Ok, sorry dear making such a drastic and life changing error
I am not someone who buys stuff for the sake of it - we have both an all-in one printer and also a wired mono laser printer already and have been considering buying a wireless coloured laser printer for a while due to how much ink we go through so I jumped on this deal when I saw it. It just didn't even occur to me and my husband that it might be so huge or of course I would have checked the weight. The dimensions would be ok for where it was intended to go but it is too heavy.
Thought I may as well explain seeing as you've jumped on me for no reason, did also say I MIGHT send it back - still trying to decide if we can fit it next to the desk instead of on top.
Hope you've managed to calm down and can go on with the rest of your day

It's people like you who push prices up for the rest of us by wasting retailer's time and money. Perhaps next time you should look at the item's dimensions BEFORE you buy it?

Looks like a good deal.
It's pretty tall though, so if you've got it under a shelf or similar then make sure you've got room to open the top to use the flatbed scanner.

Any idea on how expensive the toners might be? Or if they're refillable?
Thoughtful to BagABargain78
7 Feb 172#21
Toners are refillable, but the key to this printer is not believing it when it tell you they are empty! It can do this when the cartridges are half full! Keep resetting them until they really do expire and then you can refill them with kits bought from the net, or buy compatibles. There are no chips on them, just a shaped wheel which makes them an ideal cartridge for refilling.

This is a ridiculously cheap price. I own the older model, Brother DCP-9020CDW, which amazon still sell for £185. These printers are large, but they're great quality. Toners can be bought cheaply if you get non-originals (no difference in quality). Can scan wirelessly to computer or to the cloud (google drive etc). I've never looked back. Changed my life really. At this price, let it change yours too.
what about the 600dpi? compared to 1200dpi with inkjet printers...any thoughts?
jasee to weaseled
7 Feb 171#16
Yes  It's ok for coloured letterheads etc, solid blocks of colour but not ok for realistic photos. Also because of the nature of toner, using glossy paper doesn't give an increase in the range of tones

dab radio instead of cash off now?
mcknej01
7 Feb 171#14
Just bought, as "sowotdis" says, free portable usb charged DAB Radio / MP3 (CF Card) player now instead of the £15 off. My purchased tracked on HUKD with 8.5% off (£16.30), hence final price for me is £116.50 (assuming the £100 cashback comes in as expected). The free radio thing being icing on cake (wanted one of those anyway).

Good luck with Viking.
I tried to get a HL-L8250CDN off them last year when it was a really good price. Didn't turn up after weeks, then they said no stock, I think they just have terrible (or clever!) stock and price management systems. Took ages to get a refund too.

I bought the same printer at the same deal, apart from an initial mess up where I couldn't get the discount if I didn't sign up for an account I had a smooth experience. Ordered, turned up within some reasonable time (idk, 5 working days?) and that was that. Cashback was quick to process too.
Tempted by this one since a scanner would be useful but we're fine with the print-only brother for now.

Yeah, they're shockingly bad when I had to deal with them before.
Bought a Brother printer and when faced with a fault with 2/3 months I contacted them. They wanted me to package it up and arrange collection, so I did. Wait at home all day. No courier came. Rang them, they said they would collect the day after. Waited at home all day again, nothing. After contacting them again they admitted that they never arranged for a courier to collect and they had changed their mind  The rest would make an interesting story but I'll save the time.....

Not so good now. Ordered yesterday afternoon, and they have no idea at all when it will be delivered. Certainly not today, probably not tomorrow either, and likely to be several days. What's particularly annoying is that they haven't a clue when it will be - not within their control at all, they say. I suppose this is to be expected from Viking, and I'm relying on S75 to handle any problems with the printer should they arise.

What's the status on your printer? Mine says 'order with carrier' which I'm guessing really means the orders with Brother, thought it might have meant it's with the delivery company but it's not arrived, so unlikely. Can't be bothered going on chat to them after last time.
Newbold
10 Feb 17#86
Same here - and it's been showing 'Order with Carrier' (a downright lie!) since the order went in on Wednesday afternoon. Spoke to Viking, who were utterly useless and had no idea at all when it would be delivered, just saying 5 working days (which is 7 days in reality). They said they'd call back with more information but that hasn't happened.
Viking are a useless shower, hence the comment about S75. Brother are sending out the orders, but they won't give any further details about individual orders. Just wait and see, I suppose. And remember never to use Viking again.

So I just bought this, and to be honest, not very happy.
When printing anything with a hyperlink in it or any text in colour then the text is blurry.
The duplexer prints upside down on the other side. So if you turn the page over, the text on the other side will be upside down !?!?
Edit: ok found out the upside down fix... you have to select which edge to flip on. But if you just hit double sided/2 sided it will print upside down on the other side by default. text and images are still blurry though, very poor quality printout for a laser. Black text is fine, just colour text/images

A printer has so many moving parts, things can go wrong which is why warranty becomes crucial. If you are looking for alternatives, have a look at HP M477fdw. The initial outlay is slightly higher at £190 (after the £100 cashback), but you also get a THREE year warranty from HP. The M477fdw is smaller with better print resolution and has great reviews.

13 Feb 171#116
First thing to do is when you get your out of toner message is add a reset gear, then put back in. You'll get around 3000-4000 pages out of it by doing that a few times. The in box starter toners are exactly the same as a full toner, but without the reset gears.
Next, you can either refill the carts (approx £50-60 for a full colour set), or buy cheap carts. I haven't tested much, only bought one (a black for £12.50 delivered on Ebay) but it worked fine and has been for over 2500 pages.

13 Feb 17#117
That's very interesting - had no idea. Need to do a bit of research on that to find out where to get the kit and what to do with it. Thanks!

13 Feb 17#118
This printer uses same cartridges as the HL-L8250CDN I think, and there is a bit of a thread on that one.
Quick place to start is to look at this site which sells black refill + 4 gears as a kit. I'm sure you can probably now get this kit somewhere else cheaper now, but at the time there wasn't much around, and it's well thought out anyway. They also have some good videos to explain the process:
Edit: I should have added, another option instead of the refill kit is to buy some compatible cartridges as they have the reset gear on, take the gear off first and use it on your starter cartridges, then put back in when you want to use the compatibles

You'll need to get a full invoice from Viking, and that (for some reason) can't be produced until a few days after the purchase. They may email them out automatically, but my guess is you'll need to ask for it. Viking are a useless shower. Watch out for the claim deadline.

Mine arrived yesterday, 15th, ordered Friday 10th, so no great wait. Freebies from Viking arrived on the Monday. Easy set-up, no issues, apart from, I did set up on the Company laptop as well as my domestic PC. The VPN caused issues on the laptop, turned it off, no problem. VPN on laptop does stop me printing domestically. Bit of a beast for home, but it is for business use.
Excellent printer, no issues. Thanks OP. Already heated.

The claim form very clearly states 'invoice'. I'm waiting to get the actual invoice from Viking in case they stick to the letter of the T&C and turn down claims without invoices.

Anyone had invoice yet from Viking?

Yes - but it took some time to prise it out of them. In view of the 28 day time limit I'd be inclined to phone them or chat with them to get it created and emailed manually. Their systems are appalling, they don't deal promptly with emails, and frankly it's a company I'd never ever use again.
I made some comment about using S75 Consumer Credit Act earlier, and it doesn't look too good for Office Depot/Viking as things stand:
Opening post
and duplex printer. £114.80 after £100 cashback and £15 viking discount on website on £150 spend till 10th February plus topcashback
Print at up to 28 pages per minute in mono or colour (quite impressive)
250 sheet paper tray is useful
- jasee
The £15 off code is: PLA-COUP15

It's pretty tall though, so if you've got it under a shelf or similar then make sure you've got room to open the top to use the flatbed scanner.
You forgot to include VAT so I've edited to reflect the actual price
I tried to get a HL-L8250CDN off them last year when it was a really good price. Didn't turn up after weeks, then they said no stock, I think they just have terrible (or clever!) stock and price management systems. Took ages to get a refund too.
Tempted by this one since a scanner would be useful but we're fine with the print-only brother for now.
It's a free 7 inch tablet..... old spec, but free.

Price increased to £232.80
expired.
I am split between the idea of a ADF come with a printer or a professional scanner cost around £350.

Also got quidco, tracked full amount. Still not sure how to claim cash back need to look into that
Attention:
9356: Voucher code Q7A-VIKINGRT2 is not valid.
just wondering as I'd prefer to order from Amazon really
code has been expired long.
Hubby took it in whilst I was out - I would have refused delivery.
Gonna have to send ours back, I think - am really hoping Viking do free returns!

I only added the tablet, my bad.
I do not want to go through the trouble of return and reordering again. I will just forget about the radio mp3 then. I do not need it anyway.
yes, it is around 32kg. The size and weight is ok for me. I just hope the ADF and scan is good enough so I can actually save the money to buy a professional scanner. The scanner can scan duplex which is what I want.
It will partially offset the higher price 232.80 I am purchasing at.
Can you share the code you used to get the £15?
Also, there's a 12v/230v Portable thermo electric 24 Litre hot or cool box to be had for free in addition to the £15 discount, here:
http://www.viking-direct.co.uk/a/pb/Cooling-Box-24-Litre-Blue/id=9473315&pr=Q22/
For Electrical items marked Shipped Factory Direct, please allow up to 5-7 working days for delivery*
That's an incredibly slow delivery time - potentially 11 days!
Mine arrived today with radio and tablet free gifts. Very impressed so far.
Found the warranty card for the Bother mono laser MFC it is replacing, noticed it has been powered up ready to receive faxes 24/7 for 13 years.
I ordered monday night arrived Wednesday morning
ordered with £15 code and tablet, cannot check out with the cool box, always say my basket short of £6.
Printer was delivered by DPD, cooling box by 'Office Supplies' van.
I've already claimed the cashback, however, had no email confirmation so far. I'll wait one week and if nothing happen, I'll check it again.
Happy Chappy
got my free gifts delivered next day now just waiting for printer maybe next few days
It's an effort for me to slide the box across the floor I don't know how the driver managed it on his own!
I've got an invoice that says net price of printer £0.00
It looks like they've canceled the order...or am I getting my wires crossed..?
I paid on credit card, shows £232 on invoice and CC statement, try online chat, they're a bit useless but they might be able to tell you what's up. Knowing viking they'll probably deliver after the cashback's finished anyway
Viking are a useless shower, hence the comment about S75. Brother are sending out the orders, but they won't give any further details about individual orders. Just wait and see, I suppose. And remember never to use Viking again.
9 feb 12pm got free gifts by office depot van
10 feb 10am got printer by dpd
I wouldn't expect to see any cash back if you haven't faxed or posted proof of purchase.
I called brother up they confirmed and gave me an email address to send the Viking invoice to along with serial number after registration
Please check the terms and conditions on the brother cash back page
double check with brother
attach copy of your invoice and serial number
maybe delay dependent on location
Actually, don't - it'll cost you, and Viking (Office Depot) is using this premium rate number unlawfully, which gives you a good idea of the sort of company it is.
Use 0800 424444 instead - the one they don't want you to use.
Crap. Going back.
Here is an example, printed on best quality...
I can see a tiny bit of yellow fringing.
Now..........given that a set of original Brother replacements costs around £240, who's going to test out some compatibles?
Next, you can either refill the carts (approx £50-60 for a full colour set), or buy cheap carts. I haven't tested much, only bought one (a black for £12.50 delivered on Ebay) but it worked fine and has been for over 2500 pages.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/networked-duplex-brother-hl-l8250cdn-colour-laser-printer-91-17-after-cashback-191-2110623
Quick place to start is to look at this site which sells black refill + 4 gears as a kit. I'm sure you can probably now get this kit somewhere else cheaper now, but at the time there wasn't much around, and it's well thought out anyway. They also have some good videos to explain the process:
http://www.urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL8650KITB&price=17.50&description=Black+starter+kit+(everything+you+need+for+first+refill)&engine=BR8650&printer=MFC-L8650cdw%2c+L8850cdw&id=2735&weight=235
Enjoy the reading ;-)
Edit: I should have added, another option instead of the refill kit is to buy some compatible cartridges as they have the reset gear on, take the gear off first and use it on your starter cartridges, then put back in when you want to use the compatibles
I always wanted to have a good colour AIO laser printer, finally i have one now....
The ix500 is highly reviewed and is the one I have been keeping an eye on.
It cost £330/350 now.
Cartridge for the HP, even Compatible ones are costly.
I also sent a scan of the delivery note attached to the box, made using the scanner that conveniently came attached to the printer that the box once contained.
I received confirmation that my cashback had been successfully processed the next day.
[email protected]
attach copy of your invoice and serial number
update: Received my cashback confirmation email, very efficient!
Faxed the receipt to Brother this morning. (Viking told me that it will only give me the actual invoice on 20/02/2017).
Few hours later, Brother email me that cashback is authorised, and will reach my bank account next Wednesday.
Good work! Brother. So efficient!
I faxed over the receipt, already approved, and will receive the £100 next week.
I called Viking, Viking told me to wait until 20/02/2017 for the invoice. I think the invoice is generated automatically.
I request the invoice from the person now, they do not care, they do not want to do it.
Excellent printer, no issues. Thanks OP. Already heated.
