I suppose it holds about 100 litres and a cubic metre of water is about £3.60 to buy, so the payback time would be about 13 cycles. Since it does not rain when the butt is empty, maybe a couple of years payback, which is not too bad.
Compare with one priced at about £25, which could take years to pay back.

Its also about the quality of the water. Some people collect rainwater for their aquariums. I like rainwater for my plants. tek monkey(?) likely collects if for his pond.
