The Xbox one and ps4 doesn't do over 60hz, neither does any broadcast on TVs. Anything above 60hz on TVs is achieved by motion interpolation, which is a form of digital processing that tries to generate frames to smoothen out the image. It's not real 120hz and usually causes input lag, making it unsuitable for fast paced gaming.
It's a nice thing to have for video content but recommended to be disabled for gaming.

I bought this last time it dropped to around this price and am impressed with it. The ambilight is a great bonus and the built in android works great and can have Kodi installed

1 Mar 17 #2
I've read the ambilight is really good from other threads(Samsung 7000 series) that don't have it, and since all edge lit TVs suffer from clouding and backlights problems to some extent, this seems a good price. Heat.

Yep, I have it and had never experienced ambilight before, but I really love it. It's just a really pleasant feature to light up the back wall behind the tv (when it works. First TV I picked up had issues and periodically went into a flashy, fit-inducing strobe thing. Replacement was fine!).

Likely because it is android TV not phone/tablet android. Some companies that have made android OS apps have not ported them to android TV which is a shame as in most cases it is very simple. FYI I have an nvidia shield android TV and have had some success side loading standard android apps but your mileage may vary depending on the interface of the app you are side loading and the input options on the TV remote.

Bought this when it was £410 at Xmas. The Freeview receiver is pretty poor with HD channels so I had to dig out an old Sky box but other than that it's a great TV, Kodi can be installed on it too.

You sure the code TV10 is working? I tried 2 days ago and code had expired. I got an email for a Hitachi 48" Smart TV for £250 just now which brought me to this thread but it's unavailable anywhere local. I'm wondering if this deal is from tomorrow onwards? If TV10 is included that would make it a superb price.

Edit, just tried it on another TV and it is working. Will hold out on that Hitatchi deal for the morning.

Argos sent me an email 45 minutes ago: "A product you've looked at is now on offer.", found it strange them sending me that when it's OOS everywhere which makes me think it may be on offer from tomorrow.

As I say, I tried that code 2 days ago and it had expired. Got the code working for another TV but I'd prefer the Hitachi because of the price point so I'll check again in the morning.

You can install apps on this TV using ES File explorer which is available from the TV menu and .apk files which you can find on google. (WWE network and Showbox are the two that I've installed) keyboard and mouse are plug and play also.

I purchased this tv last week, I contacted argos via live chat and they refunded the £70 difference no problem, good tv gets a bit of getting used to as the picture quality is better and brighter than my Samsung, would recommend for the price, code is working today.

I had this at Christmas for about 2 weeks. Crashed almost every other day and struggled sometimes with kodi, also I didn't think the picture was that great. Ambilight was a nice touch but not all that. I took it back and got Samsung.

What's the refresh rate on this TV? I want to use it with my PS4 and don't want any ghosting or blurring.

edit: 60HZ no thanks

2 Mar 17 1 #22
The majority of TVs are just 60hz regardless of what the spec says. Also most PS4 games are locked at 30fps and no games run over 60fps. My point being 60hz is enough for a PS4.

Here's my story of why you should buy a TV with an ambient back-light, or fit one:
My TV is edge lit for better blacks, but I can't see them in my room because the screen is semi-glossy like a window. Nothing ruins the immersion of a tense night gunfight more than noticing your gormless face appear like a second moon. Decided I'd risk death by tripping and live with no light like a vampire.
My TV is LED so it's brighter. However on 0 it's bright even with a bit of ambient light, so i get eyestrain causing slightly blurry vision like I'm a bit drunk. If I was none of this would bother me.
Not deterred I bought an LED ambient lighting kit powered by the USB, and thought this will solve all my problems.
Like my previous TV it turned everything off, but then after a few seconds it got lonely and turned the USB back on.
I bought a smart plug to fix this, but wish they'd use slightly dimmer and less reflective matte screens.

This Philips has a built in ambient light which should mean none of the issues I've had, and it increases perceptual contrast. Plus changing the colour should be a fun novelty?!

Hi guys, I've received this tv couple of days ago, picture is excellent configuration was easy but I'm having backlight bleed around the edges when the scenes are black and I'm thinking to return it and hope for a better replacement. did anyone have the same issue? I've read some review and they say that the black uniformity on the panel is not perfect.

Just bought it, 390.05 delivered, will arrive tomorrow.

It has been an impulsive buy, 2 months ago I spent a couple of nights looking for tvs, researching all the technical details, reviews, forums etc. At the end of my marathon I didn't buy anything because there was always some issue or if there wasn't any issue, the price was way too high.
This time I searched for smart tv here, scrolled down a bit, saw this one, spent 10 minutes on googling it and boom bought it ... I hope I will not regret my choice.

I'll give you an update in the next days

Managed to get Argos to give me the extra 10% in store as wanted to use some vouchers. They said the code had expired until i shower them the online shop accepting it lol

it seems to save pic settings - I only use ISF day and ISF night - (used settings for the 6501 from avforums)
looks impressive with 4k source, inbuilt freeview HD is not as good as sky hd imo
...and anyone any ideas about dealing with light bleed - had read about tapping screen and/or rubbing the area with a cloth ?

5 Mar 17 1 #35
Thanks, I'll have another tinker. Needed to tone down the colour, natural motion and also turned off dynamic contrast as seemed to be losing detail. Amazon Prime 4k videos look great.

Have you got the avforum calibration link?

J9STL to cre5ta
7 Mar 17 #40
I too had a set replaced due to a 30mm wide parallel section all up the rhs of the screen form the outer edge. Noticeable as lighter green band when watching football on sky. Replacement appears OK. Settings not being lost and set is on latest (Dec 2016) firmware.
If you aren't happy then return it - if you can find a replacement to swap it for....

added - have you tried the settings from post #36 ? brightness and gamma high would make light bleeds more noticeable
cre5ta
7 Mar 17 1 #41
of course I did. I'm trying everything, also rubbing the screen but the clouding is only moving from one side to another. do you think that this problem accentuate when the tv is on his stand. btw my 3rd unit is coming tomorrow morning, hope is going to be better

I bought this set on Black Friday last year (£404) but had to return it, horizontal lines and some glitches on the screen. It was a headache as Argos didn't want to take it back. Also, HDR here is low quality IMO. Not sure if worthy for PS4 Pro / Xbox One S.

Agree, a lot of FUD in the industry. Unfortunately it seems to be working as a lot of people post similar comments regarding the refresh rate. Not realising what the manufacturer is talking about is motion interpolation and that has considerable drawbacks.

I would disagree with this part. I prefer the occasional judder/motion blur thats an inherent part of the source over the Soap Opera effect and artefacts introduced by motion interpolation. It's always turned off or to the absolute minimum on my TVs.

Same here. I've contacted them. They are saying if you've not opened it then you can take it back to store and they'll process a refund and re-sale on lower price. Sounds too hectic for me

Annoying its gone down in price another £27, sent a polite email - nothing ventured nothing gained and all that! :stuck_out_tongue:

I've had the tv a week now. Its a decent set. Good picture, didn't notice any input lag or light bleeding. The ambi-light is a bit of a gimmick for me so its turned off and sometimes the wireless doesn't connect straight away although that could be the signal strength.

Its a decent entry level set for the money. It also hooge compared to the 32" I had before. :P
