I hate to be 'that guy' but as someone who owns both an iPhone 6 and a 5s (the latter is a work phone) this phone will probably be obsolete come September/October when the new version of iOS comes out.
Even today the 5s is much slower than it should be with the latest version of iOS installed, and the 16 gig memory is severely limiting. I mean severally. You'll likely fill it up with a few dozen music albums and a couple of months worth of photos.
You'd be slightly foolish to spend £200 on this really.

Why are people so closed-minded? People *want iPhones*. I'm sure that really annoys a lot of people on here - people love to spend their time worrying what's on other people's plates, don't they.
I have two relatives in need of an iPhone upgrade. I have first-hand experience of a 5S recently and they still run great.
NO, A ULEFONE, MOTOROLA OR SAMSUNG GALAXY FLEUR FOR 50P WILL NOT DO - these people like to FaceTime family abroad, Airdrop-share photos to each other and use iMessage. Sure, they could entirely change their ways and migrate everything to a different app or service just so they can satisfy people by buying an Android but you know what? They don't want to - they like using their old iPhones.
Clearly these iPhone buying people are complete idiots who should have their right to vote revoked, but you know what - it's their choice. It's funny how people like to project their phone usage, wants and needs on other people as if their experience is a common trend among all sections of society. Not everyone downloads a lot of games or even takes a lot of photos. A lot of people still store next to nothing on their phones. For those people, 16GB is actually quite a lot.
For the record I run Android devices - I have an S7 Edge and a Lenovo P2 at the moment. I prefer many things about Android but I can at least acknowledge that to some people 16GB of storage an iOS-toting 5S are an absolutely fine fit for £200 - and it is no one's right to tell them otherwise, much as it might induce anger in people who spend more time worrying about other people than themselves.

Ignoring the warranty situation for a moment i.e. buying new from a store vs buying new from ebay; can anyone tell me whether spending around another £80 and getting the iPhone SE (on ebay) would be a better option than getting this one? From online reviews it would appear so but if anyone has any experience in this area I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

I paid £260 for an iPhone SE 64GB unlocked from an online shop (not eBay) with 6 months warranty so they are available and given that £60 more, even for storage alone it is worth it. If you factor in the increased speed it's a no brainer - many tests show the SE in front of the 6s for speed and battery life.
alexc100 to Diggler01
3 Mar 17#33
SE would def be your best option. It has double the RAM and 40% ish more processing power. It's much faster than the iPhone 6 even.
But avoid the 16 gig version.

I have a second hand one. If you don't mind a couple of marks on it, they go for about £100 on eBay.
Things they don't have: no Apple Pay, and no VoLTE. The latter required for 800MHz 4G coverage on EE and 3 (better indoor coverage etc)
Might just be mine but the battery soon dies under load e.g. Pokemon Go.
They're getting on a bit, but do perform well enough and are not a bad option if you like a cheap phone - better than a cheap Android IMO.

Often I vote cold by accident. This time I voted hot by accident! I really think people should think twice about spending £200 on this. The memory is tiny and the 5s is pretty much at the end of it's life - it certainly will be come the next major IOS.

£139 refurbed like new probably with 11 months apple warranty on the o2 refresh at the moment, £120 for one with less warranty all come with o2 12 month warranty. Have a few hoops to go through and unlocked for free. They also have the SE for £220, some might look down on the refurbs but the reality is most are brand new and many of us on here got 5S for less than £100 last year and the quality was amazing.

Ice Cold - £200 for a 3 and a half year old phone, with an awfully small battery (1560 mAh), poor storage space and 1gb of ram.
Much larger 2800 mAh battery, same storage and double the ram - it's much more future proof, even for kids who might want to play Pokemon Go for example.

A big word of warning about buying refurbs from Argos. Whomever is supplying Argos seems to be giving Argos Japanese imported iPhones. What's the problem? Not much. The only issue I found with my Japanese iPhone is the camera shutter sound!!! I had to return mine to Argos and they took their time taking it back.
In Japan, it's illegal to take photographs without a shutter sound and so it's hard-programmed into the phone. It's extremely annoying if you're in a shop and trying to take a photo for example - everyone turns around and looks at you. So just be careful and check your model number if you end up buying one of these Argos refurbs.

3 Mar 171#49
I picked mine up from Argos this morning. Tried with 3 sim first, then with O2-UK and also with another EU country sim and all worked fine. It may have something to do with the fact that 3 no longer lock their phones so as long as you pop in 3 SIM card first, it stays unlocked... who knows?

3 Mar 17#53
Doesn't mean they are awful value for money. They have held their price in the market because they are a reliable phone. And the refurb phone was most likely to be £100 cheaper than a factory sealed box, so £100 drop per year is acceptable is it not?
But much faster.. for what?! I have a 5 for my personal phone and a 6s work phone and for just general usage - web browsing, some apps, youtube - there is basically no difference!
Regards memory, everything is moving more towards being cloud based anyway, so you only need enough for photos and apps so 16gb is enough for most people.
There's less and less reason to upgrade to the latest phones these days, unless you 'just have to have the latest one' because you're a sucker!

Google iphone insert Three SIM first to avoid locking, also iphone 5 16GB runs latest IOS version without an issue, latest update installed last week no issues at all and it still looks/works great, was purchased almost 3 years ago as an Argos refurb and it was like new in every way. So I can't see that a 5S would have an issue.

issue isn't what its like now it will be after the update later this year and then maybe next years when it may not be supported, better phone is the SE through the o2 refresh for a little bit more. Saying that this could all change if any updates to then range are announced in the next couple of weeks at the next Apple event. Could see the SE getting even cheaper as they clear out the smaller versions. Don't buy into the 16GB thing myself, there are 3 16GB phones in our house and none of us have any issues, even going from a 32GB one, its the same with ipads, good management of the device and you have plenty of space.

I'd be inclined to agree with the price, its a bit old to command £200. However, is still a quick phone and its not a demand that you must run ios 10; you don't need the latest ios everything will work on ios 9 or even 8. or go the other way, if ios10 is the last os update, apps will still work for another 3 years. So not obsolete by any means. 16gb is pathetic though and is the reason i just upgraded my 5s to an se 64gb for £300 refurb. I'm a massive fan of the design of the 4/5/se

That's second hand though. You can't compare the two in my opinion. You can get a second hand car for a lot less than new too. This is an offer open to all on a new product.
A phone selling forum I go on had a mint S7 Edge with all the accessories for £280 yesterday - reliable seller too - and I recently picked one up from Cash Generator for £339. Doesn't make all new offers on the S7 Edge overpriced though as (in my opinion) they can't be compared.
The 6 might be too big for some people anyway - I know two people who even think the 5S is too big and stick with their iPhone 4S as a result!

Better ask JL to price match.

(this was an 'insert joke here' kind of comment)
But avoid the 16 gig version.
But saying that, we can but live in hope though I guess ...
(been there .. got the Tshirt)
Buy a Motorola Moto G4 Play for £85 cheaper: https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Mobile-Phones-Smartphones/Motorola-Moto-Play-SIM-Free-Smartphone/B01IF51GYU/
Much larger 2800 mAh battery, same storage and double the ram - it's much more future proof, even for kids who might want to play Pokemon Go for example.
Regards memory, everything is moving more towards being cloud based anyway, so you only need enough for photos and apps so 16gb is enough for most people.
There's less and less reason to upgrade to the latest phones these days, unless you 'just have to have the latest one' because you're a sucker!
get a moto play for £80.
before Apple dappers come out I have a macbook so please don't burn me.
I guess people would buy a turd for £200 as long as it was painted white and had an Apple logo.

Great for a buy it now with no hassles, but personally I thought my iPhone SE on a O2 refresh deal was miles better (but a lot more hassle to get with O2 :disappointed: )
Cheers for posting :sunglasses: (voted hot)
A phone selling forum I go on had a mint S7 Edge with all the accessories for £280 yesterday - reliable seller too - and I recently picked one up from Cash Generator for £339. Doesn't make all new offers on the S7 Edge overpriced though as (in my opinion) they can't be compared.
The 6 might be too big for some people anyway - I know two people who even think the 5S is too big and stick with their iPhone 4S as a result!
O2 have this for £153.99.
