It won't be running Gingerbread though - that predates Honeycomb and Honeycomb predates the Memo. I believe it launched with one of the iterations of Jelly Bean and ended up with KitKat, but I can't remember if it got that far.

But this one's great and so was my Asus Memo Pad 10. Don't think any company has flawless QC - think Samsung. My Memo Pad is currently in the nursery, on 24/7 and no reboots ever. Think that's on Android gingerbread. The Asus Zenpad 3s 10 is used for family stuff and hasn't had a hitch. If it receives Nougat it'll be great but it's a fantastic tab without it. Anyone who really wants Nougat on it will find a way and takes the rough with the smooth on experience if it wasn't a direct update.

Some historical insight for you into Asus tablets and Android tablets in general before folks start paying this sort of price...
1) The Asus tablet support is dreadful. They now have a reputation which is completely deserved, for not supporting their hardware with OS updates
2) Random reboots have been a feature of all Asus android tablets since the 2011 TF101
3) Virtually every Asus tablet has been know to suffer from cracking screens (except for the tf101). In every case Asus do not repair this under warranty, always citing poor handling by the end user
4) Google have dropped the Nexus range
5) Google have effectively dropped the Pixel Android tablet

In short, Android on tablet devices is now in a worse situation than it has ever been. I understand why a lot of Android fans will never buy Apple. That is up to them, but with Windows and Chrome OS devices available at this price point, anyone who buys this is just daft in my view.

Another vote for this... I bought mine and sold my Nexus 9 (16gb) fed up with the minimal memory. This has been excellent, great screen inside the house, good sound, memory cards, plug in flash drives... much easier than the Nexus. Use it every day... in 3 or 4 months had two freezes that have been very hard to recover from. Reset pinhole doesn't seem to easily do its job. Couple of spontaneous reboots. Not bad at all. Cost me £249.

this is running android 6.0 by the way, so don't expect to get multitasking like newer tablets

it's payday today and my wallet is twitching... Been looking for a good spec 9-10 inch tablet with a good quality screen as a comics reader. we'll see tomorrow morning :smiley:

I bought one of these at Christmas, I'm very happy with it. The only slight niggle is that there is no root available, so I cant remove some of the annoying Asus bloatware in the stock ROM.

I bought this over the Tab S2 9.7" for the following reasons:

Price - it was considerably cheaper - I paid £250, £150 less than the Samsung.
More RAM - 4GB vs 3GB
USB-C - I already had this for my Nexus 6P phone, it's a vast improvement over the micro-USB connector on the Samsung.
