Also available for same price: Epiphone Les Paul Special VE Vintage Edition - Vintage Worn Vintage Sunburst https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01G26RAV2
I had a guitar tutor some 20 years ago who swore by these, he said that he had more expensive guitars but cheap epiphones were his day to day guitars as he wasn't worried about getting scratches on them.
At the time, I'd just paid £160 on a Squier Strat, i had that guitar for years and it was a pile of cack, I remember having a go of his and and wishing I'd bought one, though I think his was an SG and cost about £220.
The reviews for these are pretty good, for a little more you can get an SG! Who knew guitar prices had dropped so much? Get 'em before brexit.

So you reckon they've improved with age? Mine arrives today, I ordered the vintage one.

Not improved im afraid in fact if you still have the squier I would stick with that, these are not great guitars, poor materials and workmanship I wouldn't even recommend for a beginner.

I think you'd have to look hard to find critics of the Epiphone Les Paul Special II, other than the post above, that is. They're very highly rated guitars for the price - check out the many reviews on YouTube for example.

Most, perhaps almost all far eastern made low cost guitars have improved over the last 20 years, Cort, WMI and Samick are really very good at what they do, and a lot of the old brand names you see on guitar headstocks have come from just these three manufacturers.
If the Epi serial number has EE or EA then it is made at Qingdao factory which is also very good.

The "Technical Details" section in the Amazon listing state "Country Produced In: USA"

Cheap guitars have massively improved thanks to quality control and technology. If you can get a Yamaha Pacifica cheap, that's a great starter guitar, but these should be good too. We bought an Epiphone Genesis last year, after seeing the deal on here, and it's a great guitar.
