I know but it's important to point out that that route is not exclusively operated by Virgin and so people might still buy the wrong tickets
edit: sorry, are you saying you think they'll reward you for buying tickets on a non-virgin service?

You can purchase a virgin only single from Manchester to Stockport. Even if you purchased a normal single, however , it would count.

That's still dodgy advice.
Manchester to Stockport is serviced by Northern, Crosscountry, Transpenine and Virgin (and possibly others but that's all the different operators I found on just one page of results)
You have to be sure you are booking on a Virgin service

I saw this email and (as I do with most) just deleted it haha.
Have gone back and booked a Manchester - Liverpool train for £3.
Would be nice to get £10 worth of points for a £3 spend, true. If all else fails however, a train to Liverpool for £3 isn't to be sniffed at - cheaper than the petrol to drive there anyway.

Won't work as Liverpool to manchester is not operated by virgin west coast. Book something like a child ticket from Manchester to Stockport and that will count, and be very cheap. You needn't actually use it or get it.

Do note that the offer is valid for Virgin trains only. Tickets booked via Virgin website for trains operated by other operators (such as London Midland, etc) do not qualify for the bonus.

I opted for a London to Birmingham child ticket for £2
It would probably work on a non-sale ticket but for the sake of a few pence this ticket will be easier to get the points added on live chat when they don't go on automatically

West Coast Mainline only? It doesn't say £4 is the minimum either. Can someone state which journey is best to do? As in buying tickets just for the points not to actually travel.

£10 admin fee to change the date of a ticket is outrageous. Virgin are a disgrace. This so called birthday sale doesn't in any way make up for their ripoff fares the rest of the time.
