Because the EU is banning the phosphates in April 2017 and so all brands are being or have been reformulated to be inferior and foamy. This was because the big players such as P&G patented the replacements and so lobbied banning of current ingredients for exclusivity - that's how it works.

Hmm, I wonder if that's why my dishwasher has been leaving white deposits on some of my stainless steel items for about six months, I'd assumed the resin in the softener unit had had it as the machine is quite old.
