They're doing this to everyone. You are due a pro-rata refund as the moderator of the BT forum (who represents BT itself) has stated:

It works, but it's very basic.

Cracking deal, should be hotter. Ideal for those who get a decent speed and don't require fibre speeds. Would have been perfect for my inlaws if they weren't already with sky. Can also add unlimited calls for £8 a month. I'm amazed some people are voting cold because of the speed at this price! Worth having even if you don't use broadband for line only. Worth noting though, if your line speed is less than 2MB sky will refuse you as a customer.

SKY don't give you the logon details needed to use your own router, hence you are stuck with theirs.
It isn't great, I agree, wifi range is poor.
You can extract the logon details if you are technically minded. There are sites which tell you how to do this.
It's not for the average user. Better to get a range extended if the wifi is not good enough.

There is, or at least used to be a way of using hh5 on sky. It is against sky's T&C's though and they say they can terminate your service for using an unauthorised router. To be fair I've been with sky for a year and didn't notice any difference from the HH5 in use, although there is a big difference on paper.

I ordered this deal, got a connection date for 17 march...now my current provider, BT, emailed me to say they will charge me £55 for their router as lam leaving before the end of my contract (end date is 22 march). so for 5 days they are going to hammer me. I called sky and they can't change the date...damn it ...Any idea on how to sort out this mess? I tried to get another sky code with another email but failed as it says one code per household
chalk to sam1970
3 Mar 17 #43
May be worth checking the date the order was accepted. There's another thread here of the same problem

http://www.hotukdeals.com/ask/bt-termination-charges-2609306

The terms say 12 months after order acceptance for the equipment and 12 months from activation for the service.

So you might still be in contract for the service by a few days but ok with regard to the router hopefully.

==========

Deferred Payment for Equipment

In some cases we will allow you to defer payment of the full price of the equipment we supply for use with the service. If you then end the service within 12 months of BT accepting your order and you did not pay the full price of that equipment when you placed your order, then you will be liable to pay the balance – that is the price of the equipment as set out in the Tariff Guide, less any amount which you paid upfront when you placed your order, unless you end the service within the cancellation period (as detailed in paragraph 10 of the Residential Standard Terms). The deferred payment is no longer payable after you have received service for 12 months or more from the date that your order was accepted by BT.
Dm38 to sam1970
4 Mar 17 #62
Cancel the current sky order, tell BT you are not leaving, staying with them until 22 MAR, Then re-order the Sky BB 5/6 days later or until you get an activation date after 22nd. Try a different home address as well as email address.
jordanc93 to sam1970
4 Mar 17 1 #75
Unfortunately BT are able to do this as it is set out in the terms and conditions you agreed to, essentially they delay payment for the router for 12 months and if you stay with them for more than 12 months they wave the costs of the router. If you have been in contract for less than 12 months then their terms and conditions say the can charge you up to £65 depending on the router model. Can sky not change the date at all? perhaps explain to them that if they are unable to change it to a later date you will have to cancel with them and stay with BT due to the charge. Im sure sky won't want to lose a new customer. They can definatley change and select certain dates for installation with openreach as when I moved house plusnet booked the date I wanted for installation 3 weeks in advance.
bestestbud85 to sam1970
4 Mar 17 1 #77

Currently paying £15 per month with Sky just for broadband (thanks in part to the price hike). They use to offer good incentives to renew but have changed their tune lately and forcing through offers to tie me up with Sky Talk and/or Sky TV or telling me to look elsewhere.

Gaming on a ASDL 2+ line is woeful as they cap upload speed to 0.8MB (used to be 1MB) and they have the nerve to say there's no competition in my area (they're wrong) so I'm free to leave (I learnt loyalty is a silly thing if you're a consumer). Plusnet or BT would be economically better so I'll probably move as soon as the time is right.

Good deal for new customers though. :smirk:

All providers class the start of the contract period as being from the day the service was activated. You might well have ordered the service on 8/3/16 however the terms and conditions you agreed to state your minimum contract period starts on the day your service is activated. Your best option like I have put in my previous post is to tell sky to change the appointment with openreach which they can do or you'll cancel the sky order and stay with BT.

Clearly the BT t&c about the equipment states 12 months from accepting order, not activation. Incidentally their 14 days cooling off period also starts on the order acceptance date. Sky c/s said I can pay the £55 and they will refund it but Iam concerned as it can be a long process and their t&c states that you have to order over the phone to be able to claim a refund of termination charges from other providers...And clearly this deal is an online order. Iam sorry to bother you all on this deal with my problem with BT but Iam really very angry about it

Its worth ordering for your mother, just add 'anytime' calls to your package, which is 8 quid a month, basically I signed my folks up to the MSE £12 Sky offer in January, this is a better deal and includes £50 quid cash back from Sky, our £50 cutback came from TCB, my total package works out £20 per month, whilst this works out about £15 a month with anytime calls, maybe less.
MynameisM to Uridium
4 Mar 17 #143
well depends on how much she uses but hardly the same cost is it almost half. 65 vs 126. ok u get some extra mins but will she be using more than 1 2gb data. 150 mins are probably worth around 2-3 quid.
Anon32 to Uridium
6 Mar 17 #242
BT Basic means you do not have to change every year! My mum finds these things very confusing and i agree they are sly all providers! Use BT basic yes its limited to 12gb a month but how much will your mother use? Also basic has a cap of £10 for calls! My mum used £43 of calls and it was discounted by £33 obviously there is a fair use policy so if you use £500 calls they will probably move you to the normal line rental package! If your mother uses line rental only then at £5.10 a month it's a bargain! You can pay quarterly and have paper bills at no extra cost!
sam1970
4 Mar 17 #94
OK... Contacted sky and they can't change the installation date as it has to be 14 days from order date(strange!). They suggested I cancel the order and reorder on 8/3 to guarantee installation after BT contract ended. I cancelled the sky contract but the problem is how to get another code? The system says one code per household and it recognises that I had a code before...As for selling the BT router on eBay, there are loads on eBay which are not selling even for £5...Damn BT

Same here. BT have told me twice over the phone they'll refund the LRS but won't put it in writing! I've emailed them now and await their response. If you read around you'll see that BT generally don't repay the remainder of the LRS unless you kick up a fuss. BT have offered me £5 a month BB/line rental, and a free EE/BT sim card for a year with minutes, texts and data to stay with them.

P.S. I just realised that even though the LRS charge doesn't change, which is no doubt why they'd argue you can't get a refund, the call charges are changing, so that's a change of terms of contract and that's how you'd argue the partial refund of the LRS.

Everything/all data goes through the Sky Shield filter, even if its switched off by the customer.
There is no complete opt-out, as such. i.e any website that would trigger the shield filter is still flagged/monitored as such, but allowed to pass the filter where the customer has set that option.
Theresa May's Investigatory Powers Bill is just as controversial/invasive, in terms of Privacy, if not more so, due to the sheer number of organisations that can have access to your Internet data, pretty much on a whim. Food Standards Agency being one.

Some very un-democratic methods being used to implement the monitoring too. It's about targeting the 'pinch points' in the UK internet ISP members linx network, a good investigatory article in theregister.co.uk on it, how its being done, (so no one knows its being done)
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/02/17/linx_snoopers_charger_gagging_order/
I'm not making judgement either way, I'm just telling you how its being implemented.

(So please, people don't start posting "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear"...clap trap).

Any Business that develops/works with Intellectual Property has an awful lot to fear.

Today after seeing the Sky deal I called to cancel and then they offered me the same deal but at £18.75 per month with first 3 months free. I did not take that because I was worried that this will mean the Quidco cashback will be rejected. However now Sky would not allow me to accept this deal as I already have Sky TV. 4 Mar 17 #165
You need to use the term 'migration', speak to Plusnet, and say you want to migrate your broadband from Plus.net to Sky, what are the charges I am due. Otherwise, they will do a cease, and reprovide, which incurs a fee. ISPs use every trick in the book to prevent a migration.

You no longer need to contact your existing provider before migrating your Broadband to another provider, but it's worth finding out if you are part-way through an existing lock-in contract, which would incur exit fees (to pay yourself out), with the leaving ISP.

Derek_Duval
4 Mar 17 #180
When would I have a cessation fee?
You'd only need to pay the charge if the broadband service is being taken off your phone line. Typical reasons for this are:

the phone line that your broadband's on has been cut off
you cancel your broadband account without switching to another provider
you switch to a provider who uses their own network (like a cable provider)
you move to a provider who uses their own equipment in your exchange (often called Local Loop Unbundling)

Unfortunately sky use LLU in most exchanges, hence the charge. Only Plusnet and BT charge this, daylight robbery!

As said, if you migrate (the wording to use) your broadband from Plus.net to Sky, there should be no cessation charge, whether its LLU or not. Ofcom changed the rules from the 20/06/2015.
https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/advice-for-consumers/costs-and-billing/switching/switching-broadband-provider

Not sure if you are trying to scare plus.net customers from switching, but as far as I can see plus.net shouldn't be telling you this, cessation and re-supply fees should only apply between when switching between BT to Virgin Media Cable Services since June 2015.

As said, the ofcom June 2015 rules also mean you no longer need to contact your existing provider before migrating your Broadband to another provider. Sky will migrate everything for you.
But as an additional check you can also check if cessation charges apply to your exchange.
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband-cease-charge/

Sky will initiate a Migration, its only cease and resupply (VM cable order) would generate a cessation fee. To quote plus.net:
If the gaining provider places the orders and the cease code is W or P then they are the ones we charge for.

Transfers/Migrations to Sky LLU are not charged for, from the table.

So close, and yet so far. No Sky for me. Went through all the sign up process for nought. Had to phone them in the end, only to find out because of good old Ofcom, Sky can't supply me any broadband. Apparently, the new lower limit in their charter is 4gbps and because I get less - no deal.

I thought I was in with a shot when the level was originally only 2mbps. I get about 3.5, and talking with the rep it may mean that any new provider that's signed up to the 'voluntary' charter won't touch me now. So, in Ofcom's wisdom of trying to get better deals for bb customers, they've shot me in the foot as I'm either stuck with my current provider or forced to upgrade to a more expensive 'fibre' package. Which, in my mind is the point of the whole excercise. Another Government guided initiative to push people onto new technology. As I told the rep: I don't need fibre, I don't want fibre and I can't afford fibre presently. I'm not sure why others need super fast speeds but my meagre 3.5mbps did all I needed it to do.

Whine over! :-)

Thanks Ofcom.

The whole point of the June 2015 Ofcom changes was that seemless migrations (where the same copper pair is used) between BT Wholesale Services (WLR + SMPF) to LLU (local loop unbundling) within BT exchanges (MPF) were meant to be seamless / cessation fee free. There is a slim possibility that the plus.net service (due historical acquistions/mergers) you have is LLU not BT i.e. LLU (MPF) to LLU (MPF).

It's worth asking Sky what type of migration is being carried out, just to confirm: MPF / WLR+SMPF. Depends on the exchange it seems, i.e. Is it MPF (LLU) or WLR+SMPF (Wholesale Line Rental)+(Shared Metallic Path faclity). Cessation / Resupply charges can occur when the service taken is switched i.e you went from ADSL to VM Cable/BT FTTP. ADSL to ADSL LLU, ADSL to FTTC should be a seemless migration because the same copper is being used.

MPF / SMPF, WLR - Wholesale Line Rental Acronyms:
Metallic Path facility (MPF) enables you to offer both voice and broadband services. It provides a two-wire metallic transmission path between the Network Terminating Equipment (NTE) at a customer’s premises and a main distribution or jumper frame at the exchange. We can also provide floor space, power, cooling and connectivity (internal/external tie cabling and backhauling of data from an exchange to a core network) depending on your needs.

Shared Metallic Path Facility (SMPF) enables you to offer broadband services over the copper network. This means you can provide a broadband service to your customer while another communications provider supplies voice services on the same line – hence it being “shared”. SMPF provides a two-wire metallic transmission path between the Network Terminating Equipment at a customer’s premises and a main distribution or jumper frame at the exchange.

Also worth looking at:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/guide/migration.html

My understanding is you shouldn't be charged this. The method used should be Gaining Provider Led (GPL). i.e all done through Sky.
Note:The old provider (plus.net here) is NOT allowed to make you a deal to stay with them or contact you to tempt you to stay. If you are trying to use the threat of leaving to get a better broadband/phone price you need to pro-actively chase the provider yourself before initiating the migration now.
I'd contract ofcom if you can't resolve this.
Make sure the switching process is done via Sky (in this case), and never use the wording "I'm phoning to cancel my plus.net Broadband" with plus.net, only ever use the term migration. "I'm phoning to let you know I'm thinking of migrating my broadband to another ISP, can you offer a better price". The reason, they will list the full charges for cancelling the service, rather than the fact it should be free and easy to migrate services between providers.

Hope that helps.

5 Mar 17 #202
It also means reconnection of a current physical 'inactive' line with no service on it. Connection can also apply to a new physical install or first time line activation at a new property or as me a redundant line needing reconnected to BT local exchange/street cabinet - Sky's own website is not even clear of all scenarios, just a fleeting mention http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/setup-installation/

Defo, I edited my post^ but you replied first lol

Even the T&C on the link I posted make no mention of situation, seems a default £20 whatever the situation- which is great for new line installation customers with no previous connection to BT cabinet/exchange which is £130 with BT unless you take a call plan & broadband then the waive the fee.

So everyone pays £20 which is fair enough in my book, £130 for a line install/reactivation/connection of new homes, LOL at BT - do old grannies moving to new homes really have to pay £130 for line only ? Much cheaper taking Sky and never using the broadband until the first 12 months are up

Sky terms:

"Sky Talk: 12 or 18 month minimum term applies to new Sky Talk customers and to existing customers taking up Sky Line Rental. Compatible line required otherwise £20 connection charge may apply. Sky Talk is only available to customers paying by Direct Debit/continuous credit card mandate. Calls only packages not available to BT line rental customers with BT Basics or if outgoing calls are barred. Sky Line Rental required (£18.99 per month). On a previous signup I do not recall Sky requesting permission to access credit file. Card charge more likely to be simple ID verification and potential backup funds source as vague recollection of requirement to accept card being charged with any outstanding charges if usual monthly payment method failed. Maybe an existing ll&bb-only customer (not Sky TV / other services customer) can confirm if monthly payment performance is being reported to credit reference agencies and appears on credit file?

https://community.bt.com/t5/Bills-Packages/BT-price-changes-April-and-August/td-p/1709458/highlight/false/page/18 the last post says you get it back.

Also, if you are leaving bT because of the price increases in April, you don't need to send back the equipment, and if you also have a BT mobile sim with the £5 discount, you will still get the discount for the rest of the 12 month sim contract even though you have left BT.

Its the surname that flags. Just make a name up and use a different payment card (you need to use the correct name for that or it will fail verification, and tick the 'someone elses card' box), they don't actually credit check, as long as the initial £5 goes through ok they will install. Direct debit details can be the same as they aren't checked either. Email address must be different.

For me it was the address as a old Sky TV customer/closed account from 12 months ago, I just put 'B' on my address with my other email address. I actually have £11odd credit on my closed Sky account, must get that refunded.

Can confirm card payment £5 deposit (or £25 with £20 fee) I have paid a few peoples who are transferring across to Sky on debit/credit cards of mine as it saved time writing down their card details over the phone to complete their order and they just sent me the cash Direct Payment from their banking app.
jordanc93
7 Mar 17 #262
Having looked at the link they must have recently changed the scheme as when I looked into it a year ago you used to get around £5 in credit to use towards making phone calls but the new £10 a month cap is much better. I believe from what I've read they constantly monitor your usage and advise you if your using too much. They also take into account your current phone usage if you are already a BT customer in terms of whether you eligible and from what I recall you can't get BT basic if you have a mobile phone and use more than £10 a month mobile credit.
seaniboy
7 Mar 17 #264
The mobile phone was then excluded, people on BT Low User Scheme/Basic customers were some of the most vulnerable people who would need a mobile outdoors - unless they have changed it back to the old rules with a 'new cap' ?

BT Mobile payg (via Vodafone old reseller MVNO) was not even allowed, it was challenged and changed as discriminatory to vulnerable people outdoors. Hope BT did not go backwards again ?

I got the information regarding mobile phones and BT basic from http://www.bt.co.uk/pricing/current/Cust_Opts_Res_boo/FrameworkImpl55289.htm#FrameworkImpl55289 . States under the Eligibility section "where the customer or anyone else in the customer's household has a contract mobile phone (one where bills are issued and payments are made in arrears), or a mobile phone with high "pay as you go" usage where high usage is defined as more than £10.00 per month on average (chronically sick and disabled customers will be exempt from the mobile phone exclusions)" Seems from that the mobile rule doesn't apply if your chronically sick and disabled which probably covers the discrimination you mentioned.

ironically because most people on DWP benefits to qualify are, poorly worded - they probably delegated to someone in their third party call India centres to write the guide and another non English UK based proof reader checked the English via spellcheck not the content

£10 is not high usage if you are calling abroad/data.

A booking should be able to be planned for takeover later than the date when ordering (mobile companies should be forced to do the same - you set a date for transfer) Sky used to offer it online months away, they have obviously limited it, I would call back again - it probably now has to be done manually by Sky, call centre staff have probably been limited as per online order.

No. I rang up TT yesterday to hand in my 30 day notice....but my 18month ends in May so they charged me a £15 early cancellation fee. Its worth it. Nothing to do with Sky.

My service with TT will now end in 6 April
seaniboy
8 Mar 17 1 #282
Sky install date is before the 6th I hope?, sometimes doing it the same day with 30 days notice and new provider activation you can end up with termination/activation charges as a cease and activation on BT Openreach system is not a always transfer when indeed it is actually a transfer.

Just be aware people, transfer provider the day before at the latest from the disconnection date of your current provider.

I think it was TT who ceased my line the morning of moving to BT(?) via transfer & BT activated late afternoon, it should have been seamless with minimal downtime but it wasn't, that was not a issue, the fees were.

BT Openreach charged TT cease charge & BT activation charge - both telcos tried to bill me fees, now given BT Openreach is wholesale with no end customer contact it was a nightmare. I ended up having to go to the BT Chief Exec office to lodge a complaint against OpenReach, OR accepted it was unfair and refunded TT/BT - both of who said the charges still stood, I had to raise complaints and forward emails from the BT Chief Exec office that the OR fees were dropped.

OR said TT were to blame, to calculate the Early Termination Fee TT took a 30 day notice even though the transfer was before that date (I later trying to save every penny I could & changed it to the same date) but processed the 'transfer' based on the 30 day notice..ie if the line did not transfer BEFORE that date it ceased and a charge was raised by OR and passed on to me from TT.

Fingers burnt, lesson learnt - always transfer service the day before if you have given 30 days notice to get the ETF amount if you have not completed the minimum contract period for the current telecom provider. I assume to calculate ETF to then agree a 30 notice TT (and others?) IT system HAS to take the cease date as inputted by customer service agent based on 30 days notice ?

Hopefully this has changed as it was years ago, but just be aware.

One days billing from the losing telco is hardly a loss of anything, esp when moving to a much cheaper deal. Move the day before the 30 days notice date.

If anyone is having continued line/broadband issues and repeatedly told by their telco OR says it cant find a fault etc, raise a complaint against OR with BT Chief Exec office about the ongoing issue - you soon find out if your telco are lying through their teeth or OpenReach send a engineer because they are brushing it aside.

It's a flaw of the whole Wholesale set up, but as your telco rent the line and the OWNERS are 'BT Group PLC' you can hold them accountable if you cant get the problem resolved through your telco. Many telcos just lie and pass blame to OR, believe me if blame is not on OR a BT complaint will tell you it is your telco not doing their job properly or BT OR.

I know it is more expensive than sky deal but obviously faster BB. The interesting thing is BT....after they tried to hit me with £56 charge (for the router) for moving to sky 5 days before end of my contract, I tried to avoid that by installing virgin a day after BT contract expires...They sent me an email stating they will charge me £31 for service cessation...What a bunch of cowboys...Never BT again even if they pay me

Reebok.Ron to adamwilko007
9 Mar 17 #295
I got quoted pretty much the same by Sky this timek but I have 18mbps currently with BT and have had over 19mbps with Sky who I was with previously before I moved to BT. So there's no guarantee but your download rate may well be much higher. If it was actually 4mbps that wouldn't be great for streaming especially if there's other traffic on the broadband.
seaniboy to adamwilko007

Think that's their minimum, Ofcom have a minimum industry wide now (3.5? That might be wrong ?) I'm quoted 10-19 and having had Sky before and near the exchange when streaming Ultra HD netflix is peaks at ADSL+2 at 24, the lower and higher stipulates from Ofcom are to give consumers reasonable choice outcomes than the reality of the original ADSL2+ 8-24 industry thresholds

Well it didn't work like that in the end - if you see my previous post. Two week wait.

I have thought about doing this, but not keen on spending £25 for a couple of weeks data. I'll probably just live with my phone for those weeks and only connect to my computer if I really need to.

Thanks to TalkTalk, my order has been cancelled. Order went through. Sky issued me an account number, then today Sky sent me an email & text to say order cancelled!

Reason: A 3rd party got involved re: my landline number, so Sky cancelled...which means I can no longer qualify for this deal as its 1 code per household, and my code is now showing as USED!

Fk you Talktalk - I'm still leaving you!!!

You can still get it. It's worked in he past, put a random postcode in there and get new code. On the last day, 0propld will be requesting codes and will get given some by random people.

Don't miss out becausebif talk talk, find out what happened and stop it from napping again.

Thirdly you can try calling sky to reinstate same one and reapplying former code. I've done that with my sister's account too in the past.

11 Mar 17 1 #332
I assume you calling TT again telling them you were now going to transfer number ? Rather than just tell you make sure of transfer out before X TT disconnection date with 30 days notice they cancelled the 30 day notice - so the pending Sky could/would be refused as automatically on TT system with BT OR? Or manually by accident or malice.

A 30 notice being given (is not needed to transfer number) and a transfer applied on top should not mess things up via just ordering Sky and not giving TT notice. If the Sky live date was after TT disconnect date yes call TT, but if not I would not call TT or any other provider to start poking about in things - a transfer is new provider led, if you called Sky (or any new provider order) after a non transfer order and want to ensure the transfer of the number this should be done with the new provider who can tweak the new order on their/BT OR system.

It is reverse slamming, you gave TT the opportunity to cancel the $ervice being removed from them, its a shady practice - sometimes it happens when you don't even call your existing telco provider, they just cancel it & that's why you are meant to get a letter from the current provider saying you are transferring out, reverse slamming works both ways, the letter is meant to protect you as a consumer from 'slamming' (such a poor term even Ofcom use) but current provider slamming is not really addressed, your cancellation of 30 day cease because you chose to keep your number should not invalidate a transfer to another telco provider instruction to do so.

I disagree reading back the posts, yes they are not 100% aware of the process but giving 30 days notice to take Sky then retracting such from TT to transfer number across to Sky should not cancel the Sky order which TT have done. Experience of TT I know the sales team lie, offshore lie and so do the Cheif Executives complaints office - my worst ever experience of Broadband even surpassing Orange by a long way, TT are not following correct protocol from what I read they should have told user to call Sky to add transfer number over by disconnection date to the new providers order and not touched anything on the TT account as the 30 days notice was given. They cancelled the 30 days and Line takeover. It deliberate or not is reverse slamming - not ensuring customer can leave, which a customer can do even if still in a minimum term contract.

I've said it once & a million times, communications companies can't communicate, they want your cash not your custom. Unfortunately for consumers it's hell at times, things have slowly got better over the years with Ofcom procedures but Ofcom is slow and staff training and compliance in matters with telcos is still tremendously poor, especially when things go wrong.

The wrong language may have been used but the *cough* telecom agent should be clarifying intent several times every step of the way and laying out a consumers options internally and externally via protocol - easier to do when not outsourcing to offshore where minimum wage is cheaper. They also as mentioned should have directed the customer to new provider (Sky) to add a number transfer to the order and ended the call. They failed to do such at TT possible gain.

Telco changing is meant to be easy as per Ofcom but hardly anyone has a quick call to do such when contacting the current provider, why broadband is no MAC and consumer led but like PAC for mobile consumer led with current or future provider either way has its problems.

Frankly now BT Openreach has been given a split I think consumers should be allowed to contact them directly about broadband/line transfers for advice and also given BT buying EE the same for PAC process bringing the main 4 PAC depts under one roof dept - if they can do it for Pay For It as co-owners to make money they should be doing it and handling transfer of landline/mobile complaints and recording such in conjunction with Ofcom monitoring of telco failures.

PACing between networks outsourced to 1 dept at Openreach would cut down on two parties trying to sort out errors out with PACs and consumers being able to lodge complaints and errors directly and also landline.

Opportunities are here now, but don't expect Ofcom to have a common sense outlook to it.

hey thanks for the insight into the workings of these organisations...had never heard of "slamming" until now!!
My current BB contract runs out mid June but have arranged with sky to defer the line takeover to the beginning of June as I still have about 3 months left.
Anyway just wondering shall I just keep quiet and not say anything to my current provider and let the switch to Sky occur or do I still have to give the 30 day notice to my original provider. Just don't want to get to June and find my current provider has thrown a spanner in the works and wrecked the transfer resulting in me losing the ½price linerental & the 50£ credit
Thank you

No don't contact old provider, since the end of MAC to transfer broadband a new order/provider is led by them via a new customer order, be it line or broadband or both. The current provider should contact customer to ensure it is not a slamming to a new telco, if it is not a slamming attempt you take no action when informed.

I do wish UK mobile networks would catch up, I have lived in countries where you give the new mobile provider the number/account number/DOB and it gives the old provider a couple of hours to call you to negotiate a better deal or leave, this is open to slamming abuse by losing telco but also gives more negotiation than a PAC/30 day expiry as the loss of connection/customer is almost immediate. If you call the new mobile provider transfer team from another number than the one you are requiring transferred it can delay the number port (additional security check) it also means you HAVE to register details with the new sim/provider to match the transfer details. it is still open to slamming abuse but less so.

Just signed up to this deal, had to pay £20 extra for the line transfer no idea why but snapped it up, ive been looking for sky deals but upto now failed, i cancel sky just under 12 months ago so 3rd party deals wasnt working elsewhere and only offering me £18 line rental / £10 deal direct, but this ones gone though hopefully no errors.. im a current sky TV customer though.

Last year was abit of a nightmare, i cancel sky TV / BB.... then looked for a deal, everyone then said i needed a new line, nothing was found even though i was in the notice period, i had to notify sky not to cancel BB just the tv, then do the deal via uswitch and everything went though perfect for a £18 talk talk line rental / Free BB which was a good deal at the time with a £100 voucher, i signed bk up the TV service via there offers to come bk, £50 credit, half price boxset deal £18.. and in december took out there half price sky movies/sports deal at £18, last month Sky sent me a letter as was expecting the boxset deal to go up as deal ended, they will continue the price i currently pay for all channels (box/movies/sports £38 for 18 months no contract... peace of mind no messing about deal.. bargain so just had to sort BB out again for aprill, my talk talk contract is until 2nd April. Time this has gone though the 14 day period, not far off.

bargain deal cheers op!

ps: dont cancel your current BB, (unless its virgin) let sky to the talking, issue i had last year.. as soon as uve canceled which i guess most folks will after signing up for protection of not having a big bill or issues, causes an issue soon as u cancel other providers think u have no line at all.

Yes, I called just to say that I want to join them as I've spotted the mse offer and needed to ask what the procedure is as I am with Virgin and read somewhere that the client needs to call Virgin themselves to announce the transfer plus to give them 30 days notice, but had just been of the phone with V and they were their usual uncooperative selves and kept asking me if I want to disconnect right there on the spot  . The Sky representative sad that that's not the case, they will arrange all and then asked me for the code. Took him a few seconds to check that it's a valid code and then processed the order. Didn't get charged £20 either as apparently I have neighbors with Sky, which was a nice surprise. Now just waiting for the engineer to come on the 26th, the first available date as I want to keep my landline number. Missed out on Quidco, but even if it tracks it's not guaranteed and this way I got £20 waved so very happy with that

Get the sky code first and call VM to cancel your new contract. They are bound to ask you why and if you mention the Sky offer you might get a better deal from them, but it's unlikely to be anywhere near £64. When I first called to give them my 30 days notice they offered me £17pm (inc LR) and £50 credit, so I went ahead with Sky (see my previous posts 347&370). The next day had a missed call from 0344 6024419, when they called again they wanted to confirm with me the transitional day for my landline that Sky had given them, and to frighten me with the prospect of loosing my ntlworld email that I've had for ages. I told them that I am already saving important emails and hopefully will be ready by the time they cut it off (I think that's 90 days following disconnection). His next move was to ask me about my Sky offer (as if he didn't already know) and then offered me £10 a month with £50 credit including LR. I annually always try to renegotiate my contract by finding cheaper offers elsewhere but have never been so successful before, last year I paid £10 a month plus £190 LR Saver. Maybe it's because this time around I wasn't even trying I just wanted to leave them and never once asked for a discount from them, I guess the call from Sky is the best incentive for Virgin and they see that you are not that attached to their fibre, weekend calls nor email address and are not just bluffing.
I know there isn't a straight 'one fit all' scenario especially when it comes to Virgin but really hope you get a good deal out of them as they have an atrocious customers service and in my opinion don't deserve their customers

For anyone leaving BT to Sky with the BT April 2nd call charges and BT not taking 30 days penalty free notice with large final bills (cross posted from BT thread):

BT complaint logged yesterday with Ofcom, a nice woman at BT Chief Executive office assures myself leaving with the 30 days notice of April 2nd price charges will cost nothing (India continued to dispute) and any billing error on billing date should be brought to her attention by calling her direct number as the final bill may have charges not shown and only the credits given, she has noted the 30 days notice and have until 14 April to transfer out.

As I said, ALL telco complaints for telco monitoring reasons should go through Ofcom who send it on and not through the old mandatory Complaints Code Of Conduct/8 weeks Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Had mine installed today. As my Virgin FIbre was cancelled I didn't have a number to bring over and had to tick the new line box and be charged £20.

The Sky engineer came and as I had connected the HUB, he worked on the outdoor mains box and went in 5mins. As we were with sky 2 years back we had a BT Open Reach box already in the house.

Just called customer services to say why have we been charged as there was a box/line and the £20 was not needed. Been placed on hold a few times but managed to get the £20 credited back!

I'm expecting a fight with BT for the final charges, particularly for the LRS pro-rata refund. So are you saying that if it all goes pear shaped that we should immediately complain to OFCOM rather than use any other complaint resolution method?
seaniboy
15 Mar 17 1 #395
YES! Accurate complaints recording is now through Ofcom not the old ADR for people who could be bothered. Ofcom got proactive when pushed they were not recording complaints as per the Communications Act by solely reliying on a third party company reporting via a ADR - just as BT did when denying vulnerable customers on BT Basic a mobile to use outdoors. Challenge everything, except nothing my fellow humans. It is YOUR country not a governments or public service employees

Yeah, a BT Openreach actual human intervention has to do physical work moving to/from/across LLU providers. If you are doing things from a BT Wholesale reseller to another it can all be transferred by remote computer, no need for a grumpy BT Openreach engineer to attend any location exchange/street cabinet/property. LLU is like buying a house, loads of middle men and cost/s

Talk Anytime Extra you mean ? Yes add after connection then it is not a 12 month term and can be removed, wheras if you sign up to a bundle at order time you can be force to pay that for the full minimum term. So unless cashback is determining a 'bundle' must be done at order to get X cashback always add after connection with all telcos, even the same day - as long as the order shows it was not part of the initial minimum contract terms. Gives flexibility and also reduces any early termination fees if you have to move/terminate in minimum term.

Can I ask how you got the Virgin Media deal for £15? I've seen it pop up a few times in comments on broadband deals but not one mentions how they got it
sam1970
19 Mar 17 #422
It was a referral deal (Got referred by someone on HUKD). Virging will deny that this offer exists but once you get referred by someone who got it they will budge....PM me if you are interested

Gutted missed this deal, looking for cheap broadband and line rental as have TV through let's say other means.

22 Mar 17 #424
Quick question please Guys, the £50.00 credit, is that used against the line rental (ie reduces each Month by £9.50 + calls) or does it just come off the calls?

Cheers

It is used for any charge on the account.

I got this deal and called Virgin to give notice (been with them for 14 years). Whilst on the phone with them they claimed that the 17Mbps broadband speed with Sky will be very poor and that I'll struggle to cast any videos via chromecast as they'll just keep buffering! Has anyone experienced this or know of this? Tia
dt_matthews
22 Mar 17 1 #427
That is complete rubbish, Virgin should be ashamed of using such underhand sales tactics to keep customers. I have a 13mbps line and it never buffers on Netflix to my Chromecast.

Thanks for that! You put my mind to rest.

Nonsense, I was quite wary signing up to 17mb.

But since installation over the weekend I've had an average of 12/13mb and flawless streaming via chromecast.
An absolutely outrageous price for 12 months of quality broadband and delighted I went for it.

Did you manage to claim it back in the end?

The Max you could get is 17mbps, but it depends on your distance from the telephone exchange I think. The further you are the less you get

Hi all, changed over from BT to Sky today, should caller display work automatically or do you need to call Sky to activate it?

Not working for me :disappointed:

Caller Id is chargeable on Sky. At least it used be earlier. We specifically did not select for that reason.

In our welcome letter there is a mention of £9.95 delivery charge to be added to the first bill. I thought for this offer it was waived off. Did other get the same thing on their letter as well ?
custommade07
29 Mar 17 1 #436
Just email, call or live chat their customer service. They'll waive the fee. I got charged £20 for installation but had it taken off after it turned out an installation was not required. Very helpful service.

Just waiting for their first bill and then will contact customer service. Frustratingly BT is not refunding the Line Rental which I paid in advance. Another complaint to raise against them - they are a bunch of muppets. When I gave the notice to leave, I was promised Line Rental refund.

does anybody know what the cooling off period is on this. i got the deal but it will be for 6th april. does it start from installation date? thanks

11 Apr 17 #439
Hi when do you get your first bill? My installation date is 6th April and haven't received first bill yet. Am wondering if I've been charged the installation and delivery charge as my upfront payment on joining was £25. Thanks and look forward to your reply.

Do you know if this referral offer is still available? Just put my notice in with VM and would prefer to stay with them. The retention team offered a pretty awful deal compared to what I have been paying the past few years. Thanks if you can get back to me.

Forget about it..Virgin is a joke...I signed with them on 08 March and still no service yet. Two visits by installation teams and still could not install and I have to wait for a third visit in two weeks. I live only 5 miles form Birmingham city centre and my next door neighbour has got virgin line. The ri customer service is complete waste of time.

All went swimmingly, got £66 TCB on last Sky deal from Dec + £75 account credit back in cash for my old Sky account early £0 termination = Broadband for £0 and paid £77 for Sky BB for the year  Well worth a few weeks on mobile data between deactivation & reactivation

Hello fellow HKUD:

took up the MSE offer last year and want to avail it this yr when my contract is up in my wife's name:

1) I will use my wife's details but since we have same surname and address will it be an issue? Any tips anyone used?
2) So in sequence I am guessing I get the Sky deal first using my wife's details and give notice to cancel. Can someone kind elaborate please? For example if I was given an activation date for new deal May 1,2017 when should I tell Sky I want to cancel?

Thanks in advance
