Having just read the up to date reviews, I will give it a miss thanks.
I have this and the batteries charge in around 45 min. You get 2 batteries which last about 25 min each so that's 50 minutes usage time in total combining the 2. How long does it take you to vacuum your home ffs!!
As for not being able to use with a power cord, that's the blooming point, it's a CORDLESS vacuum cleaner. Honestly I give up

Having just read the up to date reviews, I will give it a miss thanks.
I paid £45 in Sainsburys recently for the handheld (with battery), so this is a very good price.
However the 2 batteries only go to extend the time on the larger cleaner (20+ minutes per battery) and not the power it has, which is fine for the handheld as a dustbuster, but I worry about the strength of the upright using only battery power.

Quick question it says ' 1 x Vax Air Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner (no battery) '
Does that mean i would have to buy batteries for the Handheld Vacuum?

The Air™ Cordless Handheld is super lightweight and easy to use so you can clean quickly and easily transport it from room to room or even out to the car. Although sold without batteries, it is powered by the same batteries provided with the Air Cordless Upright Vacuum.
I have one of these. It's ok for small items. Anything bigger, slightly damp, or hair, and it'll get repeatedly stuck. The design of the inlet is just so stupidly small, that when that's blocked, it just doesn't suck anymore (so it sucks...).
Where it shines though, is corners and stairs. The inner bit lifts off and you can carry it around like a Ghostbuster backpack, sucking up dirt as you go (or whatever floats your boat, I'm not judging).
It comes with 2 batteries, so 1 can be put on charge, while the other is in the machine. One has enough juice to clean the carpets and vinyl in a medium sized 3 storey townhouse.
Forgot to add, I brought it for £200 about 2 years ago. £80 is a ridiculous price for this vacuum.
Rob_B
14 Feb 171#13
The 'worth' price is ridiculous as the upright is always around £100.
We have it and it's good for light work but struggles with heavy work, the filter need regular cleaning and it does fill pretty quickly. That said, it's well worth £80 for the set.

I've been a vax user for years and always thought they were good value. The last one though - I just couldn't believe the poor quality and design. Vax TBTTV1T1 SlimVac 22.2v Total Home.
I cannot comprehend why anyone would pay the rrp of £280 never mind the £80 I spent on it.
If this is the way Vax are going I'd avoid or at least go and view the item before buying.

Ordered, thanks OP. I sent the Vax Stick back to JL at Christmas because although lightweight just wouldn't pick up grit when used with the extension. It also clogged easily with fluff. In fact my old Dyson needs to be unblocked so I'm not put off by negative reviews as I think this is a common issue with efficient cleaners. The small handy vac is a bonus. The 6 year warranty swayed it for me.

WHICH? says for the Vax Air Cordless DUO U86-AL-B
Unimpressive and best avoided 45%
PROS
Easy to use, except in the car, large canister, decent battery life
CONS
Poor at picking up dirt from most surfaces, leaks fine dust back out, noisy, heavy
Whereas for the Vax Air3 Agile U87-AA-BE pricing at £100 (corded & bagless)
Outstanding but not 100% perfect 79%, a best buy.
PROS
Brilliant at giving carpets and traditional floorboards a thorough clean, good on smoother laminate flooring, superb at securing fine dust particles within the canister, terrific pet hair pick-up, very energy efficient, easy to empty the canister
CONS
Noisy, quite tricky to move around, not well-suited to cleaning stairs

Bear in mind which only test on hard floors and are no longer impartial as they do accept payments from the product suppliers now. If they call this heavy why didn't they say the same about the Dyson which is over 2kg heavier?

I have the lift version of the upright which is almost identical to this one and have to say I've been impressed with it. Yes it only has a relatively small capacity but in a way that's good as by emptying it regularly (a doddle) it performs well consistently.
It's a huge improvement on the Dyson we had before, the one thing I would say is it doesn't perform as well on hard floors as it does on carpets.
The 2 battery's alone would cost more than £80 to buy so I'm tempted to get this just for spare batteries

I think there is a reason why this vac is going from 280 to 80, see tons of these type of deals on amazon with silly RRP prices and then suddenly on special offer etc
Not got one of these but have bought similar cordless type vacs and frankly they have less power then a corded £40 vac off the Asda shelf.
If you are buying any vac, try and get one you can test run and return if its no good like Amazon since half of these are not fit for its purpose.
I have had several vax vacuums and other vax products that my family has used. Regarding this product I can compare to other stick like vacuums from aeg and morphy Richards i have owned and it compares well with them. What people have to understand is its a cordless vacuum you cannot compare it with a corded vacuum. All these vacuum are rubbished compared to corded in terms of suction and pickup. What they do offer is a cordless light pickup for small jobs and occasional spills kids making a mess. It's also good for elderly and people who have difficulty in working with heavier machines. I cannot compare it with the Dyson handheld but the ones I have had or owned all do the same job more or less. The ones with bigger motors tend to be better on suction but still no where as good as corded. Regarding the company there is no better company for service I have come across my vax pet reach is coming to 6 years and it has had 4 replacements each time they have replaced the full machine or the body of the machine without a charge to me. They dispatch it instantly and it has come to me no later than a week at most. No other company has offered this level of service when a machine breaks down. The machines do break down my average has been 1 to 2 years but like I said no hassle replacement if it every breaks. Since it is a cordless and if you are using it for odd jobs you may use it less so the machine may last longer.

Stupid unsubstantiated comment. I love the bit where they say they only test them on hardfloors! Ridiculous! Cos carpets are so difficult to find these days! Vax are cheap and cheerful but not well built. You get what you pay for! And the suction on these is poor in comparison to a corded vacuum.

14 Feb 171#37
I have owned one of these cordless vacuums for over a year now and sold my cordless Dyson as I was so impressed with the performance and usability. My parents even did the same when they saw mine. I would never go back to a corded vacuum cleaner!
Its so practical and lightweight it means I find myself vacuuming more often and its so easy to do upstairs and downstairs without the faff of plugging and unplugging. I find the suction on it on a par with my corded Dyson - it has a turbo function for really dirty areas. Anyone that is complaining about reduced performance I would recommend three things; wash the filter as per the instructions, make sure that the hose doesn't get clogged and cut away any hair from the roller brushes as per the instructions.
Oh - and my house is mainly carpeted. Though one room is laminate and the kitchen is tiled and it works equally well everywhere.

I bought the Vax Cordless Air to replace my aging Dyson but Its an absolute piece of crap. How they managed to make such a weak motor astounds me, and I don't even know why they put it into production.
As a cordless vacuum its 'ok' but if you have animals it seems to just push a line of fur around the carpet unless you go over the same area a few times. It's total let down and if you are considering buying it for the separatable cylinder cleaner then please don't. I bought it for this reason and the motor is so weak at picking things up that you might as well use a dustpan and brush.
I mainly bought this vacuum so I didn't have to keep dragging the dyson outside but the suction is so weak that I ended up dragging it back out of the loft.
Hopefully the reason they are so cheap now is they are replacing it with something decent but I'm not holding my breath. Oh and did you know you have to wash the filter every 6 uses?

we have this for well over a year now it does need a bit of maintainance now and again clean filter and clean out pipes also take out rotating brush and pull off hair build up but its a great machine for an everyday quick hoover round, we do have a corded vacuum which comes out now and again for a good proper clean but we lve this for the quickness of it.
we do also have the handheld which is great for the stairs for a quick go over but to be honest its not great and wouldnt be any good for the car and again needs a good clean now and again especially the filter.

Whilst were cherry picking reviews here are some good ones - (4.2 out of 5 from 510 reviews on Amazon)
"Great Vac...reall love the swivel head....all vacuumes should have this , makes it really very easy to manoeuvre....
The two battery's are exelent......we have all hardwood floors downstairs and it works great, it is lightweight to carry upstairs where it works fine on carpets......but the big plus is NO CORD no trying to work around it , tripping over it etc.
Really glad we bought it.......have read other reviews about uncliping the hose at the back but we have not found it a problem at all.......so would we recommend it....( YES )"

"Impressive product! I bought this as it was on offer but primarily because I needed a lightweight more portable vacuum cleaner for my gite. The battery lasts forever (!) and the manoueverability is exceptional. It's great along edges and for going under small spaces, for corners you need to use the extension hose and tool but otherwise it cleans with power and speed."
endo123
14 Feb 17#48
"I like this vacuum cleaner! It is amazing how much a cord can actually slow down the vacuuming. By my estimation, it takes about half the time to vacuum using this.
A major advantage is that it isn't heavy. So it is easily manoeuvred around the house including up and down the stairs - something which I have never been happy doing with our dyson in our very old cottage with misshaped steps!
I can get about 45 minutes use from a fully charged battery which isn't bad, and it is easy to recharge.
In use, it is light and smooth to use. It is almost straight out of the box usage. Just clip on the handle and it's ready. Simple as that. It arrives with some power in the battery so it's ready to at least have a go with on arrival! It is easy to get under the coffee table and around the edges of the room. It was also a surprise how powerful it is. The only thing it has struggled with is an overwhelming amount of dog hairs on one patch of the carpet in the porch - but then every vacuum I've ever had has struggled with this including a vacuum made specifically with getting rid of pet hairs in mind.
Overall I have been really impressed. It is really very good for anyone who wants something that easy to manoeuvre in terms of lightness and without the inconvenience of dragging a cord around everywhere.
Recommended."

"Fantastic! I have had a lot of hoovers and all them got on my nerves, either dragging the nozzle with the heavy body getting stuck in doorways, to heavy uprights with short power cables. This one is light, very easily manoeuvrable, easy to empty, it has a higher power than I imagined with added boost too, the charge lasts ages, no cord and it even has its own headlight for seeing under things. I can't praise it more!"

just make sure you clean, wash, dry the filters every month or so (just a quick rinse and leave on the radiator overnight) and check the head for too much hair entanglement. i guess this would be for any vacuum.

CampGareth
15 Feb 17#71
No that's a pretty normal thing, if one battery can supply 1A then two batteries can supply 2A. Double the current so double the power for the motor so double the suction produced. Given the complaints seem to be due to a lack of suction maybe they should have allowed that instead of this weird 1 active 1 spare system, after all you spend less time vacuuming if the dirt gets sucked up first time around instead of the 15th.

15 Feb 17#72
I would forget about that particular worded statement and instead scroll down and screenshot the part of the page where the 'what's in the box drop down' is as that specifically states '2x Lithium life batteries'

We bought one of these in a previous sale, paying more for the vac alone, so this is great value. For us it's great, lightweight and easy to use, not being wired we're encouraged to use it more rather than faffing about: unwinding the cable, plugging it in, replugging it upstairs, tidying the cable when done. Instead, turn it on, use it, turn it off.
Can't comment on using it for heavy work, which seems to concern others, it does cope with the aftermath of grandkids and dog visits.
We spend nothing like 40 minutes vacuuming the house, so the battery lasts several days. Being able to pull off the working bits off makes the stairs and car easy.
As for customer service : not used it for this but we also have a carpet cleaner which we needed CS support, which was great.

Yes, they are interchangeable. The batteries seem to take about 45 minutes to charge, all in all very satisfactory.

I suppose you will not be buying one then! I did buy one, it arrived yesterday, the batteries took about 45 minutes to charge (each) and I've just used both machines to clean the sitting room, dining room, hall and stairs. I must say that both machines are just fine, plenty of power and easy to use - particularly on the stairs. We also have a corded Vax (model Air3), which is probably a little more powerful but is much heavier (than the upright) and of course has the inconvenience of a trailing cord. I suspect I'll probably not use the corded machine any more (it may get relegated to our holiday house in a few weeks time).
I can't comment on the longevity of the machines or the batteries yet, but both came with good warranties and Vax is a very easy company to deal with, so I don't have any particular concerns.
So, if anyone is interested: some real world experiences with the product, rather than hearsay.

Jesus - there's no need to be such a turd about it. Purchasing two products which turned out to be faulty from a company is enough reason for me not to purchase from them again. I'm not out to convince you of anything, you're clearly happy with their products even though you've had to return two of them - my comment would be of use to anyone unsure about purchasing from Vax. This wasn't said with speculation or idle chatter but from two separate experiences with two faulty products. You utter tool

At £80 for two machines from a reputable manufacturer I think this is a very good deal indeed. I've just noticed during an idle moment that there have been a few posts for Dyson machines at about 4 times the price. I don't doubt that Dyson machines are well designed, but I doubt they are worth a 300% premium (after all, these are just vacuum cleaners).

This is a fantastic deal. I bought one in their last sale for £99.99 and although not quite as powerful as a corded model it is extremely convenient to use and I am very pleased with it. If you need a bit more power, just use the boost button. As one replacement battery is £79.99, I'm buying this again just for the batteries.

Got mine today surprisingly good only has small bin seems to fill up fairly quick but imo that means its working well
Cant see why it gets complaints about having to empty regular surely that means its working well
Got boost button as well reviews dont seem to show one ?
Does seem to pick up well for cordless ,checked the filter after 15 min use still clean but bin nearly half full
Unlike some off the cheap bagless ones we have had in past ie bag just replaced with filter and blocks quicker than bag
would fill . Pleased with it and the handheld seems ok as as well
thanks for great find enlin

Hi,
I think you may have replied to the wrong post - I was the chap who bought one, had it delivered, has used both machines and am very happy indeed with both. Fearona was the guy who quoted lots of bad reviews and claimed it was rubbish.
I tend to agree with you though, it is easy to find a few negative reviews on any product, and I think Fearona has gone out of his (or her) way to do so. Having purchased both machines I'm happy with them and the service from Vax.

80 quid for both really isn't too bad and as an air3 owner I kind of know what to expect from vax. Functional but never going to be a Dyson. Taken the plunge thanks.

had it delivered yesterday and i must say its excellent, the boost button does all the work which a coded vacuum would otherwise do, and the second handheld does some nifty job as well. Well pleased with the purchase and would very highly recommend it.

I bought this very cleaner just after Xmas on Amazon in a lightening deal. I've checked pricing on this and this is a genuine deal for this product right now. Those calling this the normal price are incorrect.
I bought it following YouTube reviews, Amazon customer reviews, which are overwhelmingly positive (negative reviews can be plucked from any product, no matter how good it is), and trusted reviews who gave it 9/10, I wasn't aware of the more negative which review at the time. Any one source on its on would be unreliable but I felt there was enough very positive feedback that this would be a good buy.
Over 1 month on I'm very happy with the product. Suction appears to be one concern, yes it is not as powerful as a corded dyson, however I've not needed it to be and it's not short on power either, the boost function has not failed me yet. Which? called it heavy...that's a frankly bizzare statement as this is not at all heavy. I'm not sure what they expected, perhaps the polystyrene version will be out next year and this will appese their clearly feeble reviewer.
I find it excellent, we have carpets and vinyl and it does the job well on both. It's easy to get into small areas and along the wall edges. I love it's cordless nature too, which can't be credited to this cleaner as there are many cordless ones out there, but being able to just quickly grab it and go is very nice. The ability to remove the main unit to say take to the car to vaccum is another great feature.
However, I don't want to fanboy this up, I'm concerned about reviews regarding its build and long term reliability. Only time will tell. I also find the attachments don't fit on well enough and have a tendency to come off to easily, but as far as I'm concerned I find this vaccum overall pretty dam awesome and a great buy at this price.
With that now said, I can almost be certain that it will breakdown tomorrow thanks to the law of sod.

Worse over time I'm afraid, or maybe we just noticed it then.
I've had it since 2014 - though I know it's a 6 year warranty, I'm sure it's just a poor hoover (do some research, unlike me)

received mine today. I'm impressed with both the upright and handheld. both picked up a lot of dust on first try. Maybe I'm impressed because this are my first cordless and handheld...? ? nonetheless I'm going to keep and as will complement my Henry :man: suction is pretty good. did my whole house on one battery.

Well I ordered it, it came within 2 days and it is a fantastic hoover, It does pick up bits with no problem, I have 2 cats and it picks the hair up again no problem. The little hand held it also brilliant. People expect the same suction as you would get from a mains one, at the end of the day it is battery powered. All I can say it that I am glad I give it a try, 2 Batteries a 6 year warranty and a free hand held all for £79 a bargain me thinks.

As for not being able to use with a power cord, that's the blooming point, it's a CORDLESS vacuum cleaner. Honestly I give up

I paid £99 just for the cleaner in the last vax clearance in Sept.
Great for my home that only needs a quick once over or to use cleaning the car, etc.
http://www.vax.co.uk/air-cordless-duo-bundle
However the 2 batteries only go to extend the time on the larger cleaner (20+ minutes per battery) and not the power it has, which is fine for the handheld as a dustbuster, but I worry about the strength of the upright using only battery power.
Quick question it says ' 1 x Vax Air Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner (no battery) '
Does that mean i would have to buy batteries for the Handheld Vacuum?
Thanks guys

Where it shines though, is corners and stairs. The inner bit lifts off and you can carry it around like a Ghostbuster backpack, sucking up dirt as you go (or whatever floats your boat, I'm not judging).
It comes with 2 batteries, so 1 can be put on charge, while the other is in the machine. One has enough juice to clean the carpets and vinyl in a medium sized 3 storey townhouse.
Forgot to add, I brought it for £200 about 2 years ago. £80 is a ridiculous price for this vacuum.
We have it and it's good for light work but struggles with heavy work, the filter need regular cleaning and it does fill pretty quickly. That said, it's well worth £80 for the set.
I cannot comprehend why anyone would pay the rrp of £280 never mind the £80 I spent on it.
If this is the way Vax are going I'd avoid or at least go and view the item before buying.
Bought for my parents. Shame I already sent them link. They know handheld vacuum is included as well, I would like to keep it.
It's a huge improvement on the Dyson we had before, the one thing I would say is it doesn't perform as well on hard floors as it does on carpets.
The 2 battery's alone would cost more than £80 to buy so I'm tempted to get this just for spare batteries
One thing I hate about this hoover is battery protection. If you hoovered up wire and hoover stucks, battery switches off for few minutes. Good you have two batteries.
Not got one of these but have bought similar cordless type vacs and frankly they have less power then a corded £40 vac off the Asda shelf.
If you are buying any vac, try and get one you can test run and return if its no good like Amazon since half of these are not fit for its purpose.
http://www.vax.co.uk/lithium-life-battery
Bought a Vacuum cleaner from them in the last sale, next to no suction from day one and keeps clogging with just small amount of dust and support was really bad.
If you change the batteries in your TV remote does it make the TV louder?
No... No its doesn't!
Oh and did you know you have to wash the filter every 6 uses?
we do also have the handheld which is great for the stairs for a quick go over but to be honest its not great and wouldnt be any good for the car and again needs a good clean now and again especially the filter.
Can someone confirm if the 2 batterys you get with the upright are interchangeable? Without a battery the handheld is totally useless..and that "sucks"!
We have six Vax machines in our family, have had two replaced without question using the warranty. Excellent service, and the vacuums SUCK like F..K.
Nice find OP thanks, ordered as a second hoover for upstairs.
just make sure you clean, wash, dry the filters every month or so (just a quick rinse and leave on the radiator overnight) and check the head for too much hair entanglement. i guess this would be for any vacuum.
( same brand as goodmans, Panasonic, beldray, Eveready)
They are good, and do work well, but expect flimsy build quality / constant cleaning of filters / clearing blockages. Not knocking the deal al as its ok, but just saying.
Oh and my current vacuum is a Goodmans cheapo vacuum held together with elastic bands. because a clip snapped after 2 weeks of use and got fed up of returning fir same item.
They can't get away with not supplying 2 batteries with it being worded like that. Wait for the delivery to be made as I get the feeling the order receipt description is just ambiguous due to the word "bundle".
It just doesn't spin fast enough to go through diamond with only one battery attached.
Thanks in advance.
