What ever you do make sure you buy this with a 5 warranty, I'm in the repair sector and Lg aren't the most reliable , we would be a lot quieter at work without LG repairs , mainly screen faults, as good as the picture is I wouldn't touch one without a good warranty or if it was super cheap and the savings paid for appliance insurance ..

Oh and make sure you leave it in standbye as the tv runs a screen burn cleaner, if you switch off at the plug at night and get screen burn LG won't repair, it's easy to tell through the service menu how the tv has been powered off ..

My god you should be on the stock markets. True brilliance.

But sorry to burst your bubble - this is still over £1500 and if you made the comment 12 months ago for what was gonna happen in 12 months, you've failed. Unless you're talking 1080p of course. In which case it'd be hard to track those moving goalposts with human eyes.

Their forgetting Oled is suppose to be standard, its expensive now because its new technology and you're funding research, basically you're a beta tester for the future standard item

Oled and 4k arent suppose to be some special features their standard, soon we'll see that

Not sure if the new 2017 TVs will impact prices because the B7 will launch at the £3000 RRP. Once people realise the B6 -> B7 is hardly a jump the existing stock of B6 at £1700 will look very appealing and the last remaining sets will get snapped up.

Baffled with the picture quality personally, been watching Iron Fist on Netflix today with the Dolby Vision active spending hours on end trying to calibrate the picture settings via online advice to eliminate the terrible noise, blur and motion ghosting! I am at the end of my tether now and may well just return the B6 to John Lewis as I've only had it a week or so... Really disappointed.

Just a side note, if I use Netflix via my PS4 so as to deactivate HDR the picture is considerably better, but still not what I expected.

you stick to cheap, gheto LCD tech with inferior pq and light bleeding and non existent blacks if you like but OLED will take over soon.

it's true LG is not the most reliable brand and I'm normally not a fan of this brand at all,but they are the only manufacturer who currently make OLED and some of the OLEDs they make are pretty amazing, stunning and very well reviewed.

samsung will eventually give up and make OLED's again.they are just a greedy lazy comapny, because they own a large share on TV market they think they can get away with sugar coating old ass inferior tech with marketing terms and sell it to uneducated customers (QLED) just because it looks/sounds like OLED.

OLED is the only worthy TV tech after Plasma.it will take over.Sony an Panasonic also have started their OLED TVs,so it's just the matter of time this tech becomes much more affordable and common.

You need to subscribe to the multi room package, which is 12 quid a month extra for an additional mini box to receive 4K, I've got Sky Q coming on Saturday but didn't bother with the extra mini box as we not got a 4K telly yet. I don't think you're locked in to that extra 12 quid a month anyway, I believe it's a rolling month by month thing whilst the 2TB box you need to run it is an 18 month hire agreement.

Not getting why people go on about being locked in to Sky, when you play the game efficiently you get decent deals from them. I've the full package like all the sports, movies, box sets, HD add on etc at a pony a month no contract for a year now and they recently extended up to September next year. With it being no contract either I could have left anytime with the old 1TB HD box, now I will be locked in for 18 months with the Q box hire but am not paying an extra monthly penny for it, just the 60 quid installation fee.

As I said we're getting it at what I considered a bargain price but Sky are dishing out even better deals than that, we've just bought a lovely gaff in the wilds of Lincolnshire and moved in week before last. Needless to say the fella we bought it off still has random post coming through the letter box and one of them last week was from Sky with a massive "Come back to Sky at 75% for up to a year" plastered across the envelope.

That obviously brings the top 80 quid package down to an apple which is absolutely superb in my opinion, and I have always done that leave Sky wait for a month and get the 50% off any package for up to a year move but now it seems they're doing 75%.....amazing value in anyone's book.

yes Sony and Panasonic will be buying their OLED panels from LG,but that doesn't mean their TVs are identical to LG,obviously there are various other factors involved in PQ and TV performance not just the panel..image processor and various setting, engineering, design etc etc..Apple use mostly LG displays in their iMacs, iPads and iPhones and mix of Samsung or LG in their Macbooks..so I wouldn't say LG displays are poor quality.

I have no idea what you are talking about on Casio club etch might have liked a random casio watch here and there and I certainly like Casio G-shock series and thats about it, not sure what you mean..

as for the TV I own a higher end Panasonic plasma and vowed I won't upgrade to anything except OLED.I still would prefer an OLED TV made my Samsung or Panasonic since I never liked LG brand, but then they are the only major OLED tv maker and many of their models are simply awesome with zero issues.plus there is 5 year warranty available from some sellers.

Yes, I took out the Sky Q offer when I bought the B6 last November. Had Q installed before Xmas so didn't have to wait that long but it might depend on engineers being available in your area. I was an existing Sky TV subscriber.

I had to pay £99 installation for the Q box and minibox in one other room. I have saved 12 x £12 for the multiroom subscription being waived. So all in all, not a great deal of monetary value saving in the deal (£45) for me but I do now have Q !

Lucky Goldstar are pants, from their products and customer care to their dinlow name they are pants. I'd rather read 'The thoughts of Chairman Mao' from cover to cover than buy any of their old tosh so OLED is not even on the distant horizon for me.

I don't think calling anything "cheap ghetto tech" holds much credibility when coming from a Casio sponsor but let's just leave it that on that specific topic.

As I've said above I can't bring myself to hand over a penny for a Lucky Goldstar product, Sony or Panasonic badges won't make one iota of difference hmmmm on second thoughts I suppose it will as I now know not to buy any OLED television for the foreseeable future full stop.

A ridiculously stupid stitch up price would be a great reason not to consider it, I am happy to sit back and watch and wait for the time being.

Can't be as bad as Philips. I owned a Philips 29" CRT model 23 years ago, it spent more time in the workshop than it did at home. It was fixed in the end but the repair bill was almost half the price of the telly. I don't remember if there were warranties around when I bought it in 1990. It soldiered on for another 4 years before packing up. It was the only had problems with. I owned JVC, Toshiba & now a Panasonic. I used to sell tellies for a living 20 years ago so I knew what was good & what was bad. If I were to buy a telly today it would be not without doing a bit of research on models I'd want to buy reliability wise. No point in dropping 1-2k on a peach of a telly only for it to turn out to be a Lemon.

your choice, no body is gonna force you to buy OLED TV,and no body is going to miss your business.
and again while I dislike LG brand in general, they can make -some- great stuff,I said their OLED TVs are great and some of their LCD displays are also top notch and best in business and being used by Apple and others so your opinion doesn't really matter because it's not based on facts.while mine is backed up by evidence.
lol listen you got some issues and you need to get help..I'm not Casio supporter and I don't even wear watches that often,I think once you posted a picture of a ugly ass watch in a Casio watch thread and me and others disliked it..so you kept that grudge to this day
Chasloyal
21 Mar 17 #94
I don't wear a watch either, haven't done so for probably more than two decades now. Must say it's rather ironic you're defending cosmetically inferior goods and possibly poorly manufactured too when it comes to television technology as you see it yet labelled far superior workmanship 'ugly ass' when it came to wrist watches.

And all these septic expressions coming in to our day to day lingo on this side of the pond makes me despair. I'll end up giving myself an ulcer worrying about this wannabe Kardashian culture infesting our green and pleasant wee land.

I'm not an Apple buying rep so I am not privvy to why they source what they do, I don't even own any of their products apart from an ipod touch so I'm not able to comment from personal experience either.

All I know is even going back 20 odd years when the 3DO came out you bought the Panasonic one rather than the Lucky Goldstar one because of never ending quality issues.

I know all manufacturers have horror stories aplenty but Lucky Goldstar seem to have more than most. Like someone I know even ended up going down to their UK head office in Surrey somewhere to kick off about lack of support for a 3 grand telly that kept dying after being supposedly having been fixed by their 'experts'.

My life even their name Lucky Goldstar sounds like a moody brand of Albanian fags that would give you lung cancer within a week of smoking them, hence they shortened it to LG.

the only LG product I ever owned was a stereo and that was over 10 years ago and it was mediocre.
I never liked the brand and always favoured Samsung to LG,while both are South Korean brands and companies,Samsung always appear to havebetter tech and better built quality and better design.
that's true in general, however again some of their products specially parts, like LCD pannels are widely used by "premium" brands because they are top notch.
I brought to you example of Apple snd no one dares to say Apple's display are anything but top notch quality and extremely reliable but there are others I think Dell also used LG panels in their higher end monitors, and others.
in OLED situation, there is simply no alternative at the moment,I absolutely prefer to see an OLED TV made by Samsung or Panasonic (the whole product including panel) as these two are the best TV manufacturers currently, but Samsung is not making them YET,and Panny is sourcing the panels from LG.
so there is no other option.

OLED is without any doubt is superior to ANY LCD/LED regardless of who makes it.the difference is instantly evident and so huge,so what you do? you can't just skip the whole tech because the company that currently provides it isn't your favourite.
when you see OLED tv next to even the most high end LED,the quality difference is immediately evident, the brand becomes irrelevant.

Its not under 1500 though?? - oh and this is only cheap to clear the last batch of stock

Netflix isn;t great for 4k or HDR tbh

Marvel content on Netflix has added grain on purpose and HDR exacerbates this grain, the OLED picks up the grain even more. Don't go adjusting your set to compensate for that.

If you want a true reflection of HDR on Netflix, try Marco Polo. But you're much better off using a 4k bluray player

Can't comment on motion blur/ghosting as i just don't see it. However the noise i can comment on. It's intentional, breaking bad has it too and it's shot that way. I hate it, but the makers believe the grain in the image adds grit to the movie. Who am i to argue with the makers of breaking bad, but i still don't dig it, and it makes the Dolby vision on ironfist look like a night photo taken on an old Nokia phone, at times. However, it's not a TV fault, it's artistic... Apparently.

21 Mar 17 #100
Your point on Blu-ray is interesting. I've only had my 65inch oled a few weeks, the best material I've found so far is on YouTube. I've not seen enough HDR to comment (grainy ironfist doesn't count) but will check out Marco Polo as you mention. Anyway back to Blu-ray, i don't own a 4k Blu-ray but when watching my LOTR Blu-ray the quality looks 4k to my eyes which surprised me. Which leads me to think you're bang on, a 4k Blu-ray will likely look stunning. However, a lot of money for a limited selection right now. Must have patience!

Not all the way perfect but I would imagine a full 4k blu ray player would be needed to fully see what the tv can do... So expensive though and all for a few movies here and there on disc :man:

One other thing I have started to notice on certain blank screens such as the grey unobstructed backdrop of the Amazon app when you select a show and it's loading the next screen, is some image retention!

I was going to buy this on Friday (payday), typical the price has shot back up, any chance this'll come back down?

Some people are predicting that, as the new 2017 models are going to be priced above £3000, the price for the B6 might actually increase. Do you think that is likely as I am also hoping to buy the B6 if the prices drop?

It will, but you'll have to remain patient

Prices have increased now so that in a few weeks stores can say "Was £1999, now £1699, save £300" - which sounds alot better than "Was £1749, now £1699, save £50"

I see the current John Lewis offer doesn't include the free soundbar - any idea why? They agreed to price match with the soundbar offer on the weekend, valid for 28 days so hope they still honour it.

If I'm being completely honest, your guess will be as good as mine. That said, oled is rare in that it's dominated by LG, perhaps someone can confirm but I'm fairly sure they're the only makers of oled panels right now, that includes those panels going into competitors TVs too I believe. So it makes the pricing oddly resilient..for now. My old man bought his 55inch oled 1080p couple of years back, it's now half the price he paid so things still drop price. While oled acts a little different in cost, there's no reason to believe it won't come down, be it slower. You will have an epic oled, just hang there and hopefully the price drop will come very soon. ☺️

Should we expire this? I'm really annoyed I didn't get this deal. I tried it on at currys and RS and they were having none of it. You can't get this bundle for less than 1999 now - that's the price everywhere. If someone can find me it at 1699 I will buy you a pint!!

Update - you can get this deal from Argos using the TV10 code for £1799 - but only standard warranty which is a deal breaker for me :disappointed:

Guys hold off buying this TV - They have put the price up to 1999 for a brief period to make the Easter sales look better.

Was £1999 now £1699. £300 off sounds better than £50 off doesn't it. I reckon first week in April this is finally going to hit the magic £1500 mark. The crappy free sound bar deal will be over and they will have to make real price reductions.....
niceguyrick
23 Mar 17 #113
Thanks very much for that. Hopefully sonicdeathmonkey is right and Easter sales will see the reductions we've been waiting for

Richer sounds will price match online companies and I got mine for 1779 as they price matched https://www.hificonfidential.co.uk/lg-oled55b6v-55-hdr-with-dolby-vision-oled-tv-free-5yg?language=en¤cy=GBP&gclid=CjwKEAjwwcjGBRDj-P7TwcinyBkSJADymblTJfQ98GS0Su0vzyIN2Uu7IGPXzQyLF83XnUu5UPXJkxoC5Yrw_wcB and then give you an extra 20 cheaper for their price beat promo.

https://www.richersounds.com/information/pricebeat

Plus you get the 6 year warranty ... happy days
