I converted them down to regular lossless they still sounded the same and same improvement over original release.

Try the Cowon Plenue D. I use it with my SE846 and to my ears it is audio heaven.
