for all the active ingredient is fluoride so dependent on the concentration it doesn't really matter if it's this or some budget brand it's much like ibuprofen or paracetamol I.e. it's about the active ingredient

For the same reason you would use Oral-b, Colgate, etc. You are assuming the toothpaste is not good because, just a guess here, it's cheaper compared to other brands or you are not familiar with the name/brand?
Crest is made by the same American company that makes Pampers diapers, Head & shoulder shampoo. I think they also make Gillette, Braun and Oral-b, and these products are sold all over the world.
I think the problem here is that they have not invested in advertising as others big brands to brainwash people.

Thanks for posting. I edited the thread assumping it was 6 for £1 but you've edited saying they are 16p each, so if these are 16p each why are they not charging 96p for 6?
