Typical, purchased the VooDoo Aizan for £500 last night and they decide to offer 20% off the next day.. Some of the branded bikes on offer are a steal and delivery + assembly is free too. I believe many of the bikes can also be purchased with 12 month interest free finance.

Just picked up the Boardman hybrid comp for £338, bargain IMO for the spec, couldn't find a cheaper bike with hydraulic brakes.
Now to add a bbs02 and blast the hell around Derbyshire.

Have you looked @ Shimano Alfine hub-geared models? Bit heavier, more expensive but less maintenance on gears.
I got Halford's own 13 Intuitive Gamma, probably the best value Alfine 8 at that time (last summer)...
Definitely worth looking at the Ghost Urban series, expensive by comparison, but as you said, you get all the essential stuff already fitted....

I'm about to replace a 7 year old hardrock, which has been faultless. I only really commute now with the odd bit of canal paths etc. so looking at hybrids. Any thoughts on Ghost bikes? Eying up one with integrated lights/dynamo/mudguards/panniers etc. but looks a tad heavy. Guess it would be after all that though!

Got a Voodoo Zobop in the summer and very glad I did. Replaced a Cube 29er that I never really felt that confident or settled with (more likely due to the 29" wheels rather than than the Cube deisgn), have loads more confidence attacking the trails with the Voodoo.
The components on it could do with upgrading, the frame makes up for this. It's really well designed, you can tell Joe Murray knows his stuff after decades of designing bikes.

Try a cube , I've had mine for 2 years and is a great bike with no faults on it at all . Lightweight solid bikes , 3 in the family and would buy cube again

20% off a RRP isn't really a deal in the world of inflated bike prices. Had a look and can't see anything exciting.
If you combine this deal with the discount stacking through BC membership and gift vouchers you may be able to get to a decent price.

20% off Halfords' 'normal' prices does not make for a bargain! Some of the bikes are OK (some are awful) but their RRPs are set up as the base from which to discount: usual high street false discounting trick.

I got the Boardman mx comp through cycle2work. My company gave me £200 free accessories with it too.
Currently £600 but the version down is £500 both good bikes I'd recommend.

I changed my GT to a Voodoo Hoodoo, brilliant bike, all rounder,use it mostly for riding through crap in the New Forest, it has never let me down, build quality is great, gears are also bullet proof, even though it gets washed off each ride the gritty sand played havoc with the GT but the Voodoo shrugs it off ( It will probably break in half tomorrow now I have said all this !!! ) Would definitely buy another esp in view of price (400 when I bought it a few years ago)

I have a Voodoo Bokor hardtail, highly recommended brand in my opinion. Had it for 6 years now , no problems at all.

voodoo are cracking bikes. I just picked up a aizan 29er from a friend and it's a nice bike, fast roller on roads and good front suspension for off road if needed.

We've got a Voodoo Bantu in our local Halfords that was apparently an ex demo bike. My mate who is a manager in a different store says that they don't have demo bikes... however the store tonight said it was used for doing some kind of video going through a woods somewhere.... Personally it seems like a return... However not in too bad a condition and it's £350 with 12 months of their bike care plan and 6 months guarantee. Anyone know if it would be useful for similar... a bit of off roading/canal paths etc. Fancy getting in to doing a bit again but found my old full suspension Saracen way too bouncy for normal use.

the reviews on the bike are a bit mixed on the Halfords website, I'm looking for a bike for mainly canal path/light trail riding (20-30 mile trips)
Any advice appreciated, as this bike might be overkill??

It all depends on your budget I guess but a hardtail like this would be more than suitable for light trail riding and commuting. From my own research it seems VooDoo have built a strong reputation in the <£600 mountain bike range. Markymark is right though I considered getting a Cube bike as they also have a good reputation. For a more entry level you could opt for a Carrera but I'd recommend a Specialized Hardrock myself, my old one lasted years and that thing could take a beating on trails considering its low price. It's also worth checking Bikeradar or Global Mountain Bike Network on youtube they have some great buying guides and offer comparisons for various price ranges.
