It's just over 6 inches in length for those wondering. Amazon have helpfully shown it beside a man's crotch for illustrative purposes...

Sorry didn't word it well at all. I have been buying 2tb sky boxes from gumtree, Facebook and spock. remove the hard drive and test in a computer if it's good you have a 2tb hard drive for hardly anything. sky q has made the 2tb boxes dirt cheap to buy. they are video drives so ok for just churning away in a server they do have some powered on hours but not much power on times. Otherwise £45 plus on ebay a pull from a server or sky box between £5 - £20

Could you tell me a bit more about how you're using Sky boxes as a microserver?

Cancelled, time to complain and get some free months of prime. Two cancellations of two pricing errors within a few days :disappointed:

They don't have to give you anything for free. It's a gesture of goodwill unfortunately.

I'm rolling along with 4*4TB WD Greens I got from the warehouse a couple of years back for £55ea
I buy almost all my hard drives from amazon warehouse and they've all arrived working perfectly and some were even sealed and brand new. just saying.

I'd second this, IMHO people are FAR too fussy about hard drives with lots of "oh! don't purchase hard drives from Amazon Warehouse" "don't purchase recertified hard drives" etc. I have purchased both types and had absolutely no trouble at all and have had new drives fail sooner, not that I have had many drives fail on me anyway, maybe 3 in 20 years using lots of drives with computers and consoles so hardly bad going. I know HDDs can go bad and sods law says it will be when you haven't backed up in a while but IME hard drives are a lot more reliable than people give them credit for, had more memory problems than I have had with hard drives....
Add to that the fact that Amazon are often extremely conservative when describing the condition of warehouse items, presumably to minimise complaints and returns e.g. I have had items with condition as low as good used actually come brand new and sealed and even had a only "acceptable" PS4 with literally one mark on the entire console!

Am I the only one who thinks this is a pricing error and will therefore be cancelled?
and aren't they phasing out the Se for the Gold series ?

You forgot to highlight the great selling point of residual water or water marks:smile:

There are a few 5TB blue drives in the warehouse with the condition described as:
Used - Very Good
Item will come repackaged. Products that have been water tested may contain residual water or water marks. Products that have been factory tested may contain traces of coffee in the mill. All purchases eligible for Amazon customer service and a 30-day return policy.

Thanks, ordered 3 for my new nas. Seems a no-brainier if they're cheaper and better than reds...
So what does yellow/Enterprise Class actually mean at the end of the day?

Longer MTBF (mean time before failure) plus rated for higher durability / workload / temperatures / performance
They are sometimes louder than the consumer grade parts though be warned

You pay more and the switch that is built in to make the consumer drives break for no apparent reason after 18-24 months has been removed.
Supposedly they are rated for continuous duty type scenarios.
For example, the Seagate 8TB SMR drive that is very cheap is only rated to 180TB of transfers per year, which is ridiculously low when you take into account that it may be backed up once a week that's already 400 odd TB. (worst case scenario assuming full but even at 50% that is going over the 180TB).
These enterprise hard drives are rated for multiples of this.
It's all in the specs if you want to compare yourself though, 2 min google should give you the pdf you want to see.

I agree their descriptions and grading for warehouse items is completely random at times, however Amazon's customer service is second to none and for that reason alone I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from them (specifically shipped/fulfilled/sold by Amazon items, which is all warehouse items)

You must be a very lucky person. You are quite right about the RMA though. Done the same myself in the past and at this price I would go for it provided that was a certainty.
It's still comical the state of things that come from the warehouse line, look at the feedback score, that says it all really.

aaaaand Amazon will instantly give you a no questions asked refund, before they even receive the product back.. so what's your point?
derp1664
18 Mar 17#17
Care to elaborate? I have had several all which have been fine, despite bad packaging at times.
Also WD warranty is direct to customer so the drives generally still have almost full warranty. I see no problem here.

For the record I bought a 'Used - Good' hard drive from Amazon a few weeks ago which turned out to be brand new & sealed. Completely random their grading for warehouse items at times

For every one of these anecdotes there's 10 "like new in original packaging" that were not in original packaging and not in a condition fit for a respectable retailer to be selling.
Word of warning though sometimes their packaging for hard drives is awful. I've had them arrive in an empty box with a tiny bit of screwed up paper for 'protection' on more than one occasion
