This appears to be the offer that's for people going to NEC group events. You could be asked for proof that you're going to one of their events when your ticket is checked.

Once you’ve booked your ticket, you must show your event ticket/registration, along with your Virgin Trains ticket when on board for your discount to be valid.

It says 'use this discount for ANY trip you like'

Load of nonsense. Most people would look and see the cheapest fare and book that. I'd argue all trip long with the gripper if he asked to see a ticket to a show. Or 'I booked my tickets online and they are waiting for me at the box office I just need to show the credit card I paid for them with' He can't argue with that.

You can use for ANY trip on which the code works, The e-ticket makes no mention of the EVENT TICKET being required, it just mentions the NAME of the passenger, and requires the ID of the named passenger along with the ticket.

Would you be able to clarify who the discount offer is from then as the link takes it to a nec discount code but without a virgin webpage with the information about it on .. Many thanks for any help you can give with this as its a great discount but I'm just worried about the terms as don't have a direct email link to show the ticket inspector as you do.

Also you say at post 8 what the email said in full. But your image doesn't contain the weblink attached to the deal. Where did the link come from? Just that there are loads of virgin weblinks floating around with 25% off, all of which seem to require event tickets. Your post 8 suggests it can be used for 3 months after an event but there must be more terms and conditions of whichever company posted that offer.

Subject to that, all seems very risky to me an inspector will demand an event ticket and charge the difference if not. I have checked with Virgin and they insist you need an event ticket from ticket factory events (not necessarily the NEC). But for this to be a deal, people need to know what the actual terms are to confirm they don't. I've bought two tickets in the belief anyone could use this offer so won't be too happy if not!

I've decided not to risk it as the e tickets said corporate with the discount code on the bar code info and managed to persuaded virgin to amend the tickets even though they were non refundable... Cost me £40 though

I called virgin up about it.... you would absolutely be asked to see a show ticket that is linked with an NEC event of some sort. When you check the prices its states its an NEC discount and when you click on the tens and conditions it does state this too. I wouldn't chance it at all. there is more than 3 of us travelling on advanced tickets so you get 20% off anyway, that'll do for me!

I travelled yesterday using this but I wasn't checked on the train - only when boarding - so can't confirm how easy it is to travel with.

I was however armed to the teeth with the info above from batezy.

Here's what I think is going on here. The OP receives a personal to him offer from ticketmaster for 25% off Virgin fares, but with no show ticket needed. Probably due to having bought tickets from TM before or being on their mailing list. TM have an offer for anyone at the moment allowing 25% off fares, to a Virgin destination provided you are going to a show at one of TM/NEC group venues/bought your ticket from TM. But the OP's offer doesn't require a show ticket. The OP shares his discount weblink here, without mentioning TM nor explaining where the offer comes from and puts up his offer screenshot. But it's only legitimately usable by him. Two people, including myself, at posts 17 and 18 query the deal, the OP doesn't answer the questions but just posts TM's email to him where they confirm HE can use it for any journey without a show ticket. Clearly noone else can use it! Why would Virgin and TM run a deal allowing anyone to get 25% off Virgin fares for no reason! This thread really should be closed. It could have been avoided if the OP had checked properly before posting and once people started to get confused and query it. Virgin have said you need a show ticket (ie everyone else), which is what I then did to cover myself. If you don't have one nor the offer email to you from TM, worst case is you end up having to buy a completely new ticket at on board fares!

Don't be put off posting them batezy - this was a good deal particularly with the legwork you've put in to support it (emails etc.) which I would've showed to the inspector had they asked

Polite response Batezy I give you that. But what I wrote stands entirely accurate in the zero detail given until people questioned it, particularly given Virgin themselves state a show ticket is required, as do TM terms and conditions. That's why I believe it's an offer just for those who receive the offer email or bought a show ticket previously.
Constructive suggestion: why not re-email TM: all you need to ask is can anyone use the 25% discount link, without having a show ticket at their destination? And until when (that screenshot says it ran for three months)?
And to MrMini- of course he's had pushback, as mentioned Virgin and TM terms contradict what he's said, which is no joke when you risk your ticket being invalid! That's why this needed carefully checking before posting. I had to get a show ticket and another guy had to change his ticket after the offer was first posted and assurances were made no show ticket was required. Noone is going to use this deal if they don't have faith they won't get fined on the train. If the OP really wants to be helpful, he could resolve this very easily.
