Bought this the other day after my old Stihl seized up and died. It has been cheaper on its own, £34.99, recently, but until the 5th March you can buy a 'handy' log saw horse, spare chain and oil for an extra £20, a discount of around £19 for the extra bits. Oh and read the manual and use proper safety kit. Ta...

Purchased one of these about a year ago and have used it at least once a month for log cutting and tree pruning. My mate has a petrol chainsaw and yes it is more powerful but this is able to do nearly everything his can but is much lighter and less expensive. I've never had to renew or sharpen the chain ,highly recommended, even though the saw on its own has been cheaper

Kids Toy. Get one of these if you really want to cut wood. Much safer with the guards all around.

Should have explained it better. It's always been £49.99 but you can then get the discount on the accessories.

I have an electric Stihl, it's very powerful, I got it for more construction jobs and inside log cutting, if you want lots of noise and fumes then go with petrol.

I've had one of these for a couple of years. In addition to my petrol one. Great for cutting my logs to my wood burner size after I've scavenged them.

We have one and it's great. Auto instant cut out means the chain blade immediately stops turning when you release the button, so quite hard to amputate a whole limb by accident. Whilst you won't be felling a mighty oak, it will be fine with most conifers and large shrubs. We cleared our garden with it.
You need to buy oil at the same time - about £3 - as it doesn't come with oil.

OP in the interests of saving the maximum amount, you should sell the old Stihl on Ebay where they seem to fetch ridiculous money. Always someone who thinks they can fix something for next to nothing when in reality it's beyond saving!
Many small petrol engines get carburettor problems if petrol is left in them for any length of time, Electric motors don't suffer this, however there are times when carting a mains lead to a tree just isn't practical! Horses for courses.

Ok cheers I'll try that. I don't go around cutting trees down so I never really needed a petrol one. I do however have quite a bit of wood from the neighbour's trees which were cut down a few years ago. I bought the Stihl from the tree loppers - I mean surgeons- and it was old then!

I've often thought an electric chainsaw will be quite handy for home defence, you know just on the shelf in your bedroom, probably not ideal if you are prone to sleepwalking and stuff though.

I had to chop down a large confier / trim some branches I went with a Titan TTB533RSP 750W Reciprocating Saw, felt much safer using it and was cheaper .
If your confident with chainsaws go for it but honestly for me reciprocating saw was just as good. Trimming logs after they've been chopped off probably no good for but for general trimming of large branches its great.
