I was 18 and fuelled with lager and righteous indignation.
Towels left for hours offended me, so I justified the throwing in the pool by saying it was for 'poor kiddies and old ladies' so they could have a sun lounger.

So refreshing to read peoples' views on it here! Been wanting to go there for a while now, but reading nearly exclusively negative reviews from German visitors has made me shy away more than once. Maybe I'll finally give it a try!
this place is amazing! I am originally from that area and can only recommend it.
Make sure to NOT go in the summer though as it will be too hot. anytime between October - may is fine. after that it may get too hot and humid in there

having not long returned from Hurghada the german getting all the sunbeds is still a problem, so not just Mediterranean , u just have to try and beat them at their own game :smiley:

So, you are a normal Brit and were throwing towels in the pool, so what were the un-normal Brits doing?
I like to think I'm not "-ist" in any way.
But the classic holiday in the late 80s/90s was you'd go down for breakfast, the poolside would be totally empty, and every single sun lounger would have a towel on it.
When 'we' (ie, normal people) started to go on holiday abroad it was a complete eye-opener. They'd leave their towel on, go out for the day and then come back at 4pm to sit on the lounger....and then repeat the next day.
I think 'normal' Germans were going on holiday before 'normal' Brits and were just more wised up.
So while it might sound a bit Alf Garnet, it was born out of reality.
Hotels in the 90s started to implement policies where towels left for hours would have them removed.
Then when I started to go on holiday with my mates around the same time we'd just throw them in the pool.
I've not been on a package holiday since the 90s...no idea what it's like now.

It was built in the 90s for a modern airship company who went bust. Tropical Island was built in the 2000s.
I have been twice while visiting people in the area, it's a really nice place to visit and you could fill three days if you are into beach/water park stuff. The building is incredible, it's so vast with lots of different areas, you could spend a day there and not cross paths with other people. I'd suggest that children are not left unaccompanied since the lifeguarding is (IMO) quite scarce and liberal.
There is a new outdoor rapids that is frankly quite dangerous and would probably not be allowed in the UK :smile: Likewise they have a blue water slide that is pretty violent and has left me with bruises!

20-30 years ago in Spain the German's would put their towels on the loungers in the middle of the night. We used to get up early and through their towels in the pool. :laughing:

Do you know where this saying came from (I think Only Fools and Horses?) as I have never seen Germans nicking all the Sun Loungers ever, just curious if it is based loosely on any fact, or just the 80's UK Humour of taking the mickey out of the Germans?

I think its based on observation in mediterranean resorts, basically Germans are more likely to get out of bed earlier than the British. :smiley:
