Get a tent, blow-up boat and sleep on the beach claiming you were washed off course on route to Spain.
Sorted:p

Gran canaria is ok if you like holidaying with cockroaches, and I don't mean your partners hehe.

Must admit I saw them everywhere when I went once to Tenerife one year, but have been there 3 other times and only seen a couple each other time.
I guess they are hiding in all hot countries anyway, but I think it was the time of year and place I was staying when I did see then everywhere was prob not the best area as was on an 18-30 holiday (God what was a few years ago  ).

I found cheap flights at Christmas but didn't go as the accommodation was very expensive and minimal choice. I'm now going in the summer where the flight prices are more but the accommodation prices less, and more choice. The tent idea could work though

Hi yes Airbnb seem to be quite costly these days, homeaway had a better choice for the canaries and the fees are less
