20% account credit back in April if you buy a computer over £349 and select to buy now pay later (over 104 weeks - be careful to read the offer precisely on their site and select the right option) but must repay in the first 12 months or you'll get charged v high interest. You can only select this option if you have enough account credit limit to do so (have to have a high credit limit as they add the potential interest on when calculating if to let you order).
£749 with 12 months interest free
There's a 10% code off KNVYF for first time customers which brings the price down to 749, plus you can pay over 12 months interest free. As a new customer I got a 750 credit limit so went this route. Frustrating but still a good deal.

Worth saying I struggled to find these specs elsewhere at any where near this price. Very were doing i5 and i7 gaming Dells for similar but their screen is apparently really low quality and they were just SSD without the HD storage plus only a crappy Radeon 445 card unless you went for the 7000 models.
This seemed to have it all - quality IPS screen, good GPU (albeit 2gb rather than 4gb), 7th gen processor. Very are doing it at £829 with 10% credit back if you BNPL but they wouldn't offer me the 12 months for some reason so couldn't get the credit back.
What I really wanted was the ax002 which is the next step up with a i7-6700HQ. Very had that reduced to £899 which with 10% account credit would have been a bargain. Littlewoods had it at £999 with 20% account credit (so £799 overall) but my credit limit wasn't big enough for the "hypothetical" £1400 including interest. I phoned customer services and offered to pay a deposit but they wanted £750 up front to do it like that just so I could get the 20% off. Phsssk.
So worth fiddling with Very and Littlewoods to see which one offers you the right deals to get the right package at the best price. If you have the account credit to get the az002na for effective £799 with not having to pay anything for 12 months, I'd JUMP at that ..

Surely if they offered you 20% off paying 750 up front was a steal? £800 overall. Not good if you can't afford it, but then if you can't afford that then I wouldn't want to buy on credit anyway as you should always have about 1K laying around at least in case you need it.

In the market for a new laptop and have my eye on the 15-ax206na (similar specs but has an i7 and 4gb 1050ti). Only available direct from HP for £999 so far so waiting for it to become available from other retailers and see what deals they can offer first.

Yeah I know but I didn't like the idea of paying £750 up front, then having £750 showing as outstanding on my account, the having £200 credit applied then having to get a refund for £150 overpayment etc...too much faff even for this bargain hunter. I decided I didn't need the i7 model anyway as I'm not a gamer anymore - will mostly do photo editing on it.
Wanted to explain the option though to others who would want to play around with the discount options and do that.

Beware though because they had the 25% offer back in October and they've only just applied the discount to my account because of their incompetence. It's taken numerous phone calls, which cost me over £30 (they've now refunded these calls) to get them to sort out the mess up.
meherenow
27 Feb 171#13
Word of warning, next to no chance of getting this - you need to add the laptop to your account on BNPL 12 month etc.
What they do though is add the WHOLE interest on - which will at least double the price - so if they don't give you a £2000 credit limit then you are going to be refused the order.
edit: obviously you are only charged the deferred interest if you do not pay the original amount within the interest free period, but they DO add it on to your account and your credit limit is decreased by the whole amount including interest.
bluep
27 Feb 171#14
As I explained, got to have broadly a £1100 credit limit or be prepared to phone up and pay the difference between that and your credit limit up front to access the 20% otherwise it's 10% (and no interest gets added so just go to make sure the 90% is within your credit limit)
meherenow to bluep
27 Feb 17#16
It will be more like £2000 though - they will take the base price and add the interest onto that - the 20% off doesn't come into play immediately.
"We'll automatically credit 20% of the computer price back to your account by 11th April 2017. We’ll email you when we have applied the credit to your account."
I also got a £750 credit limit when I joined a few weeks ago (this would seem to be the norm) - had to just buy what I wanted straight out, however they did give me the 10% back on my initial order even though I didn't add it to the account and paid outright.

28 Feb 17#21
That's not right - its £1192 as I did the actual order on my account over 104 weeks but it wouldn't let me complete. The az202na at £663 equated to £1192 and the az002na at £799 came out at around £1440 from memory. It's because from 0-52 weeks there's no interest then it adds interest from 52-104.
So you'd get £829 on your account (with potential interest of £363 blocking out your credit limit) the next month or so they'd credit 20% bringing it down to £663. You can then pay any time up to the 12 month mark and avoid any interest charge at all.
Not sure why you are het up about this point - I explained it all in thee deal post - how it works and the interest taking up your credit limit.
Very gave me a £3k limit when I opened an account with them, Littlewoods only £750...luck of the draw.
meherenow
28 Feb 171#22
No, I'm getting het up because you are wrong.
You only get the 20% discount if you take the 12 months BNPL.
When you do that you do not get to choose the interest free 52 week option.
You must choose a weekly payment plan (to pay when the 12 month BNPL ends) of 104 weeks (total payable £1,727.86) or 156 weeks (total payable £2,022.00).
So you must have a credit limit of at least those figures - yes when the 20% is eventually taken off then this total will drop.
I know this because I already tried this on another laptop a few weeks ago and also because I just did a dummy run on my account with this deal!
Maybe you should check your facts out before berating people for doing your sums for you and posting a deal that not many will get.
Littlewoods is the chav company of Shop Direct, that's why most (not all) of the prices are higher compared to Very - I too have a high credit limit with Very but no doubt because they have the same parent company then a second account will yield a lower credit limit.
So my original post stands - not many people will be able to take advantage of this deal - they would need to have a c. £2000 credit limit or get more than what seems the standard initial £750 to even get the 10% (or blag the discount when paying the difference upfront).
You are mistaking "interest free" for "interest deferred" because when the 12 months BNPL is up and you revert to weekly payments (if you are stupid enough not to have paid it off) then the interest for that 12 months period is added on - that's why the total repayment is so large.
The reason they offer this deal is to suck you into the high interest low weekly payment scheme after the 12 months deferred payment is up.
It says my APR is a whopping 44.9% so maybe that's not the same for everyone but it definitely makes this deal £1727.86 over the 104 week, not the £1100 you state...
"20% account credit back in April if you buy a computer over £349 and select to buy now pay later (over 104 weeks) - they charge interest from 52-104 weeks as the first year is free but you can pay off in full at any time before then and avoid any interest charges. You can only select this option if you have enough account credit limit to do so (has to be over £1100 limit as they add the potential interest on when calculating if to let you order)."
That's just wrong and misleading, sorry - the first year is NOT technically free.
edit: I see you have changed your original post, but what I quote above was your wrong info before you secretly admitted your mistake...
You are welcome by the way

bluep
28 Feb 172#24
I can see what you are saying meherenow however:
The BNPL offer clearly says if you repay within the payment free period you avoid interest.
When I do a dummy order at 104 weeks it comes out at £1192.
I spoke to Customer Services and they confirmed if you repay in the first 12 months then no interest is charged at all. Obviously if you don't pay it all off in that period, then you revert onto their repayment plan with punitive interest. This is a deal for those willing to work the system and make sure they pay in full.
Fair enough if I didn't explain it in the clearest way - if you play the system right you get almost all of the first 12 months interest free and can walk away rather than Littlewoods only charging interest in the second year. It's interest free if you repay in the first 12 months, interest deferred if you don't. Still not sure how you get to £1727 though.
I didn't post the deal as - wow great 104 week payment plan! It was - wow great price, there's a few options you have to jump through but if you do it right works out better price if you are just buying outright.
As for the £750 credit limit and 10% discount, I got that credit limit, the 10% code brought the £829 down to £749 and I ordered on 52 weeks interest free so not sure again why you think people won't be able to get that deal?
Not wanting to argue - we are all here to find the best deals for people so if you feel I've explained something wrong then let's be nice about it and all get on. These companies revel in making things as complex as possible.
meherenow to bluep
28 Feb 171#30
Sorry to keep barking on about this, but what you haven't done there is press the button that activates the 12 month BNPL that is REQUIRED to get the 20% off!
You are correct in your price for the 104 week terms - but that is to pay it off OVER 104 weeks, not to defer payment using BNPL 12 months which YOU NEED TO TAKE to get the 20% off...
Try it again and you will see - you have to select the BNPL option, then you will see the two figures I quoted above for 104 weeks or 156 weeks.
And yes, it is deliberately complicated because then they can rip more people off, buying a laptop and paying more than double for it in the end up.
I'm just trying to make people aware that your initial figures were wrong (and anyway, it does state the "typical" credit limit is £750 so again, this 20% "deal" will just not be available to 99% of viewers to this thread).

But.... I'd like it to run triple screens too when I'm not VR'ing for work.
EDIT: I wouldn't use Very ever again. I pre-ordered the DJI Mavic with them in November last year, many delivery dates passed with no sign of it. I cancelled the order in January and closed the account. Last I heard they cancelled everyone's pre-order for it at the end of January.

On the surface I agree this does look like a great deal, however I bought one of these "Omen" laptops in Jan this year and after just a week I had to return it. The build quality was really poor but the main issue was a lack of driver support. The laptop I bought had a 1070 card built in but it would not update using Nvidias website or drivers. HP said this was due to it being a 1070 "Type" gpu and not a true fully fledged 1070. As a consequence Battlefield ! would not play and I had other driver related issues.
Point to add also, the service I received from HP was fantastic on the sale side but I had to wait nearly a month for the refund to show on my account!

Strange, the Omen 17 I have (the new one with the gen 7 intel chip) has the 1070 and the very first thing I did was download and install the latest driver straight from the Nvidia website. It went in no problem - I did download the mobile driver right enough and GeForce experience gives me options for being on mains or on battery. The cards are different from their desktop equivalents, but there is less of a gulf compared with the old "M" chips from Nvidia.
Anyway, main prob with this (my Omen 17 at least) is overheating - the Intel chip that is, not the gfx card - it get so hot that thermal throttling comes into play.
No matter, I just set the max performance at 99% so the turbo boost clock doesn't kick in and try to melt my cheap plastic notebook!
Doesn't bother me, the 1070 is more than capable even with the i7 @ 2.8Ghz - a similar gaming laptop would have set me back another £500+ so I'd rather take the saving! I knew I was buying something where corners have been cut to reach the price so will invest in a cooling pad as I use this mostly as a desktop replacement anyway. Might also crank it open and get a new layer of thermal paste on there for good measure.

Quite right should elaborate although it is correct info it's not too bad a performer it'll play all your games at medium to high settings at a reasonable frame rate but as it's an entry level card for its generation of new pascal architecture for a bit more get the 1050m or 1050m top notch for more gaming level performance for the price though it's quite a good laptop just check on forums for reliability always look for the 2nd digit or third digit in the 10 series the higher the better and more powerful

Isn't the 1050M an underpowered version of the 1050 aimed for laptop use? I'm not very clued up on PC gaming so only just learning. Looking for a laptop that will run modern games at mid-high so I can game whilst on the go. I was under the impression something like this would fit the bill.
The laptop 1050 shares identical performance with the desktop version.
This places the 1050 approx the same performance as the last generation GTX 960 desktop card. So yes, this can play everything on medium to high at 1080p

A few weeks back, I posted up a similar 15" laptop from PC Specialist but with a 4GB1050 Ti GPU; not the 1050.
I see that they've just dropped the price a bit from £918 to £898. I also read in another HUKD thread that if you use the code 'TRAIN' when checking out, it drops another £15 off the price. Not sure if this code is still valid but if it is, it drops the laptop price to £883.
Don't want to knock the Omen deal. It's good, but if you're more drawn towards the 1050 Ti, the the PC Specialist Optimus VIII looks interesting.
PS, here's a guy saying you CAN do VR with the 1050 Ti GPU. Interesting...
where can you find reviews of those laptops though? seen quite a few posts about issues with their displays

If you follow my original thread and go to the Optimus VIII page, you will see a tab for 'Reviews'. These are reports from customers who've bought this machine. There's more info if you sign up and browse the forums.
I couldn't find any 'normal' reviews of the Optimus VIII but if you Google Clevo N580 (the name if the generic laptop), you can gleen some stuff (Sager pops up).
Regarding screen quality in general, who doesn't have issues today? The equivalent laptops from Dell & MSI have been panned for using crappy TN screens. At least this one had a proper IPS panel.

By significant I mean obvious on a black background as if you happened to be watching a film say, or simply pulled up paint filled it in black and went full screen. It becomes far less obvious on lighter backgrounds or when simply interacting with Windows in general.

Since the release of the Nvidia 10xx series Pascal chips, you're out of date with that comment. With the Nvidia 900 series, a 9xxM "mobile" chip was much slower than the 9xx desktop equivalent. With the 10xx series, there isn't a significant slowdown on mobile devices. What game can't you play on a laptop with a GTX 1070 or 1080? Actually, if you aren't going 4K, even a GTX 1050 isn't all that restrictive.

Thanks! I'm in two minds about returning it as like you say when brightness is reduced it's not so obvious and it only really seems to come into play with big black borders (films) not games and the like. I had to fiddle with the sound settings to get something half way decent out of the speakers as by default they're terrible. Aside from those two points (so far) I really quite like the laptop.
I came across a thread which accurately depicts what I'm talking about for anyone considering this laptop in the future:
Must be a common design flaw on this model, along with the poorly placed bright power LED!

Really disappointed with mine - managed to get it for work where I've recently started and the first laptop they gave me bailed in a week. The screen is poor, especially for an IPS and it flexes so much I worry that it just isn't portable (enough) - when I say flex, I'm not just talking about the screen, the chassis moves a LOT with any pressure at all. Last straw for me is the touchpad, just can't seem to get on with HP pads (must be me) but I literally hate it  Oh well

This is now £770.96 direct from HP with e-voucher (CQ217HPAF23) plus you can then claim a free Xbox Elite controller after 30 days.
I'd still rather have the money off assuming Littlewoods stay true to their cashback promotion but not bad for a deal direct from the manufacturer!

just picked his model up from very for £675, originally 750 before 10% bnpl discount for new customer. If I actually get the elite controller and sell it I should get to under £600
Opening post
£663

I didn't get charged a delivery charge.
In the market for a new laptop and have my eye on the 15-ax206na (similar specs but has an i7 and 4gb 1050ti). Only available direct from HP for £999 so far so waiting for it to become available from other retailers and see what deals they can offer first.
Wanted to explain the option though to others who would want to play around with the discount options and do that.
These things are unfortunately fingerprint magnets. I'd love one but that one issue would annoy me so much.
You are welcome by the way
The BNPL offer clearly says if you repay within the payment free period you avoid interest.
Good luck to those that order.

Got 10% off it, down to £1350 - a bargain and works a treat.
I'd agree though, the spec on this laptop does not leave much room for games running that well.
Does anyone know who display on these compare to those at PC specialist.
cant see reviews for this gens
only 60% sRGB of the one i saw
tbh i dont see the brightness as a massive issue though
anything said about the contrast, colour range and accuracy?
edit: stuey? seems a bit of a rambling idiot 'to be honest with you' :stuck_out_tongue:
Point to add also, the service I received from HP was fantastic on the sale side but I had to wait nearly a month for the refund to show on my account!
Got one for my brother at Christmas from John Lewis and we had to take it back because of it.
What would you propose is a better performer for the money?
The laptop 1050 shares identical performance with the desktop version.
This places the 1050 approx the same performance as the last generation GTX 960 desktop card. So yes, this can play everything on medium to high at 1080p
A Quad core i5 CPU, a 1050 GPU and 8gb of ram is still a gaming laptop as it should play most DX11 and below games at medium to high settings and still get a playable 30 fps+.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/laptop-15-nvidia-1050-ti-918-from-pc-specialist-2610311?p=30131388
Interesting...
https://youtu.be/G-k1LzjPIhY
(in general not that specific model)
If you follow my original thread and go to the Optimus VIII page, you will see a tab for 'Reviews'. These are reports from customers who've bought this machine. There's more info if you sign up and browse the forums.
I couldn't find any 'normal' reviews of the Optimus VIII but if you Google Clevo N580 (the name if the generic laptop), you can gleen some stuff (Sager pops up).
Regarding screen quality in general, who doesn't have issues today? The equivalent laptops from Dell & MSI have been panned for using crappy TN screens. At least this one had a proper IPS panel.
perhaps i woke up a google idiot today but i cant find any reviews to clevo n580 nor any links to sager
a ips screen isn't automatically better than a TN screen - its case by case
Perhaps the OP would be kind enough in the future to mention the end date of a time limited deal in his posts - it was mentioned quite prominently on the retailers website.
And get his facts right on what the deal actually entails.
I came across a thread which accurately depicts what I'm talking about for anyone considering this laptop in the future:
Thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/5cfqry/am_i_being_too_critical_backlight_bleed/
Pics: http://imgur.com/a/UyRwm
Must be a common design flaw on this model, along with the poorly placed bright power LED!
I'd still rather have the money off assuming Littlewoods stay true to their cashback promotion but not bad for a deal direct from the manufacturer!
