I think we are all right in our own ways - indeed I think HerWorseHalf is dead right when he says that any tool is better than no tool (or perhaps trying to use a Leatherman knife). I take Julieallen's point about surplus imperial sockets and spanners as well (unless you happen to be fixing a Suffolk Punch lawnmower of course!).

I sort of agree with HerWorseHalf. For the price you get a lot of tools for the money, but I learnt years ago that doesn't mean they are good value. I would prefer to spend a fiver or so from ebay for a half decent ratchet, well by half decent I mean better than this, then buy a few sockets that are common and you might need to use for a breakdown or light repairs. I mean, if your car is metric then why would you want 14 imperial sockets?
Pliers are £1 in poundland, as are a set of screwdriver bits, which are as good (or bad depending on which way you look at it) as these, and I imagine most people already have pliers anyway.
Anyway not wanting to argue, just giving my point of view :smiley:

My opinion is based on earning my living using tools for more than 30 years, so far more than prejudice. I have owned and used such tools, and am well aware of the quality, or lack thereof. Yes, they're very cheap, and sometimes any tool is better than no tool, and if you're happy with that level of quality, great. I'm not telling you or anyone else what to do.

My view is substantiated by owning and using this kit (see the note about having it as an emergency outfit in my old Saab above), yours is based on ... nothing except prejudice, but this is not worth arguing about. We will have to agree to disagree.

You'll have noticed that I didn't comment on the value, just stated that they were rubbish, which they are. If someone is aware of this, and decides to purchase anyway, that's up to them. The trouble is that most people aren't aware of the limitations of such tools, and easily push them past their limits, at which point they can bend, break, damage what you're using them on, and sometimes the user as well.

I also didn't advocate anything, and am certainly not in awe of the Snap-On label, but if anyone asked for a recommendation for a cheap tool set I would suggest a basic socket set, spanner set and pliers from Lidl for example, which would come to around £25. Yes, it's more, but would cover a greater range of sizes and be a significant increase in quality.

But as they say, you pays your money and you takes your choice...

This is sensible, and (again with respect) HerWorseHalf's comment was unsubstantiated and... just plain silly. I don't know why, but whenever there are discussions about tools on HUKD someone always says whatever is being discussed is rubbish, and advocates something else costing 8 times as much (which will probably be better, but many readers may not need better).
As long as buyers understand they are getting a lower end tool kit at an outstanding price, and don't expect Snap-On (or even Halfords professional) quality (and who would for £9?) they will not be disappointed.

Looks like a nice wholesome set with most things you would need. Wonder what the quality of the bits are like?

At £8.99, what do you expect snap-on? The pliers are around £2 for a cheap pair. So when you add in all the rest of the tools, its not a bad price for the occasional non-pro use.

These will be lower quality tools, but perfectly adequate for small jobs around the house, garage, car or bike and a bargain at this price (normally just a 3/8" ratchet driver alone would cost more than this - although it might be a little bit better at that price).
There will be lots of commentators saying this is rubbish to follow, but they will be wrong as long as one has reasonable expectations of this kit.
I have voted hot, this is a bargain for a low-end tool kit.

Argos post reviews in order of best first - scroll to the end to see the poorer ones. Looks like it's what you might expect for such a low price.
