These little Engines have been around for a long time now and I have traded in various examples with more than 150k miles on them and running well. How you ask??? Service history.. I have also noted 3+ litre Diesel engines with less than 100k ruined with DPF filter failures causing subsequent component failures to Turbos and Injectors etc.... Dont believe the nonsense from People who see a small engine and automatically think it won't last. My little 50cc Mower is over 20 years old and running like clockwork. Petrol engines run cleaner, leaner and meaner. Period.

same sort of power as a 1.6tdi golf/Octavia, Leon
I have had no issues with my Octavia when fully loaded up. modern small petrol with turbo/supercharger are the future not diesel.

it's a good deal, it's a lease, so longevity of the engine is of no concern to the one who takes up the lease. so who gives a monkeys about the whole diesel Vs petrol argument? anyone picking this, with it's 1.0 engine and 8k miles has no interest or intention of travelling up and down the motorway everyday. it will be for school runs and shopping trips, in which case it's ideal. rant over

Yeah I would struggle so I might have to stick with it. Still heard nothing from Seat even though he said he'd get straight back to me on Tuesday. I didn't pay a deposit, said it would be taken when the car is there. Wouldn't get much else, I've actually signed up for £152/month-3+23 months an had to pay £40 for it to be white. Only 6000miles per annum. Prices for that now are well over £200 so I prob should wait if poss.

To be honest I received terrible service from Seat as well.

If you don't want the car I assume you just lose the deposit you paid when you placed your order, my deposit was £100 which the dealership refunded (by cheque) when I collected the car.

What I would say is that I have noticed lease prices have increased quite a lot since this deal and you would struggle to get a car of this size for a similar price.

At the moment for £167 a month you would be looking at a Citroen C3, DS3 or a Peugeot 208.

Had a phone call yesterday to say that the car is on site! Hadn't heard from them since early may! Trouble is I now don't want the car until September as that would suit me better at this point. Will see what they say about delaying it but not even sure I want it after how terrible seat have been. You like the car, I've seen it on the rd and the alloy wheels are tiny, at least you shouldn't curb em.

Tried looking at my paperwork for clarification but have not been given any documentation about the actual lease. All I have got relating to the lease is a printout of a lease quote which states I will make one payment of £368.71 followed by 23 payments of £168.85.

I'm not even sure why the initial payment is £200 more (admin/acceptance fee maybe?).

Update
Think I might know what the extra £200 is, it is showing as deposit contribution £199.86 on my vehicle order form so it looks like it's not a payment I have to make.

Broker fee £360 !? That's expensive. Yes normally RFL is included in any PCH isn't it ?

I didn't do it to save on fees as the lease company was gonna pay the tax for both years which was £270. The broker fees were £360. I did it for the professionalism of Seat and the security of a main dealer down the rd. hahaha. Now Seat are offering me a 1.6 diesel Leon Se in that Mediterranean blue which I was paying £250 not to have.

I ordered mine on Sunday 26 February at my local Seat dealer.

They promised to ring me when the car I had been ordered at Seat and then ring me every week with an update. I heard nothing from the dealer for 3 weeks except when I rang them to ask if the car had been ordered, I then complained to the dealerships head office and am now receiving weekly updates.

I've had the same conversations with them and other lease companies. Not as good as this expired deal, but the SE Tech has some pretty good specs for the £5-6k 2 year deals I've been looking at. Just have to find a fair chunk of money for the initial payment and fees!

The dealer will only feel obligated to do a similar or better price if you can prove you will go elsewhere . In other words, if the best you will find is £70 more a month, then they probably won't want to do better knowing you already save £300 admin going direct to them. No harm in asking though.
steve129
20 Mar 17 #128
Would going direct to the dealer get you a better deal for the 1.0L SE model? The Yes Lease website doesn't seem to do the 1.0L in the SE trim. Only the 1.6TDI engine for £70 extra a month (1+23).
rich146
20 Mar 17 1 #127
Yes it has been done with lease punters. You also have the potential convenience of having the dealer locally.
paypeanuts
20 Mar 17 #126
I had no idea you could potentially avoid the processing fee by going direct to a local dealer. I just went ahead and took this deal through Yes Lease. I'm a bit miffed that I had to pay the £300 fee immediately but I won't get the car for another 12 weeks!
rich146
20 Mar 17 #125
You then take your best deal to the dealership direct and see if they will match it. This way you can save paying the processing fee.

All this talk of Diesel being cleaner is utter nonsense. The reason for the technological advancements in diesel tech was due to demand in Europe. Manufacturers including Nissan, Honda, GM/PSA, Fiat, VW Group and Ford etc are now investing in 48 Volt tech Petrol Engines and Hybrid systems which will both drastically reduce emissions and improve economy over the Diesel variants. The cost constraints in meeting Euro 7 emission demands will make Diesel's basically obselete in the small to medium car sector in future.

glasgowgirl
18 Mar 17 1 #121
I like this but after and SE or SE technology. For some reason the technology is cheaper than the SE in any deals I've seen!
Anyone seen any for less than £5500 over 2 years let me know :-)
Bertz99
18 Mar 17 #120
What you have paid would be irrelevant. They would be seeking the 2.2k still due plus the residual value when the contract should have concluded if it had gone to term - that is if the contract states 100% payment on loss and may also have early termination fees. Of course the car will be worth more than the projected value so how much short would be less. That is worse case though - some contracts have 50% payments due on total loss and I have seen cars replaced by the insurer as like for like being agreed.
Without seeing the small print though it is guess work.
paypeanuts
18 Mar 17 #119
I understand that the insurance company will only pay out the market value of the car, but I'm not clear on how much the lease company will want in the event of a write-off.

Using this deal as an example, let's say the car is written off 12 months into the lease period. Now let's say the insurance company will pay out a market value of £11,000 (that's just my guess). How much is the lease company going to want and how do they calculate it? List price less the £2k I've paid them at that point? Surely not as nobody would ever have paid list price if buying the car new.
soldierboy001
17 Mar 17 #118
You are the one insuring the car and the insurance company will settle with you as you are the policy owner. If the figure is smaller than the lease company values the car at the GAP will cover that difference required by the lease company.
Bertz99
17 Mar 17 #117
I often question the same as it makes more sense to an owner loan arrangement.
In theory it is to cover the difference of what you would owe in a total loss situation.
Example in first year is if you have paid a very high initial rental, the lease terms are to pay all remaining payments and your insurance does not cover invoice value (most do in first 12 months) one week after delivery that could be a costly 1 week rental without gap.
Alot of what ifs there though and it is in the details of both the lease and your insurance terms to decide if there is value in considering or not. Further the figures and value in gap change over the lifespan of the contract (that is also discussed in the forums you are looking) making it extremely rare to be of value for the full term.
fossman
17 Mar 17 #116
GAP insurance is required because in the event of a write off the lease company would value the vehicle as high as they could (probably original cost less the value of lease payments made) and the insurance company would value it as low they could.
paypeanuts
17 Mar 17 #115
I'm struggling to understand what eventuality I'm protecting myself from by paying for gap insurance.

Here's a comment from a chat on piston heads website:

IMHO there is no need for GAP insurance on a 2 year lease. If written-off the value of the car is clearly known by the value of stock held at the main dealers, who will own 99% of 1-2 year old cars. The insurance company will settle with the finance company for the full amount.

GAP insurance is of greater worth if a car is bought with a loan and the value of the loan reduces by a slower amount than the car's value.
rich146
17 Mar 17 3 #114
I think some people on here don't quite understand the concept of lease. Its a temporary use of which you don't even own it. Why is there mention of endurance issues i.e 100k!? Its lease!! You wiont be doing these kind of miles and even if it did blow up , it would just get replaced at no extra cost! I think people just comment for the sake of commenting. Funny bunch.

It's a depreciating asset. Why pay cash up front for a car that will lose 30% as soon as you drive it off the forecourt?

By leasing this example, you are likely to beat the depreciation yield being better off after the two years.

This was explained on the previous Ateca deal.

You'll have to pay the processing fee of £300 straight away. The car will then be delivered to you in 12 weeks time. You start paying the monthly lease of £165 at that point. 24 months and £4,268 later you hand it back and walk away.

In addition, you'll have to pay to get it serviced after 12 months (I'm not sure if you also have to pay for a second service at 24 months just before you give it back - does anyone know?) but there's no extra to pay for road tax as it's included in the price. You'll also have to arrange and pay for insurance yourself as it's not included in the deal.

DPF issues caused by low mileage driving causes excessive carbonisation of the fuel injection system by burning too much fuel through the injection system. This causes build up of carbon deposits in the injectors and eventual failure of the Injectors and even Turbos. I have replaced enough of them over time. Most recently a Honda CRV iDtec. A new injector was £250 each. Four of those would buy a lot of Petrol!!!

1.0tsi is not for me, the engine is working hard, I'd go for 1.6tdi or the 1.4tsi. But if you are happy to thrash it everywhere and return it at end of lease, then go for it. All reviews on the Ateca are quite impressive. All in all a good deal. Petrol is nice and clean is it?

Wrong

Wrong

Wrong

I really dont understand why the govt is so ignorant of the fact that the very latest small engine turbo petrols are actually worse than Diesels. By the time this comes widely known, everyone will have switched to petrols in an effort to be "clean"
Its also frustrating, since my car is one of the very cleanest diesels out there as it uses AdBlue to eliminate NOx emmisions, but this is also ignored and overlooked. Mazda have developed a diesel engine that has virtually eliminated soot and particulate emmisions. But this has also been kept very quiet.
The agenda is to demonise diesels now as much as possible
Diesel engine tech has advanced at a far faster pace than petrol over the last 20 years.
Until petrols get to a point of being as economical as diesels, i shall stick with my clean diesel.
MaximusRo
15 Mar 17 #83
Will you put petrol angines on LGVs?
Or if you buy this 4x4 SUV and want to tow your caravan, would you buy petrol?

The fireplace in your house is dirty and produces some of the same particulates as Diesel.

However, fact remains Diesel engines are more efficient, give way more torque, the engines are more resilient and better suited for long operation.

Between a 1.6 efficient Diesel and a 3.0 petrol engine that makes you stop at the petrol station about 3 times more often (petrol that has to be transported there somehow, but surely polluting even more), I think it is not very clear cut which one pollutes more

Why do people complain about a 1 litre engine not being able to last 100k miles when they have no experience and the deal is for 16k miles only? Good price if you need a tallis family car.

I ordered through Seat about a month ago on a £152 3+23 month 8k deal. Went and test drove the 1.0 as I was worried about performance but it seemed fine, no racer but fine for the missus with a lot of room for the 2 kids. It was the SE, so not certain what I'm getting spec wise. I thought the blue would be fine until I saw it in real life- horrible! So they upgraded me to white for this price. It arrives mid April, but I have had to beat this info out of seat, not been impressed with them so far regarding keeping me informed.

I took the 1.6 diesel for a test drive a few weeks ago, very nice to drive. Good visibility, nice gear change, there wasn't much to complain about to be honest. I'm like 6' 2" and there was plenty of room for me in the back as well. The dealership were rubbish though, they just weren't interested.

Ended up leasing the 1.4 petrol SE model from First Vehicle Leasing; £750 upfront, then £250 a month for 10k over 2 years. Got the double boot option added on too. The finance company have put the prices up since I ordered, but you can still get it for ~270 a month I think.

The SE model has a few added extras over the S:

17" alloys
Heated/folding door mirrors
Bigger 8" media system touch screen (although no DAB radio/sat nav which is pants, but you do get Apple CarPlay and whatever the Android equivalent is so you can just use Google Maps or whatever)
Dual zone climate control
Cruise control
Rear parking sensors

From what I remember, the top of the range Xcellence was more like £300 a month, so would be an extra £1,300 or so over the two years. You do get some flashy extras, but I didn't think they were worth it personally.

Should be taking delivery at the start of June, there is a longer wait for the petrol engines over the diesel.

Hope that helps!

15 Mar 17 1 #75
I test drove the 1.6 diesel as they didn't have a 1.0 petrol available, it was also a SE model and not an S.

I wasn't really looking for a car this big but for the price I couldn't resist.

Here is a photo of the one they had in the showroom:

I've ordered mine without test driving it. I've got no idea if it's any good or not, but it seemed like a good deal and I was looking for a 2 year lease on a Sportster, Qashqai or something of a similar size.

I was hoping the comments on this thread would've been more helpful for someone interested in actually taking this deal, but instead it's been the usual childish bickering back-and-forth between petrol-heads. I thought a DPF was an electronic image document - apparently not.

This removal of Dpf filters is both illegal and vastly increases Nox emissions which are both linked to respiratory illness and cancers (fact). The government are cracking down on businesses who remove them with heavy fines being imposed. They are fitted for good reason. Diesel is dirty. 90 Percent of all Diesel Engines made for cars are sold in Europe. Europe has now realised the side effects and production will decrease and fast. Petrol or Petrol/Electric hybrids are the future.

Ordered mine three weeks ago from my local Seat dealer, will be paying £168 a month on a 1+23 lease deal with 10,000 miles.

They said the 12 week delivery time was an at least time and it could be anything up to 26 weeks.

Not impressed with the dealers thus far, they said they would ring me once a week with an update but I've not heard from them at all.

Why not just steal fuel from the filling station? This will save you a lot more money than removing your DPF filter. Just use dodgy licence plates. As long as the law is flexible enough that they can only identify you visually with your licence plate I don't see a problem with that.

Maybe in future they will crack down and have a police car at every petrol station but until then i will condone stealing fuel.
m5rcc
15 Mar 17 #64
Wrong. The law is not flexible. It is very clear as pointed out very clearly to you in my previous post.

It's one of the reasons surely? If, as you say, the DPF gets filled with soot, then by not having it at all, removes the element of having to clean it at all, no?

So does using Shell V-Power Nitro Diesel Plus. DPFs along with EGRs fail because some people are driving the wrong car, i.e. driving a diesel for short journeys, when such cars are not designed to be used in such ways. Unless you do 20,000 miles a year or more, need a very big vehicle such as a pick-up or a van, or need to tow something, don't buy a diesel. By all means lease one, as you won't have the maintenance problems of diesels, although now most lease companies do add a clause regarding DPFs.

Again - it is illegal to do such a thing. Circumventing it doesn't make you a genius. A VOSA roadside check could instantly put your car off the road. Not only that, if you sell a car with the DPF removed you could also later be successfully sued by the buyer, whether a private individual or a garage.
danbrooks9237
15 Mar 17 #63
I will condone it as long as the law is as flexible as it is at the moment. And if you think that the only reason people remove the DPF is to get out of cleaning it or replacing it then you are way out of touch. Removing the DPF can reduce fuel consumption resulting in in 2-3MPG gains. It also helps with performance and reduces the risk of mechanical failure on the rest of the parts of the car, for example the turbo. I agree that in an ideal world that people who do this should be f5pked however with the current law in place people will continue to do it as long as it saves them money and the gains for the individual is massive to gut the DPF rather then replace it, even when including cost of gutting and then the gains for them after!
m5rcc
15 Mar 17 #62
Yes - just like a catalytic converter. It serves a purpose. It's not there for decoration.

Not yet they don't. Given the VW emmission scandal, VOSA could (and should) introduce more sensitive emission testing.

But it still remains illegal to remove/gut the DPF. Under Regulation 61A of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, it is an offence to use a car on the road that has been modified and, as a result of the modification, does not meet the emissions requirement that applied to it when new. Besides, removing and replacing a DPF is not straightforward. Sensors, wiring and reprogramming the ECU will need to be taken into account.

If the DPF is full of ash it might be possible to send it away to Ceramex to get the ash and soot cleaned out. They do this routinely to HGV DPFs every 80,000 miles or so. Costs about £350. Better than faffing about removing a DPF.

Get around the current law...in the form of deception. Congrats!

There's a difference between ethics and morality, both of which can be legal and doing something illegal, which is what you are condoning.
danbrooks9237
15 Mar 17 #61
It is used to remove the diesel particulate matter (soot) from the exhaust gas, it is in the name. And there is a depending about it, it is a visual inspection, they have no test to see if the DPF is functioning. Therefore as long as the DPF looks like it is there then they will not fail the MOT. Have a quick google search and there are loads of cases of people who have gutted the DPF and they have passed there MOT, no matter of they take it to a local garage on into the main dealer. I will give you that it might not be ethical and I have no doubt that in the future that they will clamp down on this, but at the moment you can get around the current law.
danbrooks9237
15 Mar 17 #60
No that is the emissions test, that does not pick up the extra emissions that diesel cars emit (soot). And also do you know how high the emissions have to be to pick up on the test?
m5rcc
15 Mar 17 #59
There's no depending about it. It is illegal under EC and UK law. Period.

You do know what the purpose of a DPF is, don't you?
soldierboy001
15 Mar 17 #58

danbrooks9237
15 Mar 17 #55
Depending if you completely remove the DPF or if you gut it. If you gut the DPF and the DPF housing is still in place then it will pass the DPF is a visual inspection and therefore they will not test to see if the DPF is functioning as it should. If you remove the DPF then you have to be "creative" in how you pass the MOT!

I had this model for a week on demo Ateca Xcellence 1.4 EcoTSI 150ps 6-speed manual it had all the safety cameras with 360 view, pop up towbar, heated seats the lot it was one of the best cars I have driven, the only issues I found was that the gear box changes were very close together so it slipped into first a lot instead of 3rd when I first started to drive it and it was very wide so wouldn't go in my garage that takes a standard Mondeo size easily

Hi mate car has done about 4k and we're averaging 44.6mpg on the trip computer that's about 70/30 town driving and a roads with loads of bends ( very little motorway dual carriageway)

if you sit on the motorway at a steady speed will do 50mpg

so it's ok but the quoted figures are pie in the sky
danbrooks9237
15 Mar 17 #45
Depends on where you take the car, i.e. My local garage would happily turn a blind eye as the emissions cannot be tested for, if you take a car to a main dealer then they will want you to put a DPF back on as it will make them money, if a garage is willing to remove be DPF then they will happily pass the car. Or the other thing that you can do if this is a worry is to simply bypass the DPF (gut it). This will require a remap in order to tell the ECU that there is no DPF so there is no warning lights. This means that the DPF to the eyes of the tester is still there, however obviously it is not doing anything. All the law states is that the DPF must be present, it does not mean it has to be doing anything. There are plans to change this, however as far as I am aware are not in place.

Here's an idea if the DPF is causing problems, remove the bloody thing. It may make quite a lot of soot, however if you take it to your local garage for an MOT they will pass it as they will not have the ability to test the emission and even if they do the threshold is so high that even a 5.0TDI V10 will pass without an DPF. People always think that a DPF's are essential to a diesel however with my car if the DPF goes it will be having straight pipe!
cuthy7007
15 Mar 17 #34
Just read the review from Parker Guide.

"the 1.6-litre TDI is the company car driver’s choice, with 115hp and low running costs. We’ve not driven this engine in the Ateca yet but would expect it to perform broadly on a par with the entry petrol, which shares the same power output. The diesel has more torque, but is also heavier"

Hope that clarifies the argument above for the difference in torque.

Excellent deal thanks
