It's crazy that soundbars are now seen as essential because TV speakers are considered bad. I'm waiting for the day I need a second screen so that I don't have to watch the screen that came with the TV

TV speakers are bad now-a-days because everyone wants slim TV's. Therefore the speakers don't have any depth which is essential for good quality sound. Not sure why so many people want their TV's so slim. Unless it's hung on the wall, who cares if it's 1 inch deep or 4?

You are correct as lowest price by a third party retailer was £49.99 but I am not sure if that includes postage or not. It's quite rare that I would ever buy anything electronic from a third party retailer off Amazon. Cheapest Amazon direct price was £54.99. This is a good price considering the reviews unlike the las160b which is dreadful.

No sub is a deal breaker. Not great for music or movies. Would most likely be an improvement over TV speakers though.

I bought this last year for similar price from Sainsburys.
it's not bad but it's not a massive difference from the tv speakers (sony Android) , and you hardly get any control over the audio like bass etc I think there's about 3 buttons on the remote I can't even remember now as it's shoved in a draw.
And the Android app to connect through bluetooth is useless they should be embarrassed  I managed to connect once for about 1 minutes and all the other times it fails to connect.

Quick comment for other non-techs (like me!) I bought an LG sound bar last year, and hated the sound because it was very echoy. Took me a day to realise that you need to go into your TV's settings and turn OFF the TV's own speakers. Now I'm very happy!
Hope this helps someone, wish I'd known it when i first hooked it up.

Reminds me of when I first bought a PS3 and an HD TV. Played COD for weeks thinking this HD malarkey isn't much better until a friend pointed out you had to change the video output on the PS3 to HD.

I've reserved one to pick up today..
I only want to use it to play music from my ipod/phone. Is it decent enough for that? Not too bothered about it being used as speakers for the tv. Just wanted something that has a good sound to it and isnt a pain in the backside to set up

Got one today. Doesn't seem any way to get it to play from my Samsung TV via bluetooth, so had to purchase a toslink cable from amazon for £3.50. Also brackets for the wall are £10.50 on ebay.

21 Feb 17#24
To clarify guys, I picked one of these up and it doesn't come with an Optical cable or wall mount.
However, it is a simple set-up. I've had no issues connecting to Bluetooth with my phone (my Samsung TV doesn't have Bluetooth but that's not the sound bars fault).
And lastly, in terms of sound quality, it's amazing for the price! I don't think you'd get better for this low end prices sound bar. You just have to set realistic expectations. It is 2 channel and no subwoofer so is always going to lack a certain "depth" of sound!
People just want to pay peanuts and expect gold in return.

I got one today and was very disappointed with the sound. Loud enough but if you want any bass forget it. Maybe ok for movies but I tested with music and my tv was better I do have a Samsung ue55ju7500t tv which has good sound anyway. I would say it was clear sound and loud but missing any depth. I will be returning Mine tomorrow not impressed.
Good for some.

Well your comment was after I had purchased I took a chance I knew it the back of my mind it was going to be rubbish for me but I gave it a shot. Looks like I need to spend £150+ for me to be happy. I won't be happy about spending the money so just won't bother

I wonder why the sound power is so low e.g 100W I have seen some sound abr have the power of 300 watt or higher. This is just one example of around 320 Watt
Is the total power of the soundbar advertised here in the UK is not 100watt but 2x100watt due to dual channels ??
donslibi
22 Feb 17#32
That's true but there's some really good value 5.1 systems. You get a lot more for your money than you do with the new soundbars. I think people are paying for the novelty. It's effectively like having the front 3 speakers in one casing, plus a sub. I'm actually using the centre and front L+R speakers and sub from a bluray system. Don't have the rear ones setup as I could do without the additional wiring. Cost me than than an equivalent soundbar setup.

I think you have a point. My brother in law has his tv connected to his music system. I can't remember the name now but its the old fashioned type from the 90's that had a separate amp, deck, cd etc with proper speakers. From the age before bluray players, smartphones and similar devices we are so used today. He has his tv plugged into the amp (no hdmi) as it hadn't been invented for his music system. The sound is amazing in comparison to most new systems that I have heard. Sometimes technology doesn't move forward but sometimes a little old technology mixed with new has a good result. For me though my own music system was made redundant when CD's came out which is a shame now as that amp and proper speakers could have been put to good use today.
Sadly without the separate sub I really don't think 100w is going to be very good. I have the 300w LG soundbar with sub and it is incredible.

It's perfect. What i did was i bought this to set up under my projector, ran an optical to my media devices, but ran it through a optical splitter which ran my 2.1 Logitech sound system into via a small analogue to optical converter.
Now i have 4.1 set up. 2 speakers behind me, a sound bar in front of me and a heftysub. All for sub 100 pound

I see why you've done that, but it will sound pretty rubbish for films/TV because the left and right channels in a 2.1 setup are designed to be in front of you. If you're duplicating those channels for behind you as well, the audio spatialisation will be completely off. For music, it will be OK.

11 Mar 17#47
You will never get a job in Currys/PC World if you tell people that haha. It makes me laugh when you listen to them saying you must spend £40.00 on an hdmi cable etc for it to be any good. Watchdog proved otherwise and like you go the same for optic cables.
I think you may find it was the LAS160B that was £42.00 in Argos. That would have been £42.00 wasted in my opinion as I bought it from Asda at £46.00 and took it straight back. Speakers better on my LG tv.

12 Mar 17#50
2 Channels means it only has two speakers , and quoted 100w will mean each speaker is 50 W.
It is not worth getting any speaker bar unless it also has a base woofer , preferable in a separate unit that you can install behind where you sit .
Save your money up and get a 5.1 ( 5 speakers and a woofer ) , other wise stick with the TV.

I only watch movies, and it sounds absolutely fine. Not a sound purest by any means so i really don't care about separate channels. I have 4 speakers all playing the same channel and a sub for less than 100 quid. I'm fine with that since i only use the sound system when people are with me, otherwise I just use my 5.1 wireless Sony headphones

I bought this a few weeks ago. nice sound, but does lack a bit of depth, missing a sub definitely.
only came with a power cable, so had to buy an optical cable. Also had to buy a seperate bracket off ebay costing another £10.
other than that, value for money, beats the sound off the TV handsdown.

I don't doubt what you say but the sound difference can all depend on what tv's people have and in some instances how it is mounted. I recently mounted a Samsung 32" K5500 inside a wardrobe in a bedroom. The sound was amazing, sounded like surround sound with the sound buffering off the shelf above, the chest of drawers below and the sides of the wardrobe. I wouldn't have believed just how good it was. I have a mid range LG tv in the lounge and the sound from the standard speakers is pretty good with it sat on a unit (not wall mounted) but it's all about comparisons. I bought the LAS160B, that's the lower 50 watt model. I took it back as the sound was terrible when comparing it to my LG. Now if I had a Polaroid or some other low end, low price tv then I may have found the soundbar better than the tv. I didn't try try the model posted as again LG have failed to put an infra red repeater on it which means the tv remote won't work. Why LG insist on putting the IR receiver in the middle of the tv at the bottom is crazy. Not everyone want to wall mount their tv. Reviews are very good for the model posted with very few negative reviews. Best sound I heard recently was a set up my brother in law has. He kept his old music system from the 90's and has his tv connected to the amp with four proper music speakers. Sound is amazing. No soundbar, no hdmi, no separate sub-woofer, just a retro amp and speakers with amazing result.

Can't fault this sound bar for £55 (£70 on Amazon but still £55 in Argos & Tesco).
More powerful than my TV's speakers and it points the sound at me rather than down towards the floor which helps.
Inexpensive bit of kit that is ideal for making your TV louder.

There's two little round lumps on the back that fit into it.
