The payment aspect of Humble Bundle is thought-provoking. We are providing money from the UK for bundles containing games from around the world and our money goes to the developers and Humble Bundle itself. It would be nice if there was a reasonably-sized UK-focused bundle site. I would imagine that the default charities do receive the bulk of the charity money, but the option is there in most bundles to search for and donate to UK charities. Maybe this deal (or separate thread?) is the place to share the major charities that people find that others could be donating to?
I've found: Oxfam UK, RSPCA, ROSPA, National Autistic Society, NSPCC British Legion, The Prince's Trust, Barnardo's Retail(?), RAF Benevolent Fund, pet charities, some hospitals and hospices, health/cancer charities such as CRUK, Macmillan, Marie Curie, Roy Castle Lung Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis Society and local charities, such as the Scottish Wildlife Trust.
But no Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth (except US), British Heart Foundation.
Even if you have a personal charity selected the bundle's charities, which presumably the developers approve of, are set up by default to receive some of the charity money allocated (though you can often switch it away from them).

Civ 5 is from 2010. Unless I really seriously overslept this morning we're not in 2025 yet.
Also these games are phenomenally well known to PC gamers so not like people need "warning" about it being turn based (as if that's a downside as opposed to a consistently popular genre in the PC community).

You can if you want select say Cats Protection as a custom charity,
but lower down the page you have to select "Choose where your money goes"
and reselect Cats Protection in the UK as the total beneficiary, (the little sliders thing)
otherwise half still goes to some American organisation (probably Hilary's campaign slush fund for the next election)
Great, $8 to my preferred charity and not some bogus refugee BS

Possibly because they are super cheap? I've bought about 15-20 games over the years that I've never played, but I wouldn't be surprised if some have purchased but never played over a hundred games (or even a few hundred)!

I think Civ 4 is the best game ever made, on any format!
I own 5 and 6, but still play 4 more. Pretty sure I've never played any game as much as 4. Can still happily hammer it for the entire day (not that I get many spare days to do so these days).

Civ 2 Call to Power was the highlight of the series for me. Hot-seat turn based gaming was great. I've played it on the net and on a lan since but having a few friends crowding around the same PC waiting for your turn was great fun.

Civ V with expansions (BTA tier) gets my vote, but Civ IV is also very highly-regarded. Beyond Earth is the latest in the series, but wasn't as well-received - of course, it's still a Civ game, so it's being rated against a high standard in the first place!
I hoped Colonization would be part of the bundle, even if it isn't a Civilization game as such.
Did they ever release that in a format that can be easily played on modern systems?

And it only costs 80p for Civ 4, allegedly the best of the lot (with Civ 5 coming close with its expansions). Not sure to what extent Beyond Earth is salvaged by its expansions?
Of course, but Civ VI is too new and successful for that to be realistic. The BTA tier will have more than enough content for a long while and Civ V is generally better regarded than Beyond Earth - but Beyond Earth is the newer game and you'll struggle to find the content of the top tier for less than the additional $7.50-ish minimum that it currently costs.

To an extent they share some mechanics with the turn-based strategic layer of Total War, but overall they're quite different. If you enjoy strategy games at all, I'd say go for this - you really ought to have at least some exposure to and understand of Civilization!

You need two tabs open for Humble. Keep one open with a reduced BTA price (usually 7:15-7:30pm) and then use another to monitor movement up or down.
If it starts rapidly increasing you can still checkout using the tab with the lowest price :sunglasses:

Not a bundle for me, as I already have everything aside from Beyond Earth and can't really justify spending the $15 for that when I'm not sure that I'd play it much (if/when I get bored of Civ V, I have Endless Legend and Age of Wonders III in reserve) - but the value's certainly there is you don't own these!
Also, 86p? Sterling's not *quite* dropped that low yet AFAIK - are you basing that off the poor rates offered by PayPal?
